Of Fandoms and Hypersensitivity

Hi beheno, most of you here know me as that kid who loves trivializing things for sake of good ol' humor. Much to my chagrin I lost a bit of the ol' guy today.
I have loved IPKKND to the extent of obsession, we all have, haven't we? It was one hell of a show despite all the hiccups, hits and misses and most importantly despite being a prime time daily soap on Indian TV that too on a GEC we have most unflattering opinion of.

And how I hate that it gets reduced to Sanaya Vs Barun. Who was better, whose fans are better, so on and so forth. It rankles further to see people choosing to say hurtful things on pretext of stating opinion. Let's not get into who started it, it takes two to tango.

IPK was team work. Neither were the actors above script nor was the script all that there was to the show. It's all ingredients put together and in proportion that make a good recipe. Somebody had an idea, a team decided to conceptualize it, they worked on developing a script, they judiciously chose the actors to play a motley of characters, somebody wrote the screenplay, another wrote the dialogues. Then there were the directors, their vision and the actors and their interpretation. And it all fell into place. All of them put their best efforts, is it really necessary to discredit the efforts of one to glorify another?

We all have our favorites, it's only natural. Different things appeal to different people. For instance the first character that appealed to me was Manorma mami. Eventually I started loving all. So it's pretty obvious that some would identify more with Khushi while to others ASR would be more attractive. And then there'd be the ones who love them both equally.

But why this fight over my opinion is superior to yours?

Regarding IPKEJ. Let's face it, it was a business move by the channel. Nothing magnanimous about it. And it wasn't exactly a quality product. But I realize that's too much to expect. And also a little unfair to blame the actors for it.

It was all shot in a single day and most probably even written and arranged on the same day. Second day as I hear was the promo shoot. Rome wasn't built in a day, IPK is not Rome but I wouldn't expect them to deliver class when all they have are a few hours of a day. In that time space for them to get into character, memorize dialogues and deliver. Is it that easy?

And above all did we not see how unimaginative and uninspired the script was? What do we expect an actor to deliver with that kind of insipid script? And can we blame even Gautam Hegde and Janki V for this? They work on 5-6 shows simultaneously where they have to deliver an episode every single day, they at best had an hour or two to put together this script.

That's sadly how TV works. Makers aim for saleable product not quality product because audience are lapping up all that is being dished out. There's a lot of complacency on TV that forces many actors to move out and look for avenues where they feel they can explore their skills better. And on this very forum an actor is constantly mocked for making such a choice.

Anyway, the point is why spread hate? Why hold grudges? Do they take us any where? All they do is leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth and tarnish good memories of a much cherished show.

I have loved this forum, I got to meet fantastic people, made a lot of friends. Read some brilliant authors. Can we not keep up the optimism, the positive attitude? Can we all not at least try to do away with the bitterness and rivalry?

PS: Also I'd like to add, I didn't find Jashn to be entirely worthy of trashing. There were moments here and there that were beautiful and struck a chord. A musical chord.

I totally agree with your post.. in fact what you have written is completely true and absolutely bang on! Yes, as you remarked Jashn did have its moments and if not for any, let's cherish those teeny weeny moments!!

Archana behen 🤗 so good to see you. Thank you.

I do understand we all tend to get a bit too sensitive when it comes to our favorites but this constant rivalry among fans of two actors who are themselves such good friends and discrediting one to glorify another kind of hurts. Of course some of us would be more inclined towards one but does that justify hating the other?

What a wonderful post 👏👏
Agree with each and every word you said.
These people had moved on. They had started enacting different characters, yet they all came together.
Why , because they miss each other? Nah. They meet each other almost every day.
To earn money? Nah. they are already doing it.

But they all came together to give us a closure that all the fans demanded.
To celebrate the show that all the fans loved.
To give us fans a glimpse of the lives of Arnav and Khushi.

Yet instead of praising them , why are we getting into these fights. Mocking, bashing, criticizing. Its just a matter of few days. Keep your venomous opinions to yourselves and let people enjoy whatever they want.

Frankly i consider myself lucky that i got to see the happily ever after of Arshi.

Like i said in other thread, each fandom behaves the same way yet choose to blame the other one. Wish everyone stops with the hypocrisy.

Thank you for this post again.

Ok, I am one of those that likes both the actors. One more than the other at different times. I don't "get" fandom wars. I love the show more. Why people should be so negative just because of difference of opinion, & that too over celebs who don't even know you exist, is beyond me. Naive me had initially tried to pacify & stuff, but I have learned now. I just look the other way when I don't like something. Tolerance is a rare thing off late in open forums. The abuse of anonymity. You can get away with being vicious to fellow people, all for the sake of a celebrity. Nope, never made sense. And, I wonder what the actors have to say about this. It would be interesting to see whether they find it flattering that their friend is being bashed by their own fandom, all in their "defence".
But on a different note, YOU have been wonderful. It is reassuring to see someone with a balanced mind on this forum. Really. So, yes. I am not much of a hugger, but hugs to you. :D

Thank you behen!

I was initially rather perturbed with Jashn as I honestly found IPKKND after the remarriage to be like slow poison. Even the makers said that Story has run it's course. I was fearing that it might turn out to be just like that.

Yeah it wasn't anything great but wasn't too bad either. I frankly enjoyed many bits of it. Grinned through some scenes and even swooned at some dialogues. So I wouldn't call it a bad experience.

Hugs to you Sayari 🤗 Have we ever interacted before?

And thank you so much. And yeah I saw that post and felt very happy. I have been on this forum for a long time now, I wasn't much active when I first joined but I have had an opportunity to read a lot of posts.

While the positivity and spirit of some enamoured, I have also witnessed blatant hypocrisy. But at the end of the day, the show and the forum has given us enough positive to overshadow the negativity.

Thank you so much. And I agree, the actors too know how much the show is loved even after 3 years and how the fandom continues to expand. It was a thanking gesture on their part. Which was sweet. And the avid fans did get something which I any day better than nothing.

The fights tarnish the good memories. I have had a phase where I was fed up and just wanted to move on from the mess. But then I thought they weren't worth it.

Thank you, it's such a pleasure to come across members who look for the positives.
