Chapter 1 : The Proposal

It's almost dawn, Dev just parked the car in front of my house to drop me home.

"So Ms Bose, we have reached ur home" sighed Dev with a quizzical look on his face.

But I was in no mood to get off the car. I was lost in my own thoughts pondering the beautiful moments that took place 2 hours back and a smile crept over my lip.

"Sona, Sonaaa, Sonakshi ?? Where are you lost?" Dev shook me with his hand and his single touch brought me out of my reverie .

"haaah !! Woh ami , main...hum ghar agaye ? " I am sad that the night is over so fast.

"Haaan, bcz it's already half past 6 and by now ur parents might have woken up " Dev uttered slowly with a frown trying to comprehend my reaction.

"Oh no, Ma,Baba, kya kahu main un logo ko , main kaha thi , kiske saath thi, Dev yeh apne kya kar di , apne kitne der kara di meri !!" I panicked like a maniac.

"Maine ? it's you who was not moving from the sit, I was calling you for about 15 minutes, pata bhi hai tumhe ? Typical Dev, never can take a blame on himself quietly, he had to find my tiny mistake in this too.

I was fidgeting my hands with my face looking down to hide the shyness ,now wait, where this shyness is coming from! I m Doctor Sonakshi Bose , how can I even feel shy at those silly words? Crazy me !

"Ohk, don't worry, let me call Elena, akher tumhara love guru kab kam ayegi ?" Once again Dev broke my chain of thoughts.

"Ohho, to dev babu aap the kaha , who bhi Sona ki saath ? Aur Sona you were sick na? How could you just walk out of your house and just text me to lock it that too after you were gone ? " Elena came very after she got the call and what to expect more! She was fully ON with her teasing session early in the morning too !

And me the typical love struck girl just found no words to explain in front of Dev, to my rescue, Dev said first , "Elena ji, I think we will get enough time later to discuss that but for now , plz take your sis inside so that apke masa mausi ko Sona ki night tour ki bare paata na chale, kyun ?"

"Are haan" Elena bit her toungue." Sona jaldi chal, Masi agar hum dono is waqt dekhengi to viva board ki interviwer ki tarha sstart ho jayengi, Ok Dev Babu, Bye" Elena started walking me grabbing my shoulder with her arms.

Just before entering house I turned back only to find him with a content smile on his lip.

Chapter 2 : Because I Love you

"Elena plz help me na . Which suit should I wear?" I had ransacked through all my suits and made a mess on my bed with the pile of dresses. I generally like all of my dresses as I buy them on my own but when it came to decide what to put on for our first movie date , suddenly I feel I don't have a single beautiful salwar suit that will look good on me. Yes you heard it right. It's a movie I am going to watch with Mr Ovodro !😃😃 As I always knew Dev had a zero experience with romantic movie , I couldn't let go but grab the chance to decide what to do on Sunday, the 7^th day after Dev proposed me and luckily AuntyJi (Ishwari Ji) will be away whole day to attend Nikki's College function. Though she didn't want to go there instead she was pushing Neha to go but to Nikki's nonstop begging she had to give in.

"Sona how many times I should say you are looking good in each of your dress, Dev doesn't give a damn about what you wear, so just put one damn suit on and go. It's already 1 p.m. and you movie will be started in half an hour plus today is Sunday, hard to get a ticket darling" Elena said in an irritating tone.🥱

Just then my phone beeped, Dev texted. He's already in front of my house. "God , Sona jaldi kar" I scolded myself.

"Sorry Sir, all tickets are sold out, you can buy ticket for the next show which would be at 7.00 p.m." The cashier of the counter said with a suggestive look towards us.

Dev tuned to me with his eyebrows raised.

"Forget it, we will come some other day, waise bhi aaj Sunday hai, Aunty would wantyou to be at home in the evening, let's just have lunch. " I felt like crying.

We moved towards the food court and chose a corner seat near the railing .

"Sona what happened? Are it's only a movie , why are you so upset for this, we will come another day and watch it, what's the big deal?" Dev was trying to cheer me up.

"I know we can come again, but I don't know, I'm just upset with the fact that the day didn't go the way it was planned and I wanted you to watch this movie so very much, God!! I was so excited!" I almost cried.

"Accha chalo thik hain, u said u watched the film before , so why don't you share the story with me over food? Next time we will watch another romaaantic movie . What say ? " Dev came up with a solution.

"Yeesss, that we can do, in fact that's a good idea, waise bhi I would have shared my thought over the important scene during the movie, this way I can tell you in more detail with my intelligent remarks." I giggled.

"So let's start" Dev smiled.

It took me almost one and half an hour to narrate the story, I made sure to include every tiny detail about each scene, expressions and dialogue and of course needless to say my own feelings regarding each interesting scene.

"So finally thus they met ! " I huffed with a victory smile. I was more than happy to share the movie with him in my own version.

"Sonakshi are you sure about the last scene? " Dev enquired.

