Life's all about moments, of impact and how they change our lives forever. Have you ever wondered how one significant moment like a single day can alter the course of our life? Suddenly you end up at places you never expected. That's the thing about moments like these, you can't no matter how hard you try control how it's going to affect you. You just have to accept things and wait for the next moment to change your life.
Both of them came from different worlds no one knew they would end up together but people who are meant to be always do. 6 years ago on that fateful day both of them had met not knowing that they will significantly change each other's life. As first meetings go theirs was pretty normal. It was the first day of college and Twinkle Taneja was late. Twinkle was a vivacious and bubbly Punjabi girl. Her friends had nicknamed her Punjabi phatka as she was really lively and animated. She was the eldest daughter of one of the richest families in Amritsar. The Taneja's owned most of the textile industries in Amritsar. Twinkle had no interest in the family business she secretly loved baking and wanted to go to culinary school but her mother Leela Taneja wanted her to enroll in business school. So here she was at St Andrews and apparently she was really late. It seemed like the orientation ceremony had already finished as refreshments were being served. She tried to look for Mrs Nita who was one of the faculty member's and her mom's friend. She spotted her standing in a group of people on the other side of the room. She dashed towards the other side without paying attention to her surroundings. She collided with a really tall guy who was wearing a white shirt which was now covered in coffee stains.
"App dekh kay nahi chal sakti" The guy exclaimed
"I am really sorry main saaf kar deti hun" She said and grabbed a handful of tissues from a tissue box. She roughly started to wipe the coffee from his shirt.
"It's pointless meri toh nai shirt kharab hogayi. Pata nahi iss saal kesisay log ahagaye hain college main" The guy said
"Oh Mr White shirt I already said sorry but don't you dare try to insult me. Nai toh mujh say buda koi nahi hoga"
"App pehaly he meri nai shirt kharab kar chuki hain woh bhi college kay pehlay din. App mujh say mili hi kyun lagta hain mera pura din kharab jayay gay" He said
"Dekhay Mr White shirt..."
"White shirt abb toh yeh brown hogayi hain thanks to you" He interrupted her in the middle
"I am sorry is there any way I can make it up to you?" She asked
"How about you get me another coffee Miss?"
"Twinkle Taneja" She replied
"Oh like the star Twinkle Twinkle little star" He teased her
"App ki shirt ki tarah app ka sense of humor bhi sada hua hain Mr Brown shirt"
"Come on let's start over after all you owe me coffee. Hi I am Kunj, Kunj Sarna. I wish I could say it's nice to meet you but it's pretty evident from my shirt's state that it isn't" He said
"You already know my name. See you later" She walked away
"You too hopefully with coffee" Kunj called after her. She had heard him but kept on walking she could not stop herself from smiling. It was an interesting day indeed and this was only the beginning.
Kunj Sarna did not belong to a rich family he belonged to a middle class family. His mother had died when he was young and his father and elder brother had looked after him. He was really good friends with his sister in law Nikki. His nephew Ishan had made their household more joyful. Kunj came to business school because he wanted to set up his own business. A rec centre which would cater towards different forms of art like music and painting. He occasionally used to play the guitar and paint avidly.
Kunj gazed at her retreating form there was something about this girl. She had come into his life literally like a whirlwind and knocked him over. Thus their story began a story full of happiness, joy, laughter, sadness and sorrow. However one thing was certain whatever happened these two will always find their way to each other.
6 years later, (A day before Twinkle's Birthday)
Kunj was running after Twinkle in the rainy august night on a road in Mumbai.
"Twinkle ruko kaha ja rahi ho" He called after her
"Tum meri peechi kyun ahayay?" She stopped at the sidewalk
"Arey it's your birthday dinner aur tum he restaurant she bahir nikal ahayi" He still had the cake cutting knife in his hand.
"Tum nay uss ko kyun bulaya Kunj?" She asked angrily
"Kisko" Kunj tried to appear confused
"Zyada bano mat tum jantay ho main Maya ki baat kar rahi hu" She said
"She is my friend Twinkle" He explained
"So what was she doing at my party?" She asked
"Yar she helped me get the reservation for the restaurant abb main kiya karta"
"Hah tum toh kuch kar he nahi sakti tumhara zor toh sirf apni biwi par chalta hain" Twinkle said
"Twinkle dekho abb tum khud apna bday spoil kar rahi ho" Kunj said pointing the knife at her
"Main spoil kar rahi hu aur woh bday yad hain tumhay jis main you brought that nuts wala cake and I ended up in the hospital as I was allergic to nuts" She reminded him
"Twinkle that was five years ago. Let it go tum pagal ho" He rolled his eyes at her
"Obviously I remember that was the first bday I celebrated with you." Twinkle said
Kunj was about to say something when suddenly a police man who had seen the knife in his hand came in between him and Twinkle.
