Manik's pov
"What the hell does she think of herself?" Naina's voice was filled with anger. I observed her quickly. I have never seen her like this before. But I was confused, what she is talking about.
"I am sorry princess from Alya's side. It's just..." Cabir paused for a while before giving any reason "...they don't know you properly. Really sorry princess!"
So this is all about what Alya said and not me. Good for once at least!!
"No Cabir, then also no one and I mean it no one has the right to talk to Nandini like that. I will not tolerate it." She yelled pointing her finger at Cabir.
"It's ok Naina!! What we'll expect from others when our so called friend is also like that? Right Manik? Ain't I ?? ". Nandini sneered.
All three of them were giving me killer looks. Well I presume they all are very much angry right now. Now also I presume..too optimistic!! I mocked myself.
Heaving a sigh, I moved towards Nandini.
"I am...I am...sorry...I didn't mean what I said... I just said..in the spur of the moment." I stuttered looking everywhere except her. I am embarrassed with my own guilt.
"No it's not ok this time, Manik". My head snapped directly meeting her lament eyes.
"I am really sorry...try and understand Nandini". I asked her forgiveness again with sincerity but she gave no response. She was still standing there only.
"Manik my room keys, I suppose it's with you, just give it " she asked me sternly.
With the intention to not make her anymore angry, I immediately gave the key to her. Snatching it, she started moving towards the lift.
"I said I am sorry, isn't it enough for you. Don't you understand that it just slipped out of my mouth". Turning around, I yelled at her frustratedly. I just don't get it what's so big deal in this. It was now getting on my nerves.
Hearing me, she stopped in her tracks but she was still facing that side maintaining her stiff posture.
"No I don't understand and I don't want to understand! Do you want to know why Manik? ". She spoke softly without facing me.
"Because sometimes we expect more from others because we would be willing to do that much for them." The moment these words slipped from her mouth, my annoyance was replaced with the feeling of remorse.
I was feeling ashamed with the amount of hurt that my words have caused her. Though her face showed only anger but I know she wouldn't have said this if she was only angry.
"Nandini..." Only one word came out from my mouth. Ignoring my attempt, she went ahead and entered the lift.
"Cabir you take Naina with you, I'll just go and talk to her." I gave my room key to him. Understanding the seriousness of the situation, they both chose to remain quiet.
I hurriedly moved and took the way to stairs.
Within two minutes, I am here standing outside her room 302, thinking whether to knock or not. Ultimately making my decision, I opened the door of her room very quietly.
A lot you have to do Manik ...let's get started .. I encouraged myself.
There is no doubt that she acts like a kid but sometimes she even looks like a kid. Like now, sitting there at the corner of the bed, with both palms resting on her fluffed cheeks.
"Nandini.. I am sorry". I started but she stopped me showing her hand
"Not now Manik...not now please. Even clingy and obnoxious girl like me needs space so please ". She commanded me furiously. The same words from her mouth felt no less than a dagger.
"Listen to me once Nandini". I begged her.
I took her silence as my cue. I went at the corner of the bed where she was sitting. I took her both hands on mine and sat there, with my knees on the floor.
"You are not clingy, you are the girl who is least affected by my charms because you yourself are way charming for me." Her features softened after hearing me but I wasn't finished yet.
"You are not obnoxious at all. You are always pleasant even with your witty remarks and punishment. Only few people see such amazing and beautiful girls and isn't it a good luck that I am also one of them?" Finally I could see a smile tugging her lips.
"Manik what is this between us? What are we Manik?" She asked me in a mellow tone. What should I tell you when I myself don't have the answer.
"Nandini...I don't have answer to your question right now. But I promise you that by the end of this trip we'll find the answer to it. I just know this feeling...I mean I just love this feeling in me." I leaned and gave her a soft kiss on forehead.
"So am I forgiven now??" I asked her hopefully.
"Not yet!!" She said taking her hands away from mine.
