Seeing the promos of SAAWARAIYA and the promotions that are being made by the stars through various music channels, the lead stars Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam being used as the brand promotion agents, re-emphasizes a very particular brand of genetics aka the study of genes. This stream of genetics is known as Epigenetics and it is concerned with the study of how children can inherit and express seemingly new traits from their parents without changes in the underlying DNA. In other words the basic instruction on the gene pool is the same, but there is something else that overrides them.

Viewed from this perspective were one to realize the excitement with which the general public awaits with a bated breath the launch of a star son or a daughter, it would be crystal clear why it happens like that and why the hype around the same is capitalized by one and all associated with the product. This phenomenon is not particular only with the films but is found in nearly all the fields, in which there is a public participation, be it sports, or politics.

Were one to then revisit the performance of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam, through the fleeting glances of the promos of multiple dimensions, the role of genes coming into play would be crystal clear. Ranbir Kappor seems to be carrying the genes of his grandfather, but his approach to the profession of acting has been given his own interpretation which is soaked with the relativity of his mother Neetu Kapoor. Ranbir Kapoor being the fourth generation Kapoor he has in his gene pool the repository of talent from the times of his great grand father. However, the divergence that he is trying to attempt by coming out with new traits does not in any way alter the basic DNA for which this family has been famous i.e. entertainment.

In the case of Sonam she being the second generation of the family, where one to trace the genealogy of the family from her grand father Surinder Kapoor she also seems to be blessed with the street smartness of her father Anil Kapoor which is giving the effervescence and the champagne like persona to her character.

Genealogy indeed is what gives the initial head start but after that it is the expression and capitalization of the new traits, without altering the basic DNA is what holds the star sons and daughters in the reckoning. Those who are not able to express the altered DNA in a forceful manner fall by the way side, while those who are able to do so are able to carve a niche for themselves.

In the case of Sonam and Ranbir Kapoor the advantage lies in the fact that their expression of the new trait has been honed under the watchful eyes of Sanjay Leela Bhansal and this is what may tilt the scale in their favour. After all, the expression of the new trait needs encouragement in the form of mentor who are able to sense it from the very beginning and are able to nurture and foster it.
