I am completely in agreement with you that content on S2 sucked, there is no discussion on that. The discussion here is how Nitis comment is compared to entire content of S2, which really shouldn't even be compared. The fact is Niti liked Karishma's working style and her effort to give equal screen space to all actors, she appreciated that piece of Karishma's work. Its not about if Karishma being a good script writer or not, or if her content was good or not, or the characters were justified or not, that's not even related to Niti's comment!
Siyali, although I flippantly commented on the basis of what I read on twitter and here, I finally heard her interview and I agree with you. She was commenting on her working style which seemed to be more involved and less stressful for the actors. One has to admit that there were far more episode banks in season 2 than in season 1, although it may have come at the cost of mediocrity. With a buffer, an actor is able to take more offs when he/she requires. So her comments were strictly based on her comfort level with the creative, cast and the show in general.
When RY was at the helm, they were mostly shooting cut to cut. RY, being a perfectionist, may have been more demanding. She also had a bigger creative team, with exclusive dialogue writers, screenplay writers, script supervisors and story developers, which would mean that the decision making process may have been more time consuming, especially when there was also a parallel team from the channel, whose approval also needed to be taken before the episodes could be aired. There were rumoured conflicts in creative thinking between the creatives of the PH and those from the channel. This means more time and effort in getting the scenes OKed and shooting them. If I am not mistaken, there were instances when scenes had to be reshot because of script change. While all this did a world of good for the show, which benefited hugely from the tight and well executed scenes which were intricately interwoven (at least till the first 100 episodes or so, as was the original plan), it may have been quite draining on the cast who were endlessly shooting.
When the viewers developed a strong love for Manan, the show focused on them, devoting at least 12-15 minutes of the 20 minute episode to them. This allowed the writers to develop their story well and the scorching chemistry between the lead pair took care of the rest. While the actors got immense popularity because of Manan, it also meant long and grinding hours of shoot for the leads. It may have been more stressful for Niti because of Parth's long spells of leave, which meant double shift to complete their scenes together before he could go. It is a well known fact that the girl hardly got a couple of days off every six months or so while her co-star managed to get a couple of weeks off during the same period. When he was away, she may have had to shoot her scenes with the other cast because Nandini was connected to each and every character in the show. Her work atmosphere may have been vitiated by her co-actor's indifference and insolence. There were references to his late comings not only by her but also others like Ayaz and Charlie in interviews. All this may have taken a toll on her health. Offscreen drama made things difficult for her. While both actors were subjected to bashing, their ability to take it differed, with Niti being more sensitive and emotional. So while she was getting a lot of accolades from the viewers, she may not have been truly enjoying her work.
In comparison, Karishma cut down on the size of the team, got more involved in innocuous stuffs, which for a person like Niti was very important. Finally someone heard all the rant about her wardrobe and gave good fashionable clothes. Less stress mugging up lines since for the most part of the season there was no exclusive dialogue writer and it seemed the actors were making up their own lines. Parth wasn't there for most of the season when Karishma was there. Even after he returned she was not asked to lock lips with him. Even the hugs were few and far between, so she didn't have to put on the facade of loving the man in front of her. It is another matter that viewers felt completely disconnected with the show.
In all this, I sympathise, although I cannot empathise with her. The girl did indeed have a rough (and bumpy as she puts it) ride, sometimes for no fault of hers but it did give her a lot. If today she is rubbing shoulders with the bigwgs of the industry, it is thanks to the labour of love of that woman who despite being a hard task master (or should I say because of being one) managed to extract the best from the cast and crew. Yes, she profusely thanked all the fans of the show for loving her and placing her where she is but these fans would not have loved her character, and by extension her, had it not been the delicate balance of strength and innocence in Nandini which RY was able to showcase through her.
Karishma may be a good and involved creative but she is not cut out for youth romance, particularly one that rocked Indian T.V. To me a good creative is one who is able to bring out the best in an actor and that RY was able to do which Karishma wasn't, despite (or may be because of) her genial ways.
Have to give it to her for candidly admitting that her work got affected by the offscreen drama and she tried to move ahead when she realised it. This girl is very outspoken and wears her heart on the sleeve. This gets her into trouble at times, particularly when she acts shallow and frivolous. To her credit, she accepted that in this industry one cant complain about long working hours once you have accepted a daily soap. She has, by and large, not been the complaining kind but then sometimes she needs to be bit more circumspect about what and how she voices her opinion if she does not want to be misconstrued.
On closing I would say that when it comes to Parth, one has to read between the lines as the guy is too evasive and when it comes to Niti, one needs to ignore half her gibberish for she tends to blabber a lot.
Case of Pa being deep and Ni, shallow. No wonder we get so much turbulence when it comes to PaNi.