Why now?? It's so tough to understand her!!! Help me god!! I ran fingers on my hairs helplessly.
"Please Nandini...Forgive me... Heck you say I'll be your pet but just say you forgive me" I again asked her desperately.
"You are so corny Manik". A smirk appeared on her face and she started laughing hysterically.
What ?? Seriously I am too much confused with her behavior.
I got up from floor and sat beside her.
"It's ok Manik. I was mad at you two minutes before but I understand now. It was really silly of me to take those things seriously. I know you definitely didn't mean that way". She spoke seriously.
Turning her face towards mine, she added further " Its just that hearing those things from you had pierced my heart for a while.
Understanding her, I gave an apologetic smile with a nod.
"But you are not off the hook Manik, remember you said you'll be my pet if I say so". She held a mischievous grin.
I do remember that. Shock took over me. She took that seriously!! I had said that just like that. O God!!!
I just don't know how does I even utter shit like that in front of her in spite of knowing her so well.
I tried to hide the panic inside my head with a fake smile.
"So deal Manik?" She was waiting for my response. I just gave a nod, unsure of what to talk now since my thoughts roamed only around her statement.
"Ok I'll go now. You rest. We'll meet in evening." I told her in one breath. I need some air now. I need to get out from here soon.
She gave me a warm smile in return. And I knew that we were again just like before, everything was forgotten.
I moved out closing the door quietly in the same way as I entered.
I entered my room and slammed the doors freely, only to witness an amusing sight in my couch.
"What the hell?"
Naina lying on top of Cabir. Her hands on his hair. And his hands holding her wrists.
"What the hell is going on??" I yelled
Sensing my presence, their heads snapped towards my direction.
Save me god!! These two dumb heads are wrestling on my couch. What are they even fighting for? Why the hell they are even fighting??
"Manik thank god you are here. Just save me from this bull dog." Cabir begged me, trying to remove her hands from his hair.
"First you apologize you twit!!" She spat.
Without wasting anytime, I moved forward to stop them. I held Naina from waist removing her hands from Cabir's hair.
"Naina what are you doing? Why are you acting so violent?" Being frustrated, I shouted at her.
She straightened her hair and took breaths before answering me. "I am just behaving in the same manner as he is expecting of me." I am extremely confused right now.
"I'll tell you Manik". Cabir pulled me to face him. "She is mad I am telling you! I just stated that sometimes she behaves like a bull. Then she jumped on me out of nowhere and started beating me". He completed in one breath.
I gave an amused look to Naina. She shrugged her shoulders in return and passed a sarcastic smile to him.
"Way too similar best friends". I murmured.
Ignoring both of them I dropped myself on the couch. Stretching my legs and keeping my hands behind my head, I closed my eyes.
"Manik, what happened between you guys?? Everything ok??" I opened my eyes on hearing Cabir's words.
They both were eagerly waiting for my answer. I again closed my eyes and took a huge breath.
"Yup, everything is fine. She is good. Just one sentence was enough.." I replied nonchalantly.
"Ahem... What's that one sentence Manik?" Naina asked me arching her brow. She is no less than Cabir.
"Nothing much...just that..." I sat straight avoiding any eye contact. Go Manik you can say it!! I motivated myself. " ...iwillbeyourpet" And there it is.. I said it.
"Manik speak properly I didn't..." Before Cabir could complete, Naina cut him in between.
"You said what!!" She was more than shocked. Good! Well that means she understood. These both girls have a lot of amazing and unique talents.
"You.said.you.will.be.her.pet". She emphasized each word clearly. Both of them were gaping me like a goldfish.
"Ahu ahuuu..." Cabir started coughing. Not again!! Oh come on it's not such a big deal!
"Go on laugh as much as you want! Don't stop yourself." I told him in a stern voice.
He came and sat beside me on the couch. Come on ...three, two, one and here we go with his boisterous laugh.
"Manik...I just...don't have...words,..dude". He spoke in between his laughs.
Naina was still giving me amused looks. Sitting on my other side, she pinched me sharply.
