Yes Vikarna was there in the intro scene of Duryodhan. Duryodhan was fighting with a tiger (He had placed a man with the tiger and was trying to kill the tiger before the latter eats the man) After he finished this fight and defeated the tiger Vikarna approaches him and Dury tells him the reason why he always fights with a tiger.
A total OTT scene but at least one good thing that Vikarna was shown as a sweet innocent child who is fascinated by his brother.

I agree the show in childhood was a fan fiction, Dury was born by Karna's help and what not. I only watched the show once in a while, but I really wanted to see Dury's introduction scene as I was praying that they show KD relation of pure friendship and not Dury using Karna like in StarBharat.

I liked your line you started watching when "Mahabharat Type" things started 😆😆

Although I doubt even if it is Mahabharat type.

I really hope they don't butcher Vikarna.

BTW I still do not understand the relation of Dury n Karna. Are they showing true friendship or Dury using Karna?

Thanks for the update on the scene. It was a fanfiction then and it is no different now because so many things are being shown wrongly in an attempt to glorify karna. Thanks, but it can't be termed as mahabharat type as you said. 😆
I am also hoping the same.
Regarding karna-dury even i am not sure of anything. Its a complicated relation if you ask me. Though it is mostly using i suppose. And karna always seems to stand up and go against his friend to save pandavas, krishna and panchali. Be it lakshagrah, saving drau from shishupal and now DS too. He is always so keen on saving his brothers. But i think more of his rivalry is against shakuni ,even more than arjun! And on dury's part, karna sometimes becomes a mitra and sometimes an asset.

This is a very thought-provoking post. Thanks for making it Ramya
Firstly I would say that Shakuni is the MOST misunderstood character of the epic.
In EVERY damn show he is shown as the eternal villain but he was not.
He was an uncle who loved his nephew very much.

The only things in which he is involved are Bhima's poisoning n Dyut Sabha. In all other conspiracies...he was either passive or not involved. Although most others have already mentioned all the points...I would like to create points.

* The whole imprisoning of Subala n his hundred sons by Bhishma is a folktale.
The revenge story is not part of the epic.

*He did not cheat in dice game...the dice may have been made out of his father's bones...but they were not magical. That is just justification of Yudisthir's mistake

*He never insulted Draupadi in the DS.

*After the Pandavas came back from exile...if I am not mistaken, Shakuni had asked Duryodhan to return their land or accept the five-village deal(I dont remember which one). This is something which is never shown.

And another thing. The whole limp story is probably fake. If I am not mistaken...there is NO mention of Shakuni being limp. I distinctly remember having read in Mahabharat forum...that the actor playing Shakuni in BR Chopra's Mahabharat had fallen down from a horse while shooting n injured himself.
Thus he started limping in the show.

This limp became so famous that it was assumed that Shakuni used to limp.

I am not sure how true the story is...but just of posting it here...😊

Thanks Amrita di. Yes, shakuni is widely misunderstood. He had his flaws but he was not a big villain in any way and neither were Dury and Dushi as they are being shown here.
Some even doubt his involvement in Bheema's poisoning as Jamy said.
Yes, that revenge thing is nothing more than folklore. The reason why i included that is because they showed a fake story to justify shakuni's limp in SPK.
Hmm, quite possible that it was made as a justification to Yudi's mistake.🤔
Yes, he did not insult draupadi directly. That part was done by Dury, Dushi and Karna. But he indirectly made Yudi wager her which wrong on his part.
No, i don't think he asked Dury to return pandava's land. Let me check my book and tell you this. I think it was Dhrit or Gandhari who did that.
@bold-This is definitely new to me. Then it does sound silly. But as far as i know there is no mention in the entire mahabharat that shakuni limped. But i thought this was folklore again.😛

I dont know about Goofi Paintal's accident in the set, but am sure /i never heard of Shakuni limping in any of the forklore as well.
In my childhood my nani used tell me the story of Ramayan n Mahabharat which aroused my interest in the epic. I started reading various versions, forklores etc and then used to proudly proclaim that I have more knowledge than most in my generation (unless of course I came across these forums 😛)

Anyway but then my nani generally told a lot about the forklores like Andhe ka putra andha dialogue(yes there is a forklore with that), Niyog being just watching of Ambika, Ambalika and Vidur's mother (sorry I dont know her name) by Ved Vyas ji etc stuff. But even if her stories (which were hugely biased towards Yudi and team) Shakuni was not this evil and definitely not limp

But in the revenge story, he creates a permanent wound on his foot that would remind him of his brother's and father being killed and maybe that is why he limped. Not sure, maybe the accident thing may be true as well.
