The
Aggrieved Mother

The whole country danced in a celebratory mood as the brave militants had secured victory for the country in the battle. While some threw derogatory comments about the other side, some silently shed tears eying the dead bodies of their family members who had laid their lives down for securing the dignity and integrity of the nation. They had been successful in protecting every civilian of the country but in the process they had forgotten about their own safety.

A mother wondered eying at her child wrapped in the national flag if the loss of a child varies across the border. The wife of a brave officer stared at the person who had promised to stay beside her for the coming seven lives but had failed to keep his promise and questioned if the pain of losing one's love would vary across the border. The one orphaned due to the war questioned if losing a parent would feel different across the boundaries, the God hadn't, but they had created.

All the fight for a land which wouldn't let them in peace. All the violence for a boundary we had created ourselves. But in actuality is this land ours? This land has neither been inherited from our ancestors and is neither borrowed from our descendants. It has been gifted to us to be used wisely, to make life easier not tougher. But what do we do with it?

We drench the land with blood, fighting for it. While people living on it celebrate their triumph or lament their defeat, the Mother Earth grieves for the children it had to lose due to war she caused between her own children.

Neither does the color of blood vary, nor does the pain one experiences during the loss of someone close varies but due to the effect of these boundaries, one side of the battle becomes wrong and the other becomes right. Neither does the patriotic spirit in the warriors vary, nor does their bravery but unfortunately while one side becomes the heroic' side, the other turns into the villainous' side.

The real triumph is not when we win a war. The real victory is when we can stop a war, stop the bloodshed associated with it and stop the pain of numerous families.

Happy Independence Day to All of you! Swatantrata Diwas Ki Dher Saari Shubh Kamnyein!
