The Indian cinema was pretty liberal pre 1947 until the false modesty and bharatiya sabhiyata hypocrisy kicked in. Now you can see its getting worse when kissing in colleges or celebrating valentines day can land you in trouble.

Kissing was big thing that time
Since Mahest Bhatt started producing movies kissing became a normal thing.

Now movies like Masstizade kuch aur age chalegaye

I thing it was big thing before 10 years

Raj Kapoor pushed the boundaries way before his time. Also I forgot the names but there has been many pre partion time movies which was quite open. Women drinking, having a cigar, extra martial affairs, clubbing, and kissing is quite prevalant in those time movies.

As far as I am concerned, Kissing was always around. Ive seen it in the 80's, 90's...its always been around so yeah.
