I don't think it has anything to do with mollycoddling. Love is about empathy and compassion. Dev was pushing away Sona in that scene but if Sona put herself in his shoes she can understand why. It sucks for her but I think its really unfair to put a guilt trip on him when he's already suffering from so much guilt.
I don't really see how Dev is being unreasonable? He's making a decision that sucks for both of them. And he's probably going to suffer the consequences more than she is. But its not like he's doing it happily. He's doing what he thinks is right for his mother.
The problem is not with the decision itself. it is the way he did it. he took a unilateral decision.
if he had raised all his concerns and discussed all that he found out from Mamaji, Sona would have suggested some thing.
They could have argued what risk they can take and what they can't. They could have mutually made the decision to separate instead of how dev did it.
Sona still loves dev and Dev deserves all the pain he is going through - just because he cant discuss and make a decision amicable. He decided to push his only friend away.
If they have parted ways for ishwaris happiness with mutual decision, Sona would still have remained in Devs life as a friend.
But, Dev did not leave that chance. At this point, i do not believe there is any thing Sona could or should do.
What ever redemption is needed should be on Devs side. He first needs to believe that Sona really thinks of his mom and her mom and she would never do anything that would hurt ishwari.
Secondly he needs to respect that she is equal-equal in this relationship and he can not take unilateral impulsive decisions.
