I have seriously lost the urge to write on Ishra but I have been forced to do so by some serious blackmail (involving Puttar Gifs and Ishra VMs)

So for Aru, Anusha, Tia - the main blackmailers, and for Gan, Ash, Vidya, Krishy who are still watching YHM, and Shalz, Hema, Paru, Anu, Bhavs, Anj and Su, who arent but I lubs you all anyway, my take on Ishra milan in public ( as demanded by Aru) on Sharam wedding day.

Chappals are welcome.

PS: This is an OS but its a long one so I'll be posting in three parts.

😃 Sorry, but no translations as yet and no PMs.

MUJHE THAAM LE

He

The beautifully bedecked community hall in the Bhalla's building elicited gasps of wonderment from all who came in through the doors. All except one. The groom. The man of the moment.

He stood there with his brother and son, his body resplendent in a black silk sherwani, a slight stubble darkening his face, his eyes hidden behind his glasses. Empty eyes. Empty lifeless eyes that saw nothing. Not the beauty of the decorations. Not the splendour of the guests attire. And not even his bride.

She was sitting there with his daughter, his Pihu, dressed in a red designer sari. His mother and sister hovered nearby, their faces set in disapproval. Shagun Arora. Formerly Bhalla. Now soon to be Bhalla again. His bride. Once the woman of his dreams. And yet he had barely glanced at her. Couldn't care less what she looked like.

His entire being, all his energy, was focussed only on one person. One name. Ishita.

Ishita. His wife. No, ex-wife, he reminded himself. He remembered how, after he had announced his plans to marry Shagun, had thrust that bitter fact along with a thousand bitter taunts in her face yet again, she had come to him at the studios where Ruhaans commercial was being shot.

"What is this?" he had asked rudely, as she had held out a legal document to him.

"Divorce papers Raman" she had said, her voice quiet, resigned.

How he hated that quietness, that air of defeat that she effected. She had destroyed him, and here she was acting the martyr. How dare she? So he railed and ranted everytime he saw her, desperate to get her to react, so that he could justify once again to himself why he hated her.

"Divorce papers?" he had sneered. "Kyun? Tumhe uss Mani se shaadi karne ki bahut jaldi hai kya?"

"No Raman" she had replied quietly. "Shaadi karne ki jaldi toh aap ko hai. Shagun se"

And with that he had snatched the papers from her, had signed blindly as he stared at that once loved face, had severed his ties to her.

"I...I'll get this filed" she had whispered as she had gathered the papers he had thrown at her, averting her face as she sped away from his sight.

But he had seen the sheen of tears in her eyes, and his heart had been gladdened. Let her cry. Let her cry just like he had for seven years. Every night, drunk in his sorrow and guilt and shame. He had cried. Now let her. She had left him, had been happy with Mani and her new daughter while he had clung to the pieces of his shattered life. Now let her cry.

She had tried to stay away from him since that day, but she had been staying in his building and it had not been hard for him to seek her out. He had purposefully loitered near her door, taking Shagun with him. Had shadowed her to flaunt his fiancee in her face. Had continued with his barbs and his taunts and had smiled every time he had seen her eyes cloud over.

He did not know what he was doing. Did not know what he was saying. His life was spinning out of control. He had thought her dead for seven years. Had lived with the guilt of killing her fro seven years. Then he had seen her at the police station. And his heart had sung with the most incredible joy imaginable. But only for a moment. For Mani had arrived. And had made her choose between Raman's son and Mani's daughter. And she had meekly followed Mani out of the room.

If he had thought that what happened seven years ago was the worst pain a human could live through and yet still be standing, he had been mistaken. This was worse. This was betrayal. This cut was deeper, messier, bloodier. His battered heart could take no more - he had to destroy before he was destroyed.

And so he had declared war on his past. He would eradicate every vestige of his past with her. He would destroy them. How else could he live?

"Papa. Papa"

His son's voice shook Raman from his musings. Slowly, the sounds of shehnai and the chatter of his guests penetrated through the fuge surrounding his brain. He looked around slowly.

