"Stop laughing and complete the test-paper!" I had to shout again. But my student is too impish to care me. She kept on smiling like that. "Now what is so funny about me today?" I lashed my rage on her.

"You are looking so cute bhaiya...Dejected, angry, tragic..." Shivani, my 18 years old student dared to say this to her teacher! What an impudent! "What?" I exclaimed.

"Yup; nowadays you look like a tragic hero of any film. Devdas type... Though you have shaven the beard- it was much fitting, still you look much good in shaved face." She was giving the most mischievous smile! She is uncontrollable! What to do now, I myself had allowed her once to come into my friend-zone and break the stereotype of teacher-student seriousness! It is obvious that she will keep on laughing this way, as I know how I am looking in red, swallowed eyes in a face like owl today!

"You are going to fail in the boards." I declared in vain.

"No way! You are here na?" Shivani told. "Waise mood kharap kyu hay aaj? Itna khichkhich kyu kar rahe ho?" [Why your mood is so bad today?]

She is right. I am venting my frustration on Shivani for no reason. Just like I had vented it on Jodha... just before coming here!

She had come to me... she had come for me... I did not allow her... I did not listen to any of her words... I was just thinking of myself... I have hurt her... Yes, she was hurt- I saw that pain in her eyes but did not care! How am I going to forgive me? The mistake of the moment is killing me from inside... I am unable to stand in front of myself! Why the hell I became so desperate and sadist that time?

At the very moment I started hating myself than anything! Jalal, you used to be satisfied with the thought that you are a great lover- a platonic lover of literature... who live and die for his lady-love without any demand, any reciprocation from her. But actually you are not! You are a completely jealous, selfish and egoistic person! The moment you have heard that your once-upon-a-time girlfriend is no more yours, you are burning in jealousy actually... you are lashing your vain anger everywhere, you are misbehaving with her- only to accomplish your revenge! You have no courage to face the reality... you are a coward; you are heartily jealous and revengeful to a rich man who even does not know your name... and you demand that you have self-respect!

What should I do? Should I try to contact her once after going back? Should I myself ask that what was she going to tell me? Should I say her that whatever be the situation, in my heart I always crave to hear her only?

Am I mad! I gulped to flee that weird imagination. The black Audi guy- Jodha's fianc has come to meet Jodha. Their marriage has become finalized almost. Now I will go to her with my offerings of love? To make fun of myself?

But the flow of thoughts suddenly got obstructed by the remembrance of two intense eyes, a low soothing voice- "If I can wait, why cannot you? All the thoughts again mingled with each-other... A lovely breeze started to air- to take me in my dreamland. I still have my rights of love on her. She told she is waiting... waiting for me. But the black cloud of reality again prevented the happy dreams to fly more. Why would she wait for me? In basis of what she will dare to wait for me? I cannot be so fortunate! I am wrong. It is better for me to be wrong... Maybe the incident was a sudden sentimental outburst of Jodha- but it cannot be the truth of life. I cannot dream her! Neither can I clarify all my feelings...I fear everything will be lost!

"Do you know Bhaiya..." Shivani cannot sit quite for a long time, she started again which broke my thoughts all of a sudden. "Jodha didi had come yesterday. Heard that her marriage is fixed? Really?"

Now what should I answer! The thin trace of hope that had come with all the hesitations again disappeared. Again I understood that I am utterly jealous and selfish! I cannot be happy only for Jodha's happiness; I am getting angry from inside!

"So what should I do??? Complete your work!" I shouted at her.

"No I mean..." she gulped seeing my anger. "You two are friends na, so asked... sorry! I mean... She was too asking about you... She asks very often; so..."

"She was asking about me!" I murmured forgetting the situation. In her age it is very normal for Shivani to get interested in such issues; she will try her best to dig up the secret of our relationship- and for that only she was nagging me from first... She hid her smile and told. "She asks me about you whenever she comes in our house. And also loves to sit here in my study and read the notes that you give me."

I gulped for once to feel normal. Does Jodha really...really...

"Your tea has become cold-drinks Jalal..." Shivani's mother suddenly came in without notice. Though I was quite sure that she has not heard what we were talking about, still I became red. Everything is so much contradicting and strange today!

"Take this Jalal." She handed over the white envelope with her signature smile at the corner of lips. "Thank you." I too smiled and took the envelope.

"I actually had not expected you today." She said. "How was the exam?"

"It was okay. Let's see now!" I chuckled. "Right now any kind of job will be acceptable for me!"

"Yes Jodha too was telling the same..." Shivani's mother stopped suddenly. I kept on staring at her face with sheer surprise... perhaps that stare brought blush in her cheeks and she tried to get rid of the situation. "Let me serve you another cup of tea. This is not worth of drinking now." She told.

