Thnx for posting this stuff .

@bold , This fact was pricking me since I know Ramayana.
Yes there are many things you like or dislike , bt its upto you which side you wanna see.
Ram was not perfect ...He killed Bali standing behind a tree , Isnt it against his principles ?
It is said that he committed suicide after the crowning of his twin sons , isnt it wrong ?
Is he not giving bad idea for the youth to escape from the problems..
there are many things as well ..
but as you said " Either accept it with whole heart or ignore it completely"
we are here coz his personality is more dominating ...
We better Inspire him for that .

Some the readers have responded to this.. so I will just add a couple more points. Of course you can read all these after your board exams... they are your priority right now.
Samadhi is not suicide. There is a world of difference b/w the two.
Samadhi is a yogic practice by which the life (prana) is consciously and voluntarily given up. In suicide the life force desperately wants to cling on and then gives up after fighting a losing battle.
In Samadhi there is a conscious attempt to close the nine openings of the body and life force is directed upwards and piercing the sahasrakara (the top of the skull) gets released from the body.
Such people are called jeevan muktas. In case of a saint who had taken jala samadhi, (the jagadguru of sringeri Mutt) it was noticed that not a drop of water was to be found in the lungs.
The Mahabharata gives a very vivid description of Bhishma leaving the body. Give it a reading after your exams.
And all the best for your boards.

In all honesty, I will confess that over half the terminologies you've used above are alien. Though I do like the grandeur in the show, the script is sometimes tough to bear. There are some scenes where the distortion is clearly visible and it feels like a regular combination of daily soap and a love story. Some scenes are extremely cheesy...so much that I turn my head away. Also I am not satisfied with Shanta's story.
So overall, the show is only in name educating us about the epic. šŸ˜”

Sure... šŸ˜†

In fact I feel its better the elders also watch it along with the kids and youngsters so that they can point out what was in the original, what was the adaptation, etc etc... So that the youth doesnt get carried away by mere presentation...

Yes, this seems a perfect solution. If viewers of this show are younger than 12, they should have an adult watching with them who is well-versed in Ramayana, so that they learn what is accurate/inaccurate and don't believe everything just because it's well-filmed and looks good.

The killing of Shambuka appears in the Valmiki Ramayana, Book 7, the 'Uttarakanda' [Final Chapter], sargas 73-76, in the Adhyatma Ramayana version of Ramayana.

Scholars such as Purushottama Candra Jaina,[2] and John Brockington[3] writes that this story "is of late origin".

Shambuka was a later addition to Ramayana. He was not written by Valmiki, and his story became interpolated into the epic by later scholars in order to use the varna system to justify violence against the lower castes. Many critics and scholars of Ramayana agree that the story of Shambuka in Uttar Kand is most definitely an interpolation, because the verses do not match the rest of the verses written by Valmiki.

Just think this - why would Ram bless Shabari, who was also part of the Shudra community, and eat her half-bitten fruits if he was biased against other varnas? Ram was kripa nidhi, daya nidhi, everyone was the same to him. He removed oppression from Ram Rajya and ensured every single person in his kingdom was taken care of and lived happily. The story of Shambuka contradicts the very essence of Ramayana and is clearly an interpolation.

Agree 100% with all of this. šŸ‘ This is why I'm put off by the show so many times.

I was wondering what is it that compels CVs and PHs to stray so far away from the original epic- be it Ramayana or Mahabharata ? Is it only by distorting beyond recognition that they can "connect" to today's youth ?

Let me confess I haven't even watched one episode of this fiction-serial. A few stray reviews in the beginning and a few stray comments have been enough to put me off.
Why is it so difficult for the makers of any mytho serial(especially a well established one like Ramayana) to stick to the original ? Is it imperative to give a romantic twist to every scene - only then will it catch the attention of today's youth ? Is it necessary to devalue this epic to a rom-com ?
What do you guys have to say ? For instance there are three whole sargas describing the grandeur and the rituals of ashwamedha and putrakameshti yagna.
If for instance some sane CV decides to depict them honestly, with their Vedic significance, will you -the youth- not "connect with it"?
If instead of the make believe Rama- Sita / Laksmana- Urmilla scenes the glory of King Janaka is depicted will you the youth find it "boring" ?
In 15 sargas, Sage Shatananda describes the powers of Vishwamitra. It has more masala than the CVs can ever put together. WiIl you not want to know about it ? Will you not want to improve your knowledge about this great epic ?
I am yet to see a serial which shows Bharata being born on the day after Rama's birth. In all serials four maids come in succession announcing the births - reminiscent of a kindergarten roll- call.
The fact that Ramayana has survived for so many many centuries is sufficient proof of its acceptance. Then why do the CVs need to bring in their own angle completely sidestepping Valamiki's ?
Ramayana maybe a parable on the surface, but there are a lot of Shruti- smriti truths hidden in it.
Will the youth not enjoy if these are highlighted ? Or aren't the youth interested in knowing the real but are content with whatever crap the CVs dish out in the name of Ramayana

Well put Varaali mamšŸ‘I havnt really read any adaptations of Ramayan.Only heard the epic from the elders.Never bothered to watch to watch the adaptations on TV except for the animated RamayanšŸ˜†Have watched few episodes of SKR and felt a disconnect towards the show.According to me,no romantic twist or any CVs added masala is required in the epic. And as a youth,I would really love to watch the sargas that u have mentioned instead of the candyfloss romance. And IMO,why make an attempt to include the make believe romance when it comes to Ram-Sita and Lakshman-Urmila.Their stories are good enough to hear or watch without the unnecessary drama😃