Shagun was sitting with Pihu, next to the mandap. Decked up as a bride, the centre of attraction, holding up her hands for Pihu to admire, her lips curving in a satisfied smile.

Deja vu.

He remembered his first wedding. She had been much younger then, but some things never changed. Then too there had been that same self absorption, that same vanity.

Then the second time he saw her decked as a bride. At that aborted wedding to Ashok. Sitting in her designer lehenga. But he had barely glanced at her then. His eyes had been riveted on his Ishita. Dressed in brown and gold, giggling at his jokes, drowning in his eyes.

Ishita.

"Papa, pandit ji is calling. Come"

He felt himself being led forward to the mandap. Saw Shagun being led by Pihu.

Deja vu again.

Ruhi, the spitting image of Pihu, in her canary yellow ghagra, grinning excitedly during his wedding to Ishita. Tying the gatbandhan. And Ishita smiling down at her.

Ishita.

"Why Ishita? Why did you leave me?"

"Yahan aaiye, Raman ji" And he was in the mandap, the pandit chanting.

And then a garland was being encircled around his neck.

It felt like a noose.

Like the noose around her neck. Ishita.

"Seven years Ishita. You stayed away from me. Stayed with him. And you won't even tell me why. Won't even talk to me. You have to tell me why Ishita. You owe it to me damn it. You have to Ishita"

"Ishita"

He did not know he had screamed her name, did not realise there was suddenly a pin drop silence in the room.

He backed out blindly from the mandap, tearing away at that noose around his neck.

He saw the shocked faces around him, heard their voices calling him back, but he could not stop.

"Raman'

"Puttar"

"Papa"

"Bhai"

He ran.

She

She pulled closed the doors of her apartment behind her, one last time.

She had told herself she had come here to unite the two families, but to be honest, she did not know why she had come.

She was determined not to go back into her past - she had already caused so much grief to these two families, to him. She had lost Ruhi. Ruhi had died because of her. That was the fact. And there was no escaping that fact. No getting away from it.

But she needn't have worried about going back to him. For he had made it abundantly clear that he did not want her in his life. He had misunderstood her relationship with Mani, that was clear. Maybe she should have cleared that misunderstanding.

But why? So that he would take her back in his life? No, he had made it very clear that he hated her. Still blamed her for Ruhi's death.

And now he was marrying Shagun.

So why did that hurt Ishita? She shook her head determinedly as tears threatened to engulf her. She had thought in Sydney that he had married Shagun. So why did that mistaken belief becoming true today have the power to hurt so much?

He had kicked her out of his life. So why did his continued hatred hurt so much?

She had survived without him. She would survive in the future.

Not with Mani though. Not in Sydney. Mani had too many expectations of her, expectations she could not meet.

There was no reason for her to hide now. She would stay in India, stay where she could keep in touch with Adi, her parents, her sisters. Maybe get news of the little daughter who did not know her, who she had failed. Maybe someday forge a relationship with that little girl too.

But she would stay away from him. Away from the bitterness she awoke in him. Away from the storms he unleashed in her.

After all, she was no longer his wife. She glanced at the sealed envelope in her hands, which had arrived from the court this afternoon. She had not had the courage to open it, but she would leave it with Adi. Raman would need it to register his marriage to Shagun. She just needed to get it to Adi without seeing his father.

Raman had come to her apartment this morning, insisting that she attend his wedding. But she could not. She had faked smiles for the past seven years and she had gotten so good at faking happiness that no body could see her tears any more. But to see him getting married was beyond even her endurance. She could not put herself through that misery. She had lost him forever, but the visual celebration of that loss would destroy her as nothing else had.

She glanced at her watch. The wedding would be happening now. She would call Adi when she got to the ground floor, to come and meet her in the carpark. Raman would be in the mandap now. There was no risk of seeing him.

She picked up her suitcase and headed to the lift.

Them

Ishita took a deep breath as she stepped out of the lift. The doors to the community hall were just opposite the lift, although across the hallway, and she could hear muted sounds from behind the closed doors.

