How to land on a movie set?

To become an AD or a spot boy or assistant of any sorts. How to proceed?

My friend became an AD...he landed via some contacts he had thru his friends. Basically you need to have some contacts...chota mota bhi chalega.

Thank you but what if the contacts don't have the power to influence the ones who hires people on sets. Do they at least agree for a meeting or something? Are they flexible that way? Or does one need to enroll themselves in an agency of sorts? An agency which does background checks and then lets the enrolled folks know about the openings in these positions?

Contacts work, landing up on set strategy is doomed to end in failure. Also be prepared to work as an intern with very low or almost no pay in the start for very long and odd hours.

ADs/assistants are most under paid jobs. Most likely people dont even get paid and told to do for free for experience. They are thankless jobs which no one appreciates or cares about. They will be happy to get some extra hands at no cost. 😆When you go thru contacts the contact has to ensure you are not a bumbling idiot otherwise they will get a firing from the big bosses. Thats the advantage they have to hire people via contacts.

I think agencies and all are applicable more to trained technicians on the sets or those seen onscreen ie background dancers, extra who have unions. But even these people are associated to some bigshots. Like dancers are associated with choreographers who provide background dancers etc.

My friend worked for a month in that shoot and got fed up and came back. It didnt impact his career much as he joined immediately on another shoot in a better location.

Every destiny has a right path...

so first you have to see what is your destiny and chalk out the path

they say film line is the line of illusion...yes it is but then there are many people who have got what they want ...because they planned their path to their destiny

entering in the world of films or movie is based on three factors if you don't have Godfather godmother or source...

@Hajmola : Thanks a bunch for the info. I have known a few people who were associated to films years ago, I have heard many of their struggle stories. I'm trying to put two and two together by gathering all the information I could of the current scenario.