"Is Jodha really going to get married aunty?" I could not suppress anymore and opened up like a shameless. Though I regretted at the moment, but it is impossible to take back the pronounced words!

Shivani's mother looked at me and then sighed a little. "Jodha's parents want her to get married soon Jalal." She answered.

She went off. Shivani started to solve the paper again; I covered my face with my palms to get some darkness, some solitary and some peace inside heart!

Just then my cell-phone rang. I was perhaps not in sense to hear the ringtone; Shivani had to nudge me.

"Aapa!" I was quite shocked and tensed as well after reading the name of the caller. Has anything happened with father again? Or Mother...she is also not very well...

"Hello." I picked up with a trembled voice.

"Idiot! Why don't you check the letters before going out?" the teary and angry voice of my sister lashed upon me. But the trace of sheer happiness was not hidden from the voice!

"I didn't get time today. Why, what happened?" I told. "Say na?"

"Come to home right now! From wherever you are!" She commanded.

"But why? What happened aapa?" I was unable to control my excitement. "Of which letter are you talking about?"

"The company where you had applied last time..." my sister was gasping. "has sent you the appointment letter!"

"What! Really?" I jumped up in shout! So loudly that Shivani dropped down her pen!

"Just come home Jalal. Right now! I am... we are so happy! Jalal God has listened to me!" Ammi snatched the phone from Aapa and started crying.

"Yeah yeah I am coming!" I replied back after a moment controlling the jolt of excitement and picked down the phone. "Shivani, excuse me today; I have to go... I will check the paper next day!" I told.

"What happened?" Shivani's mother came in with a new cup of tea. "Whose phone was that? And don't go without taking tea."

I smiled broadly and took the cup from her hand to drink. "It was my sister Aunty. I got a job!"

"Wow!" Shivani shouted. "Congratulations! When are you going to give me treat?"

"First let me read the appointment letter!" I chuckled. "Then I will feed you whatever you want! Oh! I didn't really expect to get this job so early! I am really..."

"Ok ok." Shivani's mother started giggling to see my excitement. "Go now and read the letter first. Many many congratulations Jalal!" She wished me... "Now it is your turn; you have to rise against your fortune!"

I stormed out from the apartment and almost started running towards the main road. Oh! Today I am in such a hurry and now I have to wait for bus to go to home? I was unable to wait! Each and every problem will be sorted out now. We will be able to live our life with self-respect intact! My father will get peace in his intolerable bed; my mother will get back her usual motherly smile; my sister will smile again...everything will be okay in next few months! I was literally in tears to dream the bright future which is not very far from me now!

Thank God I had checked my pocket before going too far. I had left my mobile at Shivani's house. I had kept that on table while talking with Shivani's mother, and forgot to take that!

I had to return back. The door was half-opened; Shivani's father has just reached from office. Husband-wife was having serious talks on some issue.

I was going to knock, but could not... the topic of their talk is me!

"Maybe Jalal has got a good job, but it does not mean that he will shine just by tomorrow and will be able to equate the status!"Shivani's father told. "And so I don't see any chance that your didi will agree to accept Jalal..."

"But the boy is good. We know him from several years." Shivani's mother told.

"Yes; but that cannot be the only criteria for being an eligible husband!"

"But Jodha does love him. What can be more important than this?"

"I understand; but how will you make your didi and jijaji to understand this? An unemployed boy, that too Muslim... which parent will agree to accept him?"

"I don't know. You have to do anything! Jodha had come to me... she was literally crying yesterday! And now Jalal is no more unemployed. Let us have a talk with jijaji tomorrow."

"Your didi will commit suicide!" Shivami's father laughed out.

"You are making fun! However, I don't understand why didi does these. Remember how she sent Jodha hostel just to keep her apart from Jalal?"

"That is quite natural. If you find Shivani to affair with a boy leaving her studies you will kill her. Jodha's parents are kind enough than you."

"I understand. She was an immature school-girl then; she did not have any sense of good and bad. But didi should understand that when she is in love with the same boy even now after becoming totally independent and successful, the relationship was not any infatuation or a joke. Jodha is adult now, she can take her own decision!"

"Your didi, you know better! Well we will talk to them tomorrow. But does the boy, I mean Jalal, also wants her? It may happen that he is not serious enough! And he has plenty things to deal with..."

"I had asked the same to jodha. I was quite unsure about it..." She smiled. "But our Jodha is adamant. She told that Jalal cannot afford not to love her. She believes in her love! Now you can say that she is emotional, but the belief in her eyes has given me assurance than Jalal also loves her... just like her!"

I could not stay anymore... I ran away from there... from the 2^nd floor to ground floor... from ground floor to road... and when I got back into my sense again after walking a long path, I noticed that I have come too far - and just opposite to my destination!
