As per the news item, men are ordered to marry two women or they face imprisonment. Thus we see, polygamy is forced on men by the Government. In that case, we have to accept men who like to marry more than one woman are not to be considered as immoral.
The reason, this type of law comes up is because every society has an unwritten rule that a woman always needs to be protected. And so the law will be such that a woman is always married. But the law never sees whether a man is married or not. When there was polygamy in India in which men were allowed to marry more than one woman, the result was only 40% of men would get married. But almost all the women get married. Probably a woman would consider this way, about a rich man who is already married and has kids, 'That man is rich and he is sexually also sound. Why not marry him instead of risking marriage to an unknown man (who could be poor) and nothing is known about him. Even though that rich man has already a wife, my life will be secured.' This was the reason why there was polygamy in India till around 1950s.
The debate question here is has the Govt: moral right to make this type of law? In that case, one has to accept there is nothing wrong if a man likes to marry more than one woman. In films and in other circles we here dialog: A man is always looking for opportunity to marry more than one woman. If it is true, why punishment is to be made for men not wanting to marry more than one woman or not wanting to marry at all?
