This was a very random story idea I got late at night (or early in the morning, depending on your point of view). I was half-asleep when I dreamt this up, so really, it's very, very random. I made Ian read it before posting the first two parts, so she found it funny, so it's not just me then. LOL
When My Focus Ain't Right
Zawra blinked, completely befuddled. Something was seriously wrong with this picture. She could have sworn she had been at home when she had fallen asleep, then ' how in the world was she here? And more importantly, if here was where she thought here was, then it was impossible for here even to exist! She scratched her head. 'Great,' she thought darkly, 'I've managed to confuse myself.'
Her eyes widened though, as Alu made her way to her excitedly, pulling Kunj behind her. "Zaw, what are you doing here? Kunj is waiting for you by the terrace!"
"But," Zaw pointed to the man behind her friend. "he's standing behind you."
Alu rolled her eyes. "Not my Kunj, stupid, your Kunj!"
"My Kunj?" Zaw asked weakly. Then what Alu was saying set in. "I have a Kunj?"
"Of course you have Kunj" Alu looked at her like she was crazy. "Now put on those shoes, he's waiting for you!" She turned to the man behind her, and smiling goofily, asked him if they should go. He gestured for her to take the lead, and followed behind her, like a loyal little puppy.
Zawra was excited, turning to head towards the terrace. She paused though, wondering how she knew where the terrace was. She made a face, deep in thought. Then the sight in front of her registered.
"Oh. My. God," she breathed, not believing her eyes.
And This Whole World Is Going 'Round
Her jaw dropped at the incredulity of it all. How was this even possible? (A voice in the back of her head told her to close her mouth before she caught flies. She did as instructed, wondering why the voice in her head seemed so familiar.)
She stopped someone passing her, and was shocked to see Jerry in a lab coat, distracted and dazed, mumbling something about Kunj syndrome and tests. She let her go, realizing that she would get nothing out of her and watched her make her way to Shakti, who was sitting opposite Sidhant Gupta. Sidhant was hooked up to a number of machines, and both Shakti and Jerry were diligently taking down the results they were getting. Zaw shook her head in disbelief, because while Sidhant was not resisting, she also saw Kunj sitting with Rosh playing with her hair, while Rosh giggled and chattered away to him. Next to Rosh sat Teddy, with Raman maamu giving her a neck massage. And Areeba was sitting with Kunj as well! But then, there were 3 Kunj's. Someone walked in front of her and she blinked. 'Make that 4,' she thought to herself, watching Kunj hand a glass of juice to Griffy.
"This is so weird," she breathed softly to herself. She rejoiced in seeing another friendly face, one that looked as confused as her. "Ian!" She sprang on the other girl, embracing her like she was her last lifeline.
"Zaw?" Ian managed to get out before being suffocated by the crazy girl's smothering hug.
"Ian, you look as confused as I feel!" Zaw exclaimed joyfully. "What's going on?"
"What's going on?" Ian repeated, getting annoyed. "What's going on? I'll tell you what's going on. Yuvi's gone missing again! I tell you, that man," she sighed, shaking her head. Zaw's heart sank. Ian was gone too. "If I didn't love him so much, I'd kill him!"
Zaw nodded, letting the girl walk away, muttering darkly about handsome Indian men, with cheeky smirks and deadly smiles. She sniffed. What was wrong with the world? (What was wrong with the world, her inner voice asked. Once again, she wondered just whose voice she was hearing, because she was pretty sure that was not her voice.)
Loud giggles caught her attention, and her eyes widened when she saw Uma sitting with Priya, Anjum and Ishaan, holding up cards. She moved a little closer, wondering what they were playing so intently and competitively. Ishu's empathetic "Go Fish!" had her rolling her eyes. They were such kids, enjoying themselves when someone had turned the world on its head.
"Zaw," the velvety voice washed over her, and she turned immediately. Zain smiled down at her. "There you are. Kunj and I have been looking for you."
Zawra stared up at him dreamily. Catching herself, she gathered her wits, and replayed his words in her head. "Kunj and you? But Alu just said Kunj," she was confused.
Annoyance flashed across his face so fast that she was sure she had imagined it. "I wasn't here then."
Her hackles rose. Something was up. And she would find out what, even if she had to fight all the men in the world to do it. Pausing at the thought, she wondered just what alternate world she had landed into, because there would be very few worlds where she was not boy-crazy.
