Zayed Khan and Sussanne Khan’s mother, Zarine Khan, passed away on Friday morning at her Mumbai residence after battling age-related ailments. She was 81. Her funeral took place later in the day, with son Zayed performing the last rites as per Hindu rituals. The actor appeared visibly emotional as he carried out the ceremonial process, surrounded by family and close friends.

A video from the ceremony showed Zayed holding a clay pot while being guided by a priest. Many viewers noticed that the rituals followed Hindu customs, which led to curiosity online. For those unaware, Zarine Khan was born Zarine Katrak, into a Parsi family, before marrying actor-director Sanjay Khan in 1966. In keeping with her birth faith, her family chose to perform her final rites as per Hindu traditions.

Nargis Fakhri, Jackie Shroff, Rakul Preet Singh, and others were also spotted extending support to the family during the solemn occasion.
Remembering Zarine Khan
Zarine Khan was a known name in both film and design circles. Before her marriage, she worked as a model and actor and appeared in the 1963 film Tere Ghar Ke Samne opposite Dev Anand. Over time, she became one of India’s early style figures, contributing to the growing fashion and advertising industries of her time.
Though she stepped away from acting after marriage, Zarine remained admired for her work as an interior designer and her calm presence within Bollywood’s elite circles. She is survived by her husband Sanjay Khan and their four children — Sussanne Khan, Simone Arora, Farah Ali Khan, and Zayed Khan.
Her passing marks the end of a graceful chapter in Bollywood’s golden era, remembered for her elegance, warmth, and quiet strength.
