Q. What kind of an audience watches a show like 'Naagin'?
A. A lot of rural audience. But everyday, I hear from city people that they are tripping on 'Naagin'. You never know what is going to work when you make a show. I make a 'Pyaar Ko Ho Jaane Do' about two people from different countries falling in love; despite an interesting concept with real people, it doesn't work. Then I make 'Naagin', which is an OTT, shamelessly in-your-face show that proudly deals with Indian folklore and it works! I personally believe that we are no one to decide what the audience wants to lap up at any point of time.

Do you think the Indian audience is not ready for progressive shows?
A. Yes, I can openly say that they are not ready for progressive shows. I have tried it with 'Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh' and I can't even tell you the research that went into it; I really wanted to cry. They just don't want to see a married woman move on even if her husband has made her life miserable.

Q. Will the content on television ever change?
A. Yes, I believe television will change, but it can only happen when the audience changes.

This woman is like a drug dealer who tells sob stories of how messed up her druggie clients are but she's not gonna stop selling them the dope because she's gotta make money. Oh yeah, how horrible of these drug addicts that they keep making her supply rather than letting her pursue something more dignified.

The only way to bring about change is to stop serving regressive content..when u keep serving junk to kids along with healthy options they may keep on picking junk..If u serve only healthy they have to choose from that options...so whatever they eat would be good for them..

People within a system, when told that there is a problem with a system, rarely consider what they can do to change it. They always blame the consumer, as if advertising availability and (in the case of junk food, a good analogy) affordability have nothing to do with it.

ekta is right, she made progressive shows like ajeeb dastaan hai yeh and pyar ko ho jaane do but it did not work. Then she makes over the top show like naagin and it races to the top. she cannot continue to make shows with different concepts if it does not work because she needs to make money, it is a business. In away, the indian audience are not ready to give fresh new ideas a chance. they are stuck to shows like Saathiya, sasural simar ka and diya aur baati hum.

What if Saathiya,SSK and DABH shut down? And all junk shows in that time slot shut down? Will people stop watching TV at that particular time? Or will they get hooked to another show..preferably better one?

There is something called slow and steady change. Like the Bollywood film industry didn't go from being hero centric to having so many female oriented films do well overnight. Gradually the female roles started to increase in terms of importance and length. She can do something that she thinks will appeal to rural watchers as well as being more progressive.

Ekta is right here as channels want trp's and at end of the day its all business. If ppl r not ready to accept the new concepts than why to waste time... show those ghasi peeti story.
There was a show on star plus "Sumit sambhal lega" it was an adaptation from Raymond's show . It had some decent TRP's but what at every Thursday TRP matters so it went off coz of TRP's I guess .

I don't get it. Aren't these the same people who watch and love relatively progressive Pak shows on Zindagi channel?

How come they don't like modern. Indian shows?

Ekta has never made fake claims that she is here to show art, She is here to make money. Whether you like it or not she has been a trend setter for Indian TV.

Through she has mostly had regressive content in her shows, she did try ajeeb dastan which I liked a lot and found refreshing but alas what she says is right. Indian audience is not ready to change and that goes for not just rural or uneducated but even rich and highly educated.
