There was a comment made by one of the cast members of Harry Potter (I forget who, but I think it was Bonnie Wright) that Harry Potter is the book that made children go out there and buy other books.
Couldn't agree more as I was one of those who did the same. I had no interest in reading whatsoever, but HP changed it. It made me want to read more books, especially children's literature - like Charles Dickens, Narnia, Lewis Carroll, etc. And when I think about it, I think it's one of the most precious things in today's world considering I'd like to pass it on to the future generations - there's hardly anything else I can say the same for when it comes to art, music, literature, etc of today. With regards to the books, most of them are woefully written that I doubt they'd stand the test of time. HP is an exception, according to me.
What are your thoughts about the importance of HP in today's times, from a literary perspective? And how do you think the world would view it in 50 years time when compared to the other literary works of today?
