Banker's Ramayan!

Hello All,

New to the forum...watched bits and pieces of the show on and off...yesterday's was the first episode that I watched in its entirety. Will continue to watch regularly now.

I don't know if the script is based on any particular interpretation of the epic or if it is derived as an amalgam of multiple versions!

I am not familiar with the ancient texts. So no idea about the accuracy or otherwise of what is being shown here.

One of the best modern day retellings of the Ramayan in my opinion has been the one by Ashok Banker ...I loved the series ! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's interested in reading a retelling.

Really looking forward to seeing the Ramayana unfold through Siya's eyes!

@Bertie it is an amalgam of many stories, including literature and folklores. It is not strictly Ramayana. For me the show gives more importance to humanity than divinity in the central characters. Since I am a rational person I am fine with as long as the message coming out is correct.

Costumes are a bit let down as it looks somewhat modern than that of those era, especially the dresses of the ladies. Otherwise I am fine.

Actually Shruthi...that is what attracts me...although Ram was an aspect of the divine, it was the human avataar that the epic spoke of...so I am quite interested in watching a rationalized/ philosophical interpretation rather than a purely religious/ mythological one! I liked Banker's retelling primarily because he humanized Ram without taking away from his divine aspect!

The human conflicts encountered by the avataar are of interest to me...!

And since there are so many versions of the Ramayana, I would personally not want to get into distortions so long as the broad story remains the same...details may vary from version to version..!

Actually Siya's look put me off to begin with..it had a very Bollywood feel to it...they could have done something more interesting, keeping the period element intact...! The male characters as a whole seem to be better presented in terms of their look!
