Part II

"You're Pathetic"

The walls were closing in. Reality began to set in, a reality in which her husband was nothing but a lifeless being in front of her. He might have gone but his voice still lingered.

"You're Pathetic"

Over and over again, ringing in her head. She covered her ears trying to drown out his voice but to no avail.

"How could you kill me Asha" He demanded towering over her as she cowered.

"I...I didn't mean to" she whispered out in guilt

"You just killed your own husband while our daughter slept upstairs. "and you call me the monster" he scoffed. "You're a murderer Asha... you were a horrible wife and you will be a horrible mother."

"Shut up !" she screamed. "Shut uppp" she cried into her arms, unable to come to terms with what she had just done.

He laughed menacingly "You can't silence me now baby. Ill be with you forever."

He walked closer to her whispering into her ears " In your thoughts...In your dreams...In your nightmares.You have set me free."

"What have I done?" Asha repeated to her self scratching her face so hard almost drawing blood.

Shame, resentment, anger and guilt. Its one thing to understand these emotions but to feel them all at once was that was something no one could have prepared her for.

Her daughter would forever have to live with the brunt of her decisions.

"You know what they'll call her right ?" he asked knowing just the right points to hit.

"Murderers daughter...ohh I can just hear it, daughter of the senile woman who killed her innocent loving husband"

"No.. stop it...Please stop it" she pleaded.

"How can you be so selfish?...How can you live with yourself knowing what you will be subjecting her to?" he prodded.

"How can I live with myself?" she asked herself almost coming to a realisation.

"Without me my baby will have a chance" she wiped her tears determined. She ran up the stairs to the nursery and carried her beautiful angel in her arms.

"I need you to know, that I love you more than the whole wide world. Thats why I must do this." she cooed trying to make sense of the situation.

"All my life I have been weak, never able to stand up for what's right. For the first time baby, I am going to do whats right." she spoke firmly to her baby.

"I will not let you grow up to be like me. This will be the last of your troubles baby, Mama loves you. One day you will understand." She whispered.

Asha put Sonakshi back in her crib and moved to a write a letter for her to one day read when she was older.

She walked robotically up the stairs to the balcony and calmly dialled 911.

" 911 what's your emergency?" an operator responded promptly .

"Look after my baby." Asha uttered for the last time.

"Mam...mam" the operator tried again. But all she met with was silence.