She nodded at the security guard stationed outside the door who looked at her with frank curiosity.

"Aap ko andar jaana hai memsaab?" he asked

"Nahi" she shook her head. "Kisi ko bulana hai. It's okay, I'll call him"

She put her suitcase on the floor and searched in her bag for her mobile. Damn, where was it? Had she left it in the apartment? How was she to get hold of Adi? Maybe she should ask the security guard to call him.

She left her handbag on the suitcase and taking a deep breath crossed the hallway to the guard.

He is just there she thought. Just behind the door. Getting married. Going away from her. Forever. Her Raman

"Raman" his name was an anguished whisper she had no intention of uttering.

And then she heard her own name in reply.

It was a scream that burst through the closed doors.

"Ishita"

There was silence and then a hum of voices.

She stood rooted to the spot even as the guard jumped up off his seat.

And then the door opened.

He had run out of the mandap with one thought only - to find her, to demand an explanation. Fear consumed him as to whether he would be able to find her. What if she had run away again? How would he survive without an answer?

But she was standing there as he opened the door. Like an answer to his prayers.

And then he saw the suitcase behind her.

He strode up to her, and grabbed her roughly by the hand.

"Running away again?"

She squirmed in pain and looked up at him, tears springing into her eyes.

"Leave me Raman"

"Why? So you can run away again?"

The injustice of his accusations stung, but what hurt more was seeing him decked up as a groom. The black sherwani, the cream achkan, the tikka on his forehead.

He was getting married. To Shagun. Her husband. No, he wasn't. She had lost everything. He was no longer hers. He had thrown her out of his life.

And yet he accused her.

She knew that there were several people crowding behind him, peeking from the hall. She knew that he had been trying to have this showdown with her since she came. She had avoided any explanation. Had avoided him.

But what was the use now? She had lost. She had lost him. She did not care any more.

"Leave me"

In response his hold on her hand tightened.

"I won't let you run away again. You owe me some answers"

"I owe you nothing Mr. Bhalla. And what do you mean by run away again? When did I ever run away?"

His voice was silky, low and quiet. Dangerously quiet.

"Yaadash chali gayi Miss Ishita Iyer? You ran away seven years ago. Bhaag gayi thi hum sab ko chodh kar."

Ishita Iyer. It hurt to hear him call her that. His voice pierced through her heart and shattered it into tiny little pieces. And then her unendurable pain finally gave her voice.

"You kicked me out Raman. You kicked me out. Mein apni marzi se nahi gayi thi yahan se. Aap ne nikala tha mujhe"

She realised she was shouting, but she was beyond caring.

"Kya kaha tha aapne? Bannjh ho. Manhoos ho. Aapne nazro se dur hone ko kaha tha. Nikal jao warna zinda gaad doonga. Mere bacho ke saaya se bhi dur raho. Yahi kaha tha na aap ne Raman. Mujhe aap ki har ek shabd yaad hai. I remember each word Raman. You threw me out Raman. I did not run away."

"Toh gayi kyun?" He had grabbed both her arms now and shook her by her shoulders. "Mein ne kuch keh diya aur tum chali gayi? Aur mujhe chod diya apne maut ki zimmedaar bana ke?"

"Kuch keh diya Raman?" Her eyes blazed as the words which had haunted her for seven years again scratched her still raw wounds, causing her heart to bleed uncontrollably. "Aap ne mujhe baanjh kaha tha Raman. Aap ne. Mein Ruhi ke maut ke baad bhi zinda thi Raman. Mein ne socha tha ki aap mujhe sambhal loge. Lekin aap ne toh mujhe wahin, jeete jee mar diya Raman"

His hands fell from her shoulders as he saw the anguish in her eyes and at last realised what his words had done to her that day.

