PEMRA bans Amir Liaquat's Inaam Ghar for three days
Many a times, we end being a bit too harsh on Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and don't take into consideration the fact that the authority caters to a wide audience. An audience which includes individuals who believe in banning Udaari and individuals who feel Hindi cartoons are influencing our culture; but all of us agree that gaining TRPs on a girl's plight or abusing on television should not be allowed.
Hence, PEMRA has decided to place a three-day ban on Amir Liaquat's game show, Inaam Ghar, for depicting a girl's suicide during their live transmission on June 13, 2016 and enticing a participant to swear live on television.
The regulatory body had earlier issued a notice to the channel asking them to submit their explanation by June 21. A hearing was held today at PEMRA's regional office to discuss the case where Geo Entertainment's council asked for more time to submit their explanation. PEMRA has asked the channel to submit their reply by third day of Eid.
Meanwhile, the regulatory body has imposed a ban on Inaam Ghar, from June 28 to June 30, for causing distress to the viewers who sent multiple complains to PEMRA. The authority has further asked the host of the show, Amir Liaquat, to apologise on air in his show on July 1 (after the ban) and make sure that he doesn't violate PEMRA's code of conduct in future.
PEMRA's council of complaints also discussed Amir Liaquat's Ramazan promo where he was seen donning an army uniform. The notice stated that in future, programs and individuals will have to take permission from ISPR and inform PEMRA before using the uniform for commercial purpose.
