Part 14

It was not long before Arnav saw two cars following them with an intention to overtake them and capture the passengers inside. Arnav changed the gear, feeling his own adrenaline gush through his blood vessels, and took a diversion to an isolated and forested route, formulating a plan in his mind and hoping that it would work.

The road had not changed, which meant that the plan wouldn't have to be changed accordingly. Arnav thanked his fate which turned merciful towards him for once. Khushi alternated her vision in between Arnav and the rear, looking for dangers and signs from him, which she received as he nodded with a determined glint in his eyes.

The grille crashed onto one of the trees, while the men who were following them immediately pulled to a stop. The leader of the group, who had loved Khushi dearly and had seen her right from her infancy, wanted them to escape from their hands. But he was nothing more than a puppet in the hands of Sudhakar, for whom his name meant more than his own daughter's life and he would not hesitate to torment the person to death, who dared to disobey his orders.

They rushed out of their seats to the wanted, if they were alive but it seemed that only failure was etched in their destiny for the moment.

The car blasted into fumes right in front of them and the men stepped back in retreat, knowing that it is impossible to survive the blast if they had survived the crash. Although it was sad that their Khushi Bitiya had perished in the blast, they all knew that if she was caught by her father then her fate would have been worse than death.

Letting out a small apology to Khushi's soul and the God, the men departed from there to give the news of the deaths of his daughter and son-in-law to Sudhakar Gupta. And there was no doubt in their mind that he will be immensely happy about it.

Mildly bruised and burned Arnav and Khushi arose from the leaves which managed to camouflage their presence and hence, saved their life. Arnav had purposefully driven towards a very thick path of trees on the side of the road so that Khushi, who had moved towards the backseat stealthily, and he could jump of the car before it crashes. They made a run just as they reached the ground, knowing that the car would burst into flames and their plan had worked.

The reality had bared itself in front of them, as the obliviousness arising from their fear faded away. They were dead to the world.

Dead...

They wanted them to be dead. For the sin of loving someone enough to not mind pain and death. From the heart that burst into pieces, due to the absolute cruelty and lack of compassion from the man who was reason of her birth and the woman who carried her for nine months in her womb, came the floods of anguish which broke the dams of her eyes. While their betrayal broke her world, it ripped Khushi's soul to realize that her world was rejoined at the cost of her Sumitra Maa's life.

Arnav, who was panting after the tiring run they had completed, was shaken to see his Khushi broken. Khushi and Sumitra were very emotionally attached to each other and it would be completely wrong to assume that the worry for Sumitra was biting away Khushi's restrain and composure.

"Khushi..."

Khushi flung herself into the protective cocoon of his embrace as soon as the whisper left his lips. The warmth of his body and the rhythm of his breaths lulled her into relaxation within a few moments.

Arnav caressed her back to further relax her while placing tiny kisses over her hair and whispering "It's over," to her. Pangs of guilt made him stop. This was what Khushi wanted to prevent. If not for Sumitra and Nikhil, they would have been dead by now and he had misunderstood her for five years.

" I am sorry that you had to leave behind your everything for me and had to put your life into danger, Khushi. I-"

Khushi placed her finger on his lips, stopping him from speaking further. "It's better to die with you and for you than living with people who don't even love me, for whom I am just a trophy. If you dare to apologize to me again on this matter, I will not hesitate before really kicking you hard."

Arnav chuckled at her threat and Khushi joined in but she stopped soon. " Arnav, we will have to leave this place soon. This forest is not at all safe during the night and we will have to make it out of the forest as soon as possible. You have your phone right?"

Arnav's features darkened with seriousness as he pulled his phone out immediately and turned the GPS on, so that they can make their way out.

" According to the map, we will have to walk for almost 40 minutes to the place
where Lav said that she would be. That's not too much."

Khushi nodded as she took in the information and inwardly promised Sumitra that she would not let her sacrifice go in vain; that would be a great dishonor to a sacrifice as great as Sumitra's.

" Which way should we head to?"

Arnav pointed towards his left. " This way."

They set out on the hard journey which lay ahead of them, hand-in-hand and will to always be together, no matter what that brings them.

Gupta Mansion,

"How dare you shoot me, Sumitra? You thought you will get away with it? The consequences for it don't end here, but will only get worse for you."

Sumitra whimpered in pain as Sudhakar held her hair in a vice-like grip but she showed no sign of regret or fear in her eyes. The determined and fearless glint never left her tear-filled eyes throughout the torture which reigned for the better part of the last one hour.

The door opened with a bang while Sumitra pulled a sheet over herself, in an attempt to hide her bruised and beaten naked self, which bore the marks of her husband's brutal physical, mental and sexual torture on her.

" Consequences will be worse for YOU, Mr.Gupta. You are under arrest."