"Mein paagal ho gaya tha Ishita. Mein Ruhi ki ghum mein paagal ho gaya tha. Tum samajh nahi sakti thi kya mujhe? Why did you go Ishita? Tum ne mujh se waada kiya tha mujhe kabhi nahi chodhogi." He grabbed at her again, pulling her close to him, his reddened eyes blazing down at her. "Of all the people in the world, I thought you would understand. Understand my grief. Tum kyun chali gayi?

"Jaati nahi toh kya karti" She squirmed in his grip but he was too strong for her and her elbows got pinned against his chest as she struggled. "Mein ne Ruhi ko maar diya tha Raman. I killed Ruhi.

"NO" the words were wrenched from him in a hoarse guttural whisper. "I killed her Ishita. Ruhi died because of me. Mein ne tumhe convince kiya tha, aur woh ACP nahi bhi aata, toh mein kya kar leta. Ruhi ko mein ne maara Ishita. But I blamed you because I couldn't face myself. I thought you would understand. I thought you ...but you ..when I heard you had killed yourself, I..."

"No Raman, it was my fault...mine"

He shook his head and then pushed her away, running his hands across his face, trying to collect himself.

"That ACP said you killed yourself. I've been living with that guilt for seven years Ishita. Tumhe ek bhi baar hamari yaad nahi aayi? Adi ki, Pihu ki, ...meri? Tum meri kadwi baton sun kar yahan se chali toh gayi, lekin kabhi mud ke dekha bhi nahi? Humey chodh kar uss Mani ke saath.. hum sab ko apni zindagi mein replace kaar diya Ishita? Kyun?

"Kyunki aap ne sach kaha tha. Mein manhoos hoon. Mein aap ke zindagi mein aayi toh Ruhi ki jaan chali gayi. Humari choti si Rooh. I couldn't take that risk with Adi or our baby too Raman. Agar unhe bhi kuch ho jaata toh? Aur Raman, Raman mein Mani ke saath nahi gayi, mein ne toh apni jaan lene ki koshish ki thi. Mani got paralysed while trying to save me. Uske do chote bache theh, I had to look after them. Who sirf mera dost hai Raman. I was the reason for his paralysis. That's why I stayed with him. Warna mein to kab ke mar gayi hoti"

She wiped violently at her tears.

"Mein aap ko, ya apne bacho ko kaise replace karti Raman? Aap mere zindagi ho. Lekin meri Ruhi.. Aap ne sach kaha tha. Mein manhoos hoon. Mein manhoos hoon. Lekin mein jaa rahi hoon, aap Shagun ke saath, bachon ke saath khush rehna, mujhe wapas nahi aana chahiye tha, I shouldn't have..."

She covered her face with her hands as tears overwhelmed her, turning away from him, blindly looking for an escape. The next moment she felt her hands being roughly pulled into his, as he stumbled in front of her.

"Ishita"

For the first time since she had returned, he had taken her name without anger, without malice. But his voice was not normal. It was choked with tears, which ran unabashedly down his face as he cupped her chin in one hand, forcing her to face him.

She shook her head, her tears flowing unchecked, her eyes closed tightly. She could not look at him. She could not.

"Ishita please" she heard him say though his tears. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. Mujhe maaf kardo please Ishita please"

She opened her eyes then. Through her own tears she could see the genuine contrition in his eyes.

"I'm sorry too, Raman, but its too late" she whispered. "Ruhi... Hamari Ruhi nahi rahi"

"Toh kya hamara rishta sirf Ruhi ke liye tha? Kya mein tumhara kuch nahi?"

"Aap mere zindagi ho. Lekin mein aap ki koi nahi. Aap ki jab marzi hoti hai mujhe ghar se nikal dete ho. Mujhe sauteli kehte ho. Gaaliyan dete ho."

"I'm sorry Ishita. Mujh se bahut galtiyaan ho gayi lekin is ke itni badi sazaa mat do. Mein nahi jee sakta tumhaare bina. Saat saal mein har din sau maut mara hoon mai. I'm dead without you Ishita"

"Raman no. Aap ki shaadi Shagun se ho rahi hai."

