Set in the Universe after their second marriage, when they are on the way to re-discover each other.
Their car halted in front of a busy intersection; the traffic constable ahead was waving his arms and whistling furiously trying to control the heavy and slow movement of vehicles down the road. It was that kind of day and this was one of the busiest intersections in the city.
She sighed as she looked out of the window. He glanced towards her and then hurriedly turned back towards the road.
She sighed once again.
He glanced towards her once again and this time noticed something else. His heart constricted as he realised that she remembered. A flower booth with her favourite white lilies. He wanted to alight but the lights had then turned green and he had no other option but to drive on. He mentally noted to get some for her tonight.
'Tired?' he asked.
'Sort of'' she answered, still looking outside.
'Haven't done this running around for quite some time now.'
He grinned.
They had been to a junior colleague's daughter's Birthday Party - the 8 year old girl had taken to her instantly and had not left her alone. As such, she had to participate in all their kiddies games and all, while he had simply smiled, grinned along from the side-lines.
He glanced towards her briefly - she looked petite and elegant in her cream silk saree, her hair flowing down her back - oh, how he loved weaving his fingers through her hair when they were alone. Her eyes were now closed and her mouth open as she dozed off - all he wanted to do was to lean in and kiss her lightly.
Instead he drove on.
A few minutes away from home, they were met with another traffic signal. Out of all the people crossing the road, there was a couple with a baby boy of around 2 years. She was awake now and he noticed that she was looking at the family intently. The baby was in his Mother's arms and the Father's arm was around his wife, safely guiding them to the other side of the road.
'We have missed so much Nachiket' she said, her eyes misting over.
He shook his head and sighed deeply in turn. He then leant towards her and whispered
'Do you want to relive these moments? We could still become parents - you are so beautiful and sexy and I am so damn handsome and smart - the ideal couple ...'
She laughed at his joke and punched his arm slightly, as she said
'And Mr Handsome, you seem to have forgotten we have grown up kids, the eldest being married.'
He grinned and after a moment winked at her - 'But last night did not feel like we have five grown up kids. It was so beautiful.'
He watched in amazement as she blushed and blossomed in front of his eyes, in an instance, as the implications set in.
They had made love the previous night, the first time after their marriage. He had had to return to US to close on and hand over the medical cases that he was handling there, and had returned to Mumbai only a day before, after being away for nearly a month. While the children had messed around him, yet he did not fail to notice the loneliness, sadness and longing in her eyes. After all, he had technically left her alone once again to manage everything after they had gotten married again a few weeks before.
And once they were alone, he had not wasted time telling her in unequivocal terms how much he loved her and missed her, and that he could never not be in love with her. The dam had burst then and she had cried inconsolably in his arms, and he had then picked her up and carried her to their bed, and then showed her with his body, mind and soul how much she meant to him and how much he loved her. She returned his gesture generously and there were no doubts left in their minds, not anymore.
Later in the night, she had whispered to him about her feelings, emotions, doubts and misgivings as she clutched onto him, and he had held her close to his chest.
Back in the present, she bit her lips thoughtfully as she responded after a few minutes
'Last night was all about finding our ways back to each other Nachiket - about returning home. We have been uprooted for way too long'
She held his glance in his and he smiled in response.
The lights had now turned green and their car sped along. Once they were parked inside their compound, and she fiddled with her seat belt, he placed his hand on top of hers. She looked up as he now snaked his fingers through her nape and angled her head for a kiss.
'I am home, Ragini, WE are home' he whispered as he claimed her lips.
