"Still awake, Geet."
Geet nearly choked on her coke as she heard his husky voice from behind her.
Gosh, how bad could this be.
Being family friends for more than 30 years, Mr Handa found it to be the best option to leave Geet at the Khuranas when they had to go abroad for a week for the medical exams of Mrs Handa who had not been keeping well lately, much to Geet's dismay of course, who didn't want to stay there, especially with him in the same house. What added to her misery was that Mr and Mrs Khurana along with Naintara and Dev were to attend a wedding during the week end in another city leaving Geet alone with Maan and Vicky.
With no elders in the house, Vicky, after assurance from Geet went out for a movie with his girlfriend Pari, leaving Geet alone at KM while Maan was supposedly working. Being the workaholic person he is, Geet was sure he would not be back before she retired to bed or before Vicky's return, thus, assuring herself that she was perfectly *safe* from him.
So, there she was, planked onto the sofa in the TV room in her baby-doll night clothes with a packet of chips and a can of coke, watching her all time favorite cartoon, Woody Wood Pecker, which was coming on TV.
Although his work was no less than a *prayer* for him, that day, Maan was more than eager and impatient to reach home the earliest possible since he was perfectly aware that she would be alone at home. Maybe he will finally be able to sort out things with her, he thought.
He had known Geet since always and they have actually been rivals all throughout their lives given that they were of the same age with Maan elder to Geet by simply 5 months. They have been competitors at school all the time, be it in KG, Primary, College or University. Well, they had chosen the same faculty and their parents were more than happy to get both of them in the same institution all the time, much to their displeasure.
If it had not been for that awful incident on the farewell party, then maybe their feelings for each other would have never changed. Having had a spiked drink, Geet nearly landed herself into trouble had it not been for Maan who came to her rescue at the right moment. Maan could still remember her blabbers from that night in her drunken state which made him conclude that she was not that bad after all. When that opinion changed into attraction and eventually something deeper, even Maan had no idea. Since that day, he looked at her from a different point of view and maybe that is how he gradually fell for her, he thought as he let out a chuckle.
But well, that was not the case with Geet or so he thought maybe. The very next day of the farewell party, when Geet got to know what all happened, she could not get enough of thanking God for having sent Maan to her at the right moment. And well, being the person she is, she didn't hesitate once before thanking him for what he did. Even from her side, something had changed since that day, something she was not ready to accept though. They were no longer studying together but they still used to meet during get togethers, family dinners among others. She had started softening a bit towards him, for which she gave the fact that he had saved her big time as the main reason.
Seeing her changed behaviour as Maan became certain of his feelings for her, he thought that maybe she also had started developed the same feelings for him and that is why he wasted no time in voicing out his feelings to her for which he received a slap in return and not to mention those hurtful words which pierced his heart like anything.
Reminding him of his Casanova image, Geet had refused to give him a chance. Maan could never refute this fact, but at the same time, he knew that what he felt for Geet was something totally different about which he was serious. If only Geet would have understood him, then he wouldn't have had to use his crook ways to make her realise his love for her.
Oh yes, knowing Geet's nature, Maan was perfectly aware that Geet would never listen to him nor would she acknowledge her feelings for her, which he was sure she had, if he continued being the sweet, patient Maan with her. That is why he had taken the help of his devilish mind and would go to his *devil* self to annoy and irritate her all the time she would be with or near him.
The loud screech of brakes brought Maan back to reality as he realised he was home already and that too with no one around except Geet, he thought with a wide grin.
It's now or never. Either he will make her confess tonight or he will marry her against her will. It was too much for him to take especially when he knew he loved her to such an extent that he would not be able to live without her now.
Ironic!!!! Maan thought. Earlier he used to despise the very sight of hers like she used to of his and today, he finds it so difficult to live without her.
Moving around stealthily in his own house, Maan finally reached the TV room where he saw her lying on the sofa from the back sipping her coke.
Time for some fun, thought Maan with a smirk as he loosened his tie, removed his suit and placed his bag in one corner.
"Still awake, Geet," he had said in the huskiest voice possible as he knew that it would indeed affect her. And the scene with which he was welcomed was more than enough to compensate for the day's longing ever since he got to know about them being alone at home on that particular day. Of course he knew Vicky had not accompanied the others to the wedding. That is why, he had suggested him to go for a movie with his girlfriend Pari.
Maan had it clear in his mind to get her confession on that day and he was ready to do anything for that, even if it meant keeping his brother away from his own house. But well, he was sweet and kind enough to send him on a movie. In this way, even he will be able to spend some quality time with his Pari, that is, if they actually went for a movie, thought Maan who knew his little bro too well.