"Woh toh..." He ran a hand across his face, cursing the temper which combined with his jealousy and pain had led him to almost making a monumental mistake. "I was so angry with you and you just wouldn't react. I only proposed to Shagun to spite you Ishita, I..."

"Lekin Raman"

"Lekin kuch nahi Ishita" He touched her face tentatively, gently wiping the tears flowing down her cheeks. "Please...listen to me...I love you Ishita, I...Nothing else matters. We will sort everything out. Bas tum wapas ghar chalo"

"Lekin Raman, hamari divorce" She held out the court envelope to him. "Mein yahan yeh dene aayi thi..."

He grabbed the envelope and threw it away from them.

"Nahi manta mein koi divorce ko. This is just a formality, hum dobara register karwa lenge. Biwi ho tum meri. Nothing can change that."

"But Raman..."

His cupped her face within his hands, and pulled her close to his chest.

"Ishita please..."

She had been grieving for seven years, but she had been grieving alone. The only person in the world who could share her grief had abandoned her, and so she had abandoned the world. But now life was giving her a second chance. There were still many recriminations, many questions, many explanations to come. But before all that, there was one comfort she had been seeking since the day she had left. She let him draw her into his arms, felt his body shudder as those strong arms tightened protectively around her.

"Raman" she cried as she let her tears drench his chest. "Hamari Ruhi, Raman"

"Shhh" he whispered even as his own tears dampened her head. "We will get through this jaan. If you're with me, we will get through this"

He led her away, their steps stumbling, their arms entwined. There were many things that would need to be dealt with, but that was for another day. Today was theirs. Finally.

Postscript

Aditya Bhalla stood smiling as he watched his papa and Ishima disappear into the lift. Behind him he could hear the angry voice of his mother, the elated balle balle of his dadi. He saw out of the corner of his eyes the angry Alia, the shocked look on the face of Ishima's PG, Ruhi Chopra.

Tears mingled with his smiles as he offered up a quick prayer to Matarani. He knew that the road ahead would not be easy for his parents, but at least they would be together.

He sighed as his mother's angry voice became louder. He had better go deal with that mess Papa had created. As he moved, his foot struck the envelope his father had thrown and he stooped to pick it up.

"Ooof " he exclaimed "Ab ek aur shaadi karwaani padegi papa ki" Unless...maybe there was still some way to stop the divorce. So thinking, he tore open the envelope.

The next moment his face was wreathed in smiles and he started to chuckle loudly.

"Dear Madam (read the letter)

We regret to inform you that your divorce petition by mutual consent cannot be accepted due to your residency status in India. You must re-apply after you have been resident in India for at least 3 months"

Furthermore, the signature of your husband on the form, denoted as "Raavan Kumar' does not match Mr Raman Bhallas signature on the attached identification papers. Please ensure the signature is corrected before you re-submit your application.

Sincerely

Etc""

It looked like papa wouldn't need another trip down the aisle after all.

The End

Aa zara mere hum nasheen
Tham le mujhe tham le
Aa zara mere hum nasheen
Tham le mujhe tham le
Zindagi se bhag kar aaya hu mai
Mujhe tham le
Aa zara mere hum nasheen
Tham le mujhe tham le aa zara

Apni hasti se khud mai paresan hu
Jiski manjil nahi aisa insan hu
Apni hasti se khud mai paresan hu
Jiski manjil nahi aisa insan hu
Mai kaha tha kaha se kaha aa gaya
Kya se kya ho gaya mai bhi hairan hu
Aa zara mere hum nasheen
Tham le mujhe tham le aa zara

Veann your stories are one of the most well written, creative and beautiful ones. Your understanding of IshRa is so profound and deep that it always touches me. I can always imagine it all literally playing out in my head when I read.

I loved how your story plays out here, perfectly describing both the point of views intricately and the way we perceive and understand IshRa. The ending was so well put, and perfect...more than anything so simple. Their outbursts, their own explanations, vents and feelings so well described that I wish I could see the same happen on the show.

The show is depressing right now, and way too negative but even with such a concept you made the best out of it 😳 Such a feel good, wonderful read.
