My bro was/is SRK die hard fan and he was sooo disappointed at the ending of this movie. He cried inconsolably Coz he was expecting a better ending 😆
When it flopped, I teased him to no end ( being Sallu fan) 🤣
Music is still soulful and it's a masterpiece .

Shah Rukh Khan in an unconventional role

He isn't a chocolate hero romancing the heroine but a simple reporter who has fallen for the wrong woman. He's just another middle class man out of his depth in a situation not of his own making and struggling to keep himself afloat.

SRK-Manisha chemistry

Mani Ratnam has this ability to draw out the best from his actors and he also know how to elicit passion. Manisha Koirala might be a terrorist in the film and wary of relationships because of her past but there was definite attraction shown between the two and Ratnam exploited it to brilliant effect.

Preity Zinta's spunky debut

You were taken aback and then couldn't stop grinning when Preity asks SRK, are you a virgin? Our heroines are supposed to be coy on such subjects but Preity was anything but that and stole out hearts through her spirited performance.

The chaiyya chaiyya song

There have been songs picturised on trains before but Ratnam's vision was extraordinary. The cinematography, choreography and production values all came together to create a visually appealing song that remains as fresh today as it was then. And who can forget the image of Malaika Arora gyrating to the beat? The energy displayed by her and SRK was invigorating indeed.

AR Rahman's music

Be it Chaiyya chaiyya, Jiya jale, Dis se re, E ajnabi or even Satrangi re, the songs remain rooted to our memory. Lyricist Gulzar's imagery found a perfect match in Rahman's compositions, making the tunes a layered tapestry full of depth and meaning. We can listen to them on loop the whole day and not get bored.

love the songs. but i didnt like the film that much. SRK was so charming and dreamy in that one. The chemistry between SRK -Manisha was so damn good. But sadly, the movie just didnt much connect with me in the 2nd half. The beginning was nice.

Dil Se: 10 Lesser Known Facts About SRK- Manisha Koirala's Classic Love Story

News18.com

First published: August 21, 2016, 7:37 AM IST | Updated: Yesterday

It has been 17 years since Mani Ratnam's romantic-thriller released. 'Dil Se' starring Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala had a backdrop of terrorism and insurgency, beautifully weaved into a tragic love story. The intense political agenda of the film, the love story and the fact that it coincided with the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations, became a major factor for its success.

After Roja and Bombay, Dil Se completed the trilogy of Mani Ratnam's terror-drama. Here are 10 facts you probably did not know about the critically acclaimed movie.

1) Mani Ratnam had the inspiration for the movie from a Sufi song called Thayya Thayya (which is available in the soundtracks.) The two lovers are said to share the relation of God and devotee.

2)Dil Se is said to be a journey through the 7 shades of love that are defined in ancient Arabic literature. Those shades are defined as attraction, infatuation, love, reverence, worship, obsession, and death. The character played by Shahrukh Khan passes through each shade during the course of the film.

3) The film's first song, Chal Chaiyya Chaiyya, is also the opening song of the Hollywood movie Inside Man starring Denzel Washington and Clive Owen.

4) Shah Rukh Khan did not use a safety harness while the filming the sequence aboard the moving train for the song Chal Chaiyya Chaiyya.

5) For the song Jiya Jale, Jaan Chale singer Lata Mangeshkar had some problem singing in the higher octaves due to her age, so composer AR Rahman kept her voice as low as possible.

6) Kajol was the first choice for Manisha's role but she refused the role due to date issues.

7) Some of the parade scenes were shot during the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of India's independence.

8) The film was previously titled Ladakh - Ek Prem Kahani.

9) Partho Gosh was directing a film titled Chaiyan Chaiyan with Fardeen Khan and Preity Zinta that he ended up shelving.

10) Shilpa Shirodkar was signed for the Chaiya Chaiya song with Shahrukh Khan. Mani Ratnam was unhappy with Shilpa's weight problem and dropped her from the song.
