At the recent shoot for a wedding sequence on the sets of Ardhangini, a 12-ft long snake suddenly fell from the ceiling, sending all the unit members into a panic. The production house had shelled out Rs 6 lakh for the wedding scene that was being shot at State Studios, Goregaon, with 25 actors. At the sight of the snake, the unit members ran out in all directions. Eventually, snake charmers were summoned to bring the situation under control.
Says producer Kinnary Mehta," We were shooting for the haldi ceremony sequence with the entire unit when the snake dropped from the ceiling. Everybody got scared and ran helter-skelter. The spot boys were asked to remove the snake from the set and lots of snake charmers were also called in. The local people were a big help."
He adds, "Everyone was petrified and started screaming. They completely refused to shoot indoors. Half the crew was waiting for the snake to be removed. We were shooting for the next day's telecast and hence everything got delayed. Finally, the spot boys took the snake out of the hall from the small window on the set."
"The local people informed us that there were some 200 snakes in the thick bushes around the place. We also came to know that a male and a female snake creep into the sets every day. I have stationed a snake charmer and two boys next to the window in the set to keep a watch. I can't afford to have the shooting delayed due to such incidents. We have a tight schedule as we have to shoot back to back," he says.
