KaYa SS - Figuring It Out
Part 6
"Coco! Coco! C'mere!" I cried as I ran behind my beloved dog, arms outstretched. He kept running, the cute little thing until he came to a stop near somebody's feet and starting jumping excitedly. I looked up to see who it was.
Looks like it's not just my heart but also my dog that is crazy for Kabir Sharma, I thought sarcastically as I stared at my visitor. Incidentally he was staring at me too, until Coco started scratching at his leg to get his attention. At that he bent down to greet the traitor.
Look at the two, being cute together! Bure! Dono ke dono! I thought as I bend down as well to put the collar around Coco's neck.
"What are you doing here?" I blurted the question that was running in my mind. Kabir looked up at me biting back a smile.
"Andar nahi bulaogi?" He asked, petting Coco. That dog is so putty in his hands! Look at him rolling on his back! I narrowed my eyes at both of them.
"Sure!" I said with a fake smile, then got up and started walking towards the front door adding, "You bring Coco and his stuff in!"
Kabir followed with Coco in one hand and whole lot of his stuff in his other. For some reason he looked amused.
Huh! I told him in uncertain terms how I felt about him, I confronted him about how he felt about me, and now he's here acting all amused at how I'm reacting! Oh he's in trouble! I thought.
"Kya loge?" I asked him sweetly as I washed my hands.
"Coffee." He replied as he washed his hands as I dried mine. I had just turned my back to him when he opened the clip holding my hair together.
I turned around glaring at him.
"What?" he asked innocently, smiling just a little.
I tied my hair up again and walked into the kitchen. Kabir made to follow.
"No! You stay with Coco in the lounge." I told him in my best strict voice.
"Yes Ma'am!" he gave me a salute and a smile and moved to the French window and stared at me as I got to work.
Stupid open floor plan houses! What point was it to send someone in a different part of the house if they still got to stare at everything you did in another?!

I marched over to him and handed him his cup of coffee.
"Ananya yeh black nahi hai-" Kabir started saying but stilled as I gave him a look, "toh kya hua?! Zaroor achi hogi." He said raising his cup.
He took a sip and fought to keep a grimace off his face. Good! I am pleased with myself, I don't think I've ever made a worse cup of coffee in my life; it's excessively sweet and extremely weak, exactly the opposite of the kind Kabir likes.
"Why are you here Kabir?" I asked him straight on.
"To enjoy this wonderful cup of coffee." He ribbed. I wasn't amused.
"Just cut to the chase! You Mr. Clueless were enlightened about our situation pretty clearly today. You are aware where I stand and I'm hoping you've turned up here a little wiser than before. So what have you figured out? Why are you here?!" I asked him.
"You don't mince yours words at all when you're being confrontational. Such clear line of thought!" he observed.
"KABIR!" I exclaimed loudly. "You're killing my patience here! WHAT. DO. YOU. WANT?"
"You!" He replied simply.
I blinked at him.
"What?!"
"I just want you." He repeated.
I think I'm shaking my head cause I'm really taken aback. Surprised, you know.
"Aren't you going to say something?" Kabir asked me bending down to meet my eyes.
He looks adorable doing that! My fuzzy brain provided. This guy is making me go up and down.
"I don't get it-" I tried to start another rant but he interrupted me with an exasperated speech of his own, cupping my face in his hands.
"God! Woman! I'm telling you I want you! In my life! To take you out not only on lunch but dinner dates too, to get even more involved with you, to get more close to you than anybody ever can. To take even more liberties with you than I've ever had! I wanna spend every effing moment of my life with you, and I want to keep the entire band of blithering baboons interested in you away from you, so that I can have you for myself. Just for myself! Now do you get it?!"
I was feeling a little overwhelmed to be honest but I said as casually as I could "I was just saying I don't get it how the dense fool that you were until a few hours ago got to this very astute decision."
He laughed a little. "I received an eye opening speech from this utterly beguiling woman I work with."
I smiled a little. Okay! Fine! I blushed. Lowering my lashes and all!
"God damn it!" he said before he swooped me into his arms and kissed me. Sigh! Why didn't we do this before! I thought as I responded with equal fervor, my hands going into his hair. They are so soft! He tugged at my waist to pull me closer. This is so good! Better than melted chocolate! And I'm swaying now. I'm probably high on kissing or maybe I'm plain dizzy! I tap at his shoulder repeatedly until he draws back.
"I forgot to breathe!" I sighed sagging a bit, touching my forehead and pushing back hair from my eyes which Kabir had let loose once again.
"Ananya!" he chuckled.
"We should probably sit down for a bit." I said leaning into his frame.
"Hmm."
Kabir pulled me down on to the couch with him and noticed a half empty basket of chocolates sitting on the tables.
"You've been upset." He commented.
And he brought the reason why back into my mind. Our troubles were far from over.
"Yes. Where does this leave us?" I asked him.
"What?" he asked confounded. If Mr. Clueless makes a comeback now I'm gonna smack someone. And since no one is around, it's going to be Kabir!
"Shreya Shrivastava! My new job!" I reminded him.
"Well Shreya is out of the picture! She is crazy. You were right. No common ground there. And agar hota bhi toh kuch ho nahi paata because the entire time I was thinking about you. Even when the disaster ended I wanted to complain about it to you." He said calmly.
"If it was a disaster why'd she send you flowers?!" I asked him, half pleased and half skeptical of his reply.
"Actually, I sent the flowers to myself to find out exactly what the office was saying about us." Kabir admitted a bit sheepishly. "Obviously that plan didn't work out."
"Kabir! You're crazy!" I laughed.
"I guess so!" he laughed along with me.
.
.
.
"You're still thinking of leaving?" Kabir asked me after we'd both sobered up.
"Yes. And before you say otherwise. Just think how good a career move it will be for me." I replied placating.
"But what would that mean for us? I mean our works hours, the conflict because of competing channels."
"We'll figure something out. There won't be a conflict; we're both professionals. We'll keep our work to ourselves. And we'll try clocking similar hours." I provided.
"Or we could move in together." He suggested in a trailing voice.
"My father would not approve Kabir."
"So we'll get married." He said promptly.
"Kabir. Slow down! This is escalating way too fast!" I said.
"I've been told I'm old. I can't slow down much anymore." He replied.
"30 is not old." I said brushing his hair back.
"I thought so too." he smiled. "So we'll get married?"
"Kabir we haven't even said we love each other yet!" I exclaimed.
"That's easily remedied. I love you!" he said. "Your turn."
"I do love you and so I won't hit you today but the next time you say you love me say it like you really mean it and not because it's means to an end!" I replied.
"Ananya Kashyap I love you!" he said solemnly.
"There! That's more like it! I love you too." I smiled.
"So we're getting married?"
"Kabir!"
"What! I'm figuring out a solution here!"
"See... I still have a month left at KKN. How about we move in together after I start the new job?" I suggested.
"What about your father?" he asked.
"I just figured, what he doesn't know won't hurt him." I replied.
"You are adorable when you try to be sly!" he complimented.
I beamed at him.
"You know, this is great! Us I mean." He said.
"I know." I agreed.
"And it's going to be so much better!" he said, wrapping his arms around. I sighed happily.
It is going to be absolutely wonderful!
"Woah!" I exclaimed surprised. Coco had jumped on us.
"He feels excluded." Kabir said as he picked him up. He petted his ear affectionately.
"Don't get too chummy with him." I told Kabir. "And you! Stay away from him. He's mine. All mine." I told Coco.
"All yours. And loving it!" Kabir whispered in my ear and tucked me in his side.
Coco, Kabir and I! A few children down the line! It's going to be a wonderful life! And I can't wait!
