I can't help staying silent on this anymore.. It's too sad to see how films and actors become political pawns! Bans based on baseless propaganda.. Holding films ransom just before they release so that publicity can be garnered for certain agendas by forcing a producer to their knees.. How does no one speak up for what is right? How is this fair? People think films r just fun and games to make?! They r made with blood sweat and tears for entertainment!! Pls stand by the filmmakers who put in their life's money and hard work to make people laugh and smile. Don't let them be blackmailed and threatened by holding their films ransom just before release. Speak up before if there is an issue!! Everyone has a right to an opinion. The timing right before release just seems very suspect!! I know I may get into trouble for saying all this but I can't be a silent witness to character defamation based on opinions anymore.. That is not what, the India I grew up, taught me.

Bajirao Mastani controversy: Bhansali's effigy burnt in Pune!

Bajirao Mastani is on its verge of its release this week, on December 18. However, the film is mired in controversy over its subject; the most recent being a protest held in Pune.

According to a report on Pinkvilla.com, the descendants of Peshwa and Chhatrasal dynasty had organized a protest at Shaniwar Wada on December 12 against Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming period drama which stars Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. The protesters had gathered at Shaniwarwada, the ancestral capital of Peshwas to condemn the promotional videos and songs of the movie, which according to them, distort the history.

A release issued by the protesters states that the trailer and promotional videos of the movie prove that it is an attempt to distort the historical figures of Maharashtra and Bundelkhand, requesting the concerned people to remove these trailers and the objectionable content from the movie, which does not comply with the actual history. Reportedly, the protest was led by Undaysinh Peshwa, the descendant of Peshwas, who was joined by Kothrud's BJP MLA, Medha Kulkarni, the descendant of Chhatrasal and other old faithful. On the occasion, the protesters burnt an effigy of Bhansali and shouted slogans against the movie.

The protester gave a brief account of the history and said that when Bundelkhand was attacked by Muhammad Shah Bangash, Chhatrasal Bundela, who was 80-year-old at the time of the attack, asked Bajirao Peshwa to intervene. Bajirao defeated Bangash, and was offered Mastani's hand by Bundela, her father. She came in Bajirao's life in 1722 and died in 1740. However,Bhansali has twisted the facts and it is not acceptable as it hurts sentiments."