"Mane ? I mean why, of course am sure!" I said assertively.

"You said the girl ran towards the boy, then they hugged and the movie ends there. Are you sure, nothing happens there after the hug?" Dev asked teasingly.

"Yes, why should I lie? I watched the movie so many times I know too how it ended" I blabbered.

"Ms Sonakshi Bose , if you are so sure then why didn't you say that after the hug they ...they ...they kissed ? " Finally Dev burst the balloon.

"Youuu, you knew that? How do you know? You watched the movie before right? OMG!! How could you just lie? Dev you just made fun of me. Here I was upset because it's me because of whom we are late for the movie and you, you were just having fun watching me? And if you had watched the movie before then why did you ask me to describe the story?" I almost screamed and was fuming inside which was clearly coming through. And what worse can he make it! He started laughing like a kid who just made a fool of his friend. It's the same amused look on his face first time I saw when there was a power cut at his home. I stopped asking and kept looking at the childlike face of my Mr Ovodro.

"Ohk, ok, let me explain", after a whole 5 minute finally Dev managed to get into his normal mode still smiling. "The thing is, when 4 days back you told me about this particular movie and also how much you love this movie and never get bored no matter how many times you watch it, I downloaded the movie and watched it in one go that very night and then yesterday when you suggested to watch the movie as it's again being shown in theatres I couldn't resist to see it again with you beside me"

"Fine, then why did you ask me to describe the story, you could have just told me that you watched?" I quizzed suspiciously!

"Because I wanted to see each and every expressions of your face during the movie...But you know what? I got more than I thought in last 2 hours ,

And trust me the movie sounds thousand times better when I hear it from you." Dev answered in a husky voice.

Chapter 3 : I'm there!


Sonakshi's POV:

So finally the day has come, today I'm getting engaged to Ritwik. This is the safest way I chose to make my family happy, to make myself move on from past. But is it true? All this while Dev had been saying, I am doing this only to punish him, only to see him suffer. Is he right? Am I only doing this because Dev has crushed all my hopes and dreams in one go? Or is it my self-respect that got hurt by Dev's cruel decision? Do I really realize what am I doing ? Will I be able to make Ritvik happy while I'm already shattered inside. Does all this really matter to me?

One side, there is my family, to whom my happiness matter the most, other side, I have Dev , yes Dev . I know what he's going through every second since we broke up. I know how he's fighting with himself inside not to interfere in my life yet ending up doing all selfish moves. I know how he feels when he sees me with Ritvik, because I had been there, trust me I'd been there. Yet I am lying to myself becoming numb to every emotion.

"Sona, you are ready naa?? They will come in few minutes" Elena broke me out of my chain of thoughts.

"Haan Elena, I'm done!" I said

"You are ok na Sona? I mean are you happy with this alliance?" Honest concern in Elena'r voice comes through.

"Yes baaba I m ok, even if I'm not I will be , don't worry" I tried to avoid her eyes.

"Elena Sona, are you all ready? They have reached. Sona??" Mom hurried into my room and said in a tensed voice. She's been working for all day and didn't sit for a minute. Starting from the decoration to preparing food , everything she's been taking care of with undivided attention. Saying this Ma suddenly stopped for a moment and walked up to me. "Kisi ki nazar na lage meri bacchi ko!!" Ma placed a soft kiss on my forehead; I could see a drop of tear in the corner of her eyes.

"maashi!! Please save this melodrama for the wedding, ab to bas sagaai ho rahi hai, U want to start from now??" Elena tried to distract Ma.

"Are haan , I almost forgot , u two come downstairs quickly, they are waiting , I have to go and check on the preparations, Elena don't be late, bring her fast "

"It's time, we should start the rituals" Pandiji suggested.

I was already made sit beside Ritvik. Ritvik's sister gave him the ring to put that on my finger. Ritvik took my hand and looked at me, asking for permissions with his gentle eyes.
Suddenly a series of moments flashed before my eyes. The moments I passed with Dev, when he made me wear the bangle, when he put the flowers in my hair, when he wrote our name on my neck, and what not! But my track of memories stopped at one moment, the promises I made to him. Yes, I promised him. I promised him to stay with him forever even if he left me. I promised to hold onto him no matter how many obstacles we face.

This one promise brought my conscience back. What am I doing? This is not me! I can't do this! I can't do this to Ritvik, to my family and to Dev. Dev had all right to leave me but that doesn't mean I have to break my own beliefs of life! I loved him. This is the one love story I cherished for all my life. Dev might not be able to accept me, but how could I forget the promises I made to him. I cannot be with him, but I can be with myself with his memories as long as I want. My wait for him is in vain right now, but my wait to see him happy might make me happy as well, who knows! At least I can say to myself, I'm there, I'm there with him even when he's alone and will always be there even when we are miles apart.

I looked at Ritvik, closed my eyes, took a deep breath and stood up.
