The legendary romance between Rajput warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan and his beloved Samyogita and the spic battle between the brave king and Mahmud Ghazni will soon come alive on the small screen! Paving the way for the depiction on televison of these memorable chapters in Indian history will be the entry of the 'youthful' avatar of the brave warrior in 'Dharti Ka Veer Yodha-Prithviraj Chauhan', touted as the biggest historical prime time series on Indian television.
Beginning October 27, child actor Rajat Tokas, who has over the last year and a half become the Nation's heartthrob as the valiant and brave child Prithvi, will give way to Anas Rashid, the actor who will play the young Prithviraj Chauhan.
The entry of a young Prithviraj Chauhan will provide viewers a peek into the persona of the legendary warrior who shaped the history of India with his indomitable spirit which saw him win many a lethal battles, all of which have given him an integral place in the annals of Indian history.
The graduation of Prithviraj in the serial, which has in the last over a year given a tough competition to the reality show 'Indian Idol' on Sony, from a child to adulthood has been a much-awaited move by the producers, something which was necessary to carry the story forward.
''We have been trying since June to show Prithviraj Chauhan as a grown up in the serial. This is because the story of Prithviraj Chauhan cannot move forward with Rajat, especially if we have to show a love story between Prithviraj and Sanyogita and their swayamwara and marriage. Rajat is too small to be doing this,''the creative director of the show Meenakshi Sagar, says.
As the drama unfolds, Prithvi is seen fighting for his love and life relentlessly. As he sheds his character as a child, he will face many precarious situations where he will prove his mettle and win lethal battles. The course of the battles, which have been vividly highlighted in the serial, will see the gradual growth of Prithvi into a sturdier and mature person, marking the beginning of an all new personification that the viewers have been awaiting.
Addressing a press meet here, Meenakshi said,''extensive research by Star Plus showed that a majority of the viewers who comprise the target audience for the serial eagerly awaited the growing up of Prithvi as this would take the story forward. Only teenage girls in the 12-16 age bracket said they would not see the serial if Rajat was replaced.'' Given the feedback, the producers had been looking for a new lead for the role of the adult Prithviraj Chauhan.
On the reason for replacing Angad Bedi, who had been originally roped in for the role of the adult Prithviraj, Meenakshi said, ''somehow, we felt Angad did not fit the character of Prithviraj Chauhan. Also, I thought Anas looked very similar to Rajat.''