"What now?" I asked exasperatedly
"You do realize what you have done?" She questioned me seriously.
"I just don't understand what is so big deal in this. Already I am fulfilling her wishes and by being her pet for once I'll have to do what she says. So nothing new according to me." I tried clarifying with her.
"Manik my dear, I'll not ruin your surprise". She gave me an impish look.
First of all I am not getting anything what Naina is saying and second this giggling sounds by Cabir is irritating me to hell. I'll just get mad. !!
"I'll leave you both for now. I am going my room. So bye guys!" She hurriedly went out of the room as if there was a tail of fire behind her.
"Cabir I think we should talk to others, they are upset." I think it's time that I should clear some things with them so that this type of incident doesn't happen once again.
"Bro even I was waiting to say the same to you. We should talk". He instantly agreed with my point.
"Let's go then". I immediately went out with Cabir following me. I called Mukti on the way asking her to meet up in Dhruv's room.
I took a huge breath before moving the knob of the door.
"Don't worry. I am there". Cabir gave a pat on my shoulder.
All three of them were already there. It was easy to make out that both the girls were still annoyed.
"Ahem". I cleared my throat to grab everyone's attention.
"Listen guys, I want you all to know something..." I trailed. "It's about Nandini guys. I didn't informed you all this before. We knew her from before". I paused to look at everyone.
"What?? I already knew something fishy was there." Mukti marched towards me angrily.
"Actually guys". Cabir interjected, giving me a wink. "We have known her for a long time because it's just that she is a very close family friend. And we have business relations with her family so that's the reason we have already met her many a times. And we didn't tell you all before because...because..."
"Yes Cabir. Please do tell tell us why. We also want to know". Aliya asked him furiously.
"All because of this Manik." Don't go there Cabir..I'll seriously kill you. I'll get mad today for sure. Either I'll go jail or mental asylum!!
"Ya because of him. He told me that no matter she is our friend, we'll rag her. After all we are fab5. But I said she is too smart for that. So finally we made a bet about this". He paused and gave me a cunning smile.
"And we all know very well that he lost the bet from me very badly". He finished his story finally embarrassing me. He never leaves a single chance. But this time I am impressed Cabir. Great going!!
"Hmm... Listen Manik we don't have any problems with her. It's just that I thought she was purposely picking fights with you and us. And it was getting on my nerves". Mukti spoke guiltily.
I know she cares for me a lot and due to this she always behaves impulsively.
I held her shoulders and spoke in a soft tone. "I know you Mukti very well. And believe me I didn't felt bad at all. I'll just request you to don't say any harsh things to her."
"Manik you don't worry. Heck! I'll try to even befriend her. No harm in that". She chirped cheerily.
"And Aliya you also please don't say those type of things to her." Cabir's voice held a serious concern for her princess. I am impressed man!!
"Hmm. I'll not". Aliya forced a smile.
"So guys all cool now". I rubbed my palms excitedly.
"Manik everything is cool bro. You take too much tension. These two girls are silly. So stop minding about them." Dhruv deadpanned with his eyes still closed. We all smiled on his ever cool and calm nature. He'll never change.
"Guys let's rest now. There is a musical camp in the evening. We'll meet then". I informed everyone.
"Wait, what? Really? And you are telling us this now Manik". Mukti hugged me tightly.
"Come on let's rest now guys. We all are tired." I announced and moved towards the door but stopped instantly on hearing Aliya's words.
"Manik is she a very close friend of yours?" There was something in her voice. I turned and looked at her. I know those hopeful looks. I know what she is expecting but sorry Aliya I need to be honest.
"Sought of... You can say so". Speaking truthfully, I moved out of the room.
As soon as we entered our room, we dropped ourselves into the comfy bed.
"Long hectic day!" Cabir spoke tiredly
"Hmm ...along with long emotional talks as well!!" I replied and closed my eyes. Cabir said something in return but by the time I had already entered into darkness.
