Always wanted a South Indian daughter-in-law: Jaya Bhaduri

Acclaimed actor and politico Jaya Bachchan, who was in the city for the inauguration of the Bengaluru International Film Festival, shared with cinema lovers that she had always wanted a daughter-in-law from south India. "Because I see that girls from here have so much culture and such a rich sense of tradition, because I see that women here have tradition. They also carry themselves so well. I'm both happy and proud my daughter-in-law (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is from Karnataka," she said.

On the subject of films, she added that during her interaction with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, she spoke to him on the possibility of restoring Kannada classics. "Bengal already has initiated a film archive. Karnataka could do it too since it has such a rich legacy," said Jaya. And while she waxed eloquent on censorship, the FTII issue, children's films and the advantages of the joint family system, Jaya got a tad miffed when a member of the media was clicking pictures as she spoke. "A classic Jaya Bachchan moment," whispered someone.
