"Hi! How may I help you?" He smiled, flashing his pearly whites at the young female customer.
"Umm.. May I please get a small mango smoothie along with the turkey sandwich?" She inquired.
She didn't have to be so polite. She was here to purchase food and he was there to take the order. A simple process that will be repeated multiple times throughout the day.
"Sure." He answered as he punched in the order onto the screen. "Will that be all for today?" A smile came onto his lips when his eyes met hers.
She beamed and looked down blushing, answering, "Yes."
"Would you like your meal for here or to go?"
It was a formal procedure but there seemed to be a hint of stalling in the tone.
"For here." She answered after a brief moment of hesitation.
"Okay, your final total will $6.75."
"Will be paying by credit."
Punching in the appropriate button, he said, "Please go ahead." Gesturing towards the machine.
She nodded her head and inserted the plastic. She punched in some digits with her powder pink finger nails.
"Uhh, it doesn't seem to be working." She stalled, appearing to be confused as she looked at the small screen.
"Do you want to try again?" He asked softly, watching the red hue appear onto her neck.
"No, I'll pay by cash."
She took out her card and put it back in her little wallet. She took out a colored bill and handed it to him. He accepted it with the tip of his finger touching hers very briefly. He felt the small crevices etched onto the flesh of her finger.
He punched in the amount that was given and took out the appropriate change that was required. He placed it into the palm of her hand. It was warm and her eyes were soft. The exchange was brief but it had left them wanting something a little more.
She smilingly accepted what he offered and walked away to get her meal.
Their eyes met and lowered once more blushing.
