Track 4 - You Can Count On Me, Bruno Mars

The next few hours were pure torture. Everybody was waiting for Armaan and Jaanhavi to wake up, but neither of them were showing much of improvement.

Finally, after what seemed like ages, but in reality, couldn't have been any longer than an hour, Armaan regained consciousness.

"Oh thank God!" Rahul exclaimed, hugging Armaan tight. They may be boys, and averse to showing emotions, but Armaan had really scared him today.

"You okay?" Rahul asked. Armaan nodded.

"Let me rally the troops then," he joked. Armaan looked at him confused.

"Juhi Ma and Chote Papa are outside," he replied smiling, but sobered up quickly. "And..."

"Riddhima?" Armaan asked, dreading the answer.

Rahul nodded.

"So I wasn't dreaming then?" He asked.

Rahul shook his head. "Afraid not."

Armaan nodded, apprehensive.

"Hey," Rahul said, clapping his shoulder, "It's going to be okay."

"Thanks," Armaan whispered.

Rahul nodded and went out.

The next few minutes were a flurry of activity as people barged in and hugged Armaan. First in line was obviously, pseudo mom Juhi Ma, followed closely by Chote Papa, who Armaan called Dad.

"You sure you're okay?" He asked Armaan as Armaan lay on the bed with his head on Juhi Ma's lap.

"Yes, Dad. I'm fine. You need to relax a little."

"Well, can you blame me? Two of my favorite kids are in the hospital at the same time."

Armaan chuckled. "Don't let Ronnie, Veddy or Shelly hear that," he joked.

"Oh, come on! Rohan knows I love you more."

Armaan grinned.

"Armaan?" Nikki asked tentatively as she came into the room.

Armaan looked up and smiled at his best friend in the whole world. She looked just like she did when he had last seen her. She was beautiful. She was heartbroken.

"Hey, beautiful," he greeted her.

That did it. The dam broke and Nikki could no longer control her tears.

Armaan smiled and opened his arms wide, indicating for her to hug him. Nikki was in his arms without a moment's hesitation, hugging the life out of him.

"I missed you," she mumbled.

"I missed you, too."

"God! When I imagined seeing you again, I did not imagine for it to be with you in a hospital bed, you buffoon!" She said.

Armaan chuckled.

"I'm sorry that I couldn't live up to your high expectations, my lady."

"It's not funny," she told him seriously, pulling back.

"I'm sorry. You're right, it's not funny."

"You scared me."

"I know," Armaan sighed.

"Don't do that again."

"I'll try my best."

"Don't make me laugh! I'm mad at you."

Armaan laughed.

"Well, then. I should make you laugh even more so you can be not mad at me."

"You're an ass."

"Armaan," Rahul interrupted their banter.

"What?" Armaan asked.

"There are others who want to see you."

"Yeah, sure. Let everyone in," he told Rahul.

"Armaan!" Atul came in and made a beeline for him, hugging him tight.

"Hey, Atul!"

"How are you?" Atul asked.

"I'm fine."

Atul looked at him incredulously.

"I promise. I'm fine."

One by one, Anjali, Abhi, Muskaan, Yuvi, Naina, Dr. Shubhankar and Dr. Keerti hugged him.

"Well, it's really good to see you guys!" Armaan said.

"It would have been better to see you if you weren't hospitalized," Padma Aunty commented.

"Oh, come on, Padma Aunty! Expecting that from me is insane. Right, Ma?"

The use of Aunty for her and Ma for Juhi, hurt Padma but she wisely kept quiet. It wasn't her place to expect something like that out of him anymore. They'd been absent from each other's lives for almost 7 years now. Of course, they couldn't fall back into old habits like everything was normal. Plus, he'd called her that when he was about to get married to Riddhima and now... No, Padma reprimanded herself. She wasn't going to dwell on the past. What had happened had happened and no one could change the past, no matter how much they wished they could.

"My boy's strong. So what if it was a little difficult today, it's going to be okay," Juhi said, running her hands through Armaan's hair. He smiled at her actions.

"Thanks, Ma," he whispered. Juhi Ma smiled.

Armaan met with the others, spending time with Navneeta and catching up and playing with the kids. He cooed over Anjali's almost non existent baby bump and congratulated Atul on a job well done.

But, when he saw Nikumbh, Nikki and Abhi's 6 year old son, the dam he was working so hard to build broke and he cried when he took the unsuspecting kid in a tight hug. Nikki had tears in her eyes as she saw her best friend and son talk. It wasn't hard for the charming Armaan Mallik to woo the kid and in a matter of minutes they were talking and playing as if they had been the best of friends forever.

After some time of playing catch up, Armaan insisted on being let off the bed.

"It's been almost an hour, Rahul. We agreed. Rest up for some time and take things easy. That's it. I want to go see Jaan now," he whined.

"Armaan, I've checked on Jaanhavi a few times, okay? And Holly is her nurse. She's sending us constant updates. You should rest for some more time," Rahul insisted.

"Rahul, please."

"No, Armaan. Not now. In some time, I promise."

"Okay. You listen to me, Rahul Grewal. If I say I want to see her now, I want to see her now. You understand?" Armaan thundered.

Rahul sighed. After all these years, he was used to Armaan throwing a fit, especially when one of the girls was concerned.

"Armaan, relax. I know you're worried about her. I am too. But, if you get yourself worked up again, I'll have no choice but to bring you in. You understand what I'm trying to say?" He replied in a calm and collected, but yet eerie and cold tone.

Chote Papa sighed. He knew that this conversation could very well result in a huge argument between his two boys. An argument they couldn't afford now. Not when they needed each other to help them through the accident. He knew that Rahul had the best intentions at heart and he was worried about Armaan, but everyone knew that when it concerned Jaanhavi, all of Armaan's logic went out the window faster than light.

So, he decided to step in.

"Okay, you two. Back off," he said, pushing at their chests to create distance between the two from where they were too close to each other, pointing fingers and glaring.

Rahul stepped back and Armaan sat on his bed when he did so.

"Rahul, I know you're worried about Armaan and that's the reason you're doing this. And that's great, but we'll let him go. Just this once," Chote Papa started. Armaan whooped in joy as Rahul looked horrified.

"But, Chote Papa, he's... I mean... how can you even..." Rahul spluttered.

"Rahul, it's okay," he soothed him, trying to reassure the boy with his eyes.

He then turned to Armaan.

"I'll let you go," he said. "But, you have to listen to what I have to say."

Armaan nodded dutifully.

"You know, I have a son. He's possibly the best son in the entire world," Chote Papa began. "He's taken it up on himself to look after everybody in the family. But, he's so busy in looking after everybody else, he's forgotten to look after himself. Can you please tell him that he start doing that before I lose my mind?" He asked.

Armaan smiled softly on hearing this and nodded. "I promise. I'll look after him."

"Good boy. Then, off you go," Chote Papa said.

"Thank you!" Armaan said, hugging Chote Papa tight before rushing out of the room towards Jaanhavi's room.