"Kia ho raha hain. Larki ko chaku deka kar dara rahay ho" The police man asked
"Nai sir yeh meri biwi hain aur ajj iss ki bday hain toh yeh toh cake kay liay hain" He tried to explain
"Cake kidar hain I don't see it" The police man asked
"Woh toh restaurant main hain Sir. Twinkle tu kuch bol na bata na inko'' He said
Main kia bolo according to you main toh pagal hu right" Twinkle said
"Twinkle tu na had hoti hain"
The police man were dragging him away.
"Ruki inspector yeh saach bol rahay hain yeh meray pati hain" Twinkle addressed the officer
"App dono please apnay issues road kay bajay ghar par solve karay" The police man instructed and drove away
"Sach main siyaypa queen hain tu abb chalay sab humra wait kar rahay hain" Kunj said
"Mujhay ghar jana hain please just take me home"
"Acha theek hain tum idhar ruko main ghadi lay kar ahata hun" Kunj said to her
The entire journey back to the Sarna house they were silent. Recently both of them had started fighting a lot and it had put a strain on their relationship. Kunj hoped they would be able to move on from that incident 6 months ago but ever since then he could sense Twinkle had been distant. It felt like she was living in her own world where he did not exist.
They reached home. As they entered all the light were switched off suddenly they light were switched on and the entire Sarna family started singing the birthday song for Twinkle.
Ishan ran up to Twinkle and said" Happy Birthday Chacci"
"Thank you baby. Bhabi yeh sab karnay ki kia zarorat thi?" She asked
"Arey its your birthday toh celebration toh banta hain. Aur hum nay konsa party throw ki hain bas yeh cake kaat lo" Nikki pointed towards the cake
Twinkle thanked everyone and cut the cake.
"Give the first piece to your favorite person in the house" Nikki said
Kunj thought she would put the piece in his mouth but instead Twinkle gave the piece to Ishan. Seeing this Kunj walked away angrily.
"Oho tum log nay ajj bhi jaga kiya" Nikki asked
Twinkle did not respond it was her personal matter just than the phone rang.
It was Twinkle's mother Leela on the phone. Nikki picked it up.
"Leela aunty app khair hain itni raat ko call ki"
"Hah woh Twinkle kidar hain mera phone nahi utha rahi"
"Twinkle aur Kunj toh uss ka bday celebrate karny bhair gay hain. Busy hogi iss liye app ka phone nahi uthaya ho ga" Nikki lied
"Chalo theek hain ussay kehna mujhay call karlay wapis aha kar"
"Bhabhi ap nay maa say jhoot kyun bola?" Twinkle asked
"Twinkle agar woh tum say baat kerti toh unhay pata chal jata kay ajj bhi tumhara aur Kunj ka jhagra hua hain. Phir woh pershan ho jati" Nikki explained
"Yeah you are right thank you for the surprise good night bhabi"
She walked towards her room. Kunj was still standing outside
"Tumhay meri bilkul parwa nahi hain na. Ajj mera worst bday tha woh hospital walay say bi buda" She said
As she walked into the room she was shocked to see the entire room decorated with balloons and pictures of her and Kunj's time together. There was also a plate of Nutella pastries on the side table. Nutella was her favorite flavour.
"Kunj tum nay yeh sab kab kiya?"
"Teray restaurant janay kay baad iss liay I asked Maya to call you earlier par abb kia fida tera toh yeh worst bday hain na" Kunj ignored her and went to the bathroom to change.
She waited for him to come outside. She heard the door opening so she quickly opened a novel and started reading it she did not want him to know that she was waiting for him. Kunj looked at his wife she was so cute in her haste she didn't realize that the novel was upside down.
"Kia kar rahi ho?" He asked
"Dik nahi raha katab padh rahi hu" She said
"Hah padh kitab toh ulti hain" Kunj pointed at the novel. She realized her mistake
"Main who main"
"Mujhay sab pata hain tum mera wait kar rahi thi. Tu sach main jhalli hain"
'Kunj Sarna tumnay mujhay jhalli ka abhi batati hu tumhay' She said and threw the nutella pastry at him
It landed on his shirt and now his night suit was covered in Nutella and chocolate.
"Yar humesha meri hi shirt milti hain kharab karnay kay liay"
"Sorry Kunj I am really sorry" She apologised
"Koi baat nahi siaypa queen yeh toh tumhara style hain happy birthday" He smiled at her
Twinkle looked at her husband covered in sticky chocolate and it reminded her of their first meeting. She had spilled coffee on him and everything had changed after that.
She embraced him in a tight hug
"Arey tumharay kapray kharab ho jayay gay" He tried to push her away
"Koi baat nahi. I love you Kunj" She refused to let him go tightening her hold on him
"I love you too. Happy Birthday"
Both of them did not know what tomorrow had in store for them. There was a storm brewing and both of them would be caught right in the middle of it. Another day another moment that would change everything.
