Happy Reading.
"What were you doing in that Coffee shop with a guy?" Arnav angrily asked, holding her arms tightly.
"What the hell! Leave me hands, Arnav!" Khushi yelled, struggling to break free.
"I am asking you something Dammit! We have been married for 2 freaking months! You do not even allow me to touch you but you have the want of roaming out with other men without telling me." He bit out.
"It's nothing like that, Arnav. Let it go."
"Why should I let it go! It must be hard for you I know but it is equally hard for me. Don't act like you were made to sacrifice your whole life."
"Yes! I will only think like that! I was made to sacrifice my whole life, every bit of it! I am spending a normal day and your sister and Nani turn up at my gate claiming me to be their long lost Bahu! Would someone believe it?! A bloody bahu, something I was not even aware of. Then they literally beg me to come to this house and start acting as a wife of a man I did not even know. A man who till that day I have only heard to be the most arrogant and ego filled man of the country! When I refused they had all the proofs to show me. Pictures papers. My parents made me marry a boy when I was hardly 6?! And then you people just disappeared and suddenly got back. My amma bauji too force me to accept the proposal. How do you expect me to digest everything in such short time? I am just compromising here. Did you hear that? Only a compromise!"
Arnav looked at her angry avatar feeling sorry for that girl who had no real family left except for him who was now legally her husband.
"Look khushi I know all this sounds unbelievable and frustrating but we can make this work."
"And do you think I am not trying to make this work?! I am trying Arnav. I gave up the life I had just to fit in the atmosphere of this house."
"I never asked you to give up your previous life Khushi. I had no objection to it. But as my wife it doesn't suite you to work as a waitress and cook in some downtown cafeteria."
"Yes I get it. You are the great ASR! The most powerful and rich man of the country. I get it, Arnav. But money was not I asked from life. I was happy the way I was living it."
"I know Khushi. But I can not help you here. If you like cooking so much I'll open a restaurant on your name. But I would not allow you to work as a chef somewhere else."
"Oh just Leave me alone."
"We aren't done with our previous discussion yet. What exactly what were you doing in that cafe with a man that too you allowed him to hold your hand?! You never allow me to touch you let alone hug you."
"That is something personal, Arnav. When I am ready to let you know I will tell you. For now all I can tell you is that he is a really good friend of mine."
Anger boiled in Arnav which like always he failed to control.
"What am I? Your servant!" he snapped.
"Arnav, be rational. You can not snatch my freedom."
"I can do exactly that! If I see you again with some other man without getting some valid reason you will face my wrath, Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada! Don't forget about the SINGH RAIZADA at the end of your name. You belong to me, just me! The earlier you get this in your mind the better it will be for you and your life. I have been very understanding, more understanding than I have ever been in my life. I gave you space I did not impose rules or demands or anything of that sort on you. If I am being lenient with you doesn't mean you can take advantage of it. Don't force me to be ASR with you like I am with the rest of the world. "
"Are you blackmailing me?! Then listen to me Arnav Singh Raizada I don not care at all about what you think and about what you will do. Go ahead and show your wrath. I am no less!" with that she stomped out of the room and Arnav hurled the files placed on the bed to the floor.

"What happened Khushi?" A worried Anjali asked Khuhsi as she sat down on the sofa.
"Nothing Di."
"Khushi, we all can understand how you feel about all this. You were forced to enter this relationship. This fact is not hidden. But Khushi I know Chotey can never find a wife like you. My Chottey is not bad, he is good at heart. Its just that the past made him like this. He had to shoulder the burden of this family at a very tender change. Don't you remember how funny and mischievous he used to be when you two were small. You too were always ready to hold the whole house on your heads. Always playing pranks on others Its like you were inseparable. Don't you remember."
"Truth be told Anjaliji. I remember all that very very vaguely. You don't expect me to remember everything after 20 years. My parents never brought up that topic again. It was hard for me forgetting you all but I did in the end. And now I am forced to remember the things I was made to forget."
"Khushi bitiya. Forgive us." Nani lamented.
"No Nani! You don't have to ask for forgiveness. Its anyone but your fault. He keeps asking me about things I can not tell him. You both know why."
"We do Khushi. We believed things will come around but its getting complicated again and again."
The bell of the door rang and HP came back holding a parcel.
"Its a parcel for Chotey?" Anjali asked.
"Yes, Anjali bitiya."
"Khushi you can take the parcel to him."
"But Di I don't want.."
"Please Khushiji." Anjali pleaded.
"Alright."Khuhsi acquiesced.
*
"There is this parcel for you.' Khushi said and placed the parcel on the table.
Her mobile rang and she picked it up.
"Hello. How are you? Yes, I am fine. You don't have to worry. I know how to take care of myself.' She spoke in the phone eyeing Arnav as if mocking him.
Arnav all the while listened to her talk, jealousy seeping in him on the prospect of the caller being the same man he saw. he took the parcel and emptied the contents. What he saw made him go mad with rage a rage he had never felt before.
Suddenly Khuhsi heard the loud banging of the doors being closed and when she saw Arnav turn back she almost relapsed in panic such was the angry torture on his face.
"Arnav whats..whats wrong? Are you okay?" She asked, worriedly.
He strode towards her and snatched her mobile throwing it on the floor with herculean force.
"Arnav!" She shouted.
"Don't yell at me! i should have understaood before the character you have. You are nothing but a..!"
"How dare you?" Khuhsi gasped.
"Look at these! Look at this and tell me what this is about!" Arnav shouted as he threw the bundle of pictures on her.
She stood there shocked as she made out what was in those pictures.
She! Wrapped in a dupatta. Hugging a man as if her life depended on it. Another person seeing those pictures would be totally wronged about what exactly had happened. Arnav was the same, mistaken.
"Do you have answers for this!" he yelled again.
"I.. its nothing." She whispered with a panic-stricken heart as flashes of a certain memory rushed back to her..
In the hour that had to come Khushi Kumari Gupta would realize the damage her silence had the power to do.
"I know what that is!" Arnav shouted as he pushed Khushi back on the bed.
"If you can do it with others why not with your own husband."
"Arnav no! Don't do this let me explain." She pleaded.
"I gave you the time for explanations. That time is gone now. This time is to pay." He bit out in a hoarse voice.
Just like that every dream every hope and every belief she had started to share with that man crumbled into pieces of dust which then flew away with the wind of the torture he afflicted on her. She was given no time to shout or to even beg.
Khushi Kumari Gupta was destroyed for something she had never done. She lost her dignity and her virtue at the hands of the beast that assaulted her.
This story is about betrayals and beliefs and sacrifices and torture and the path to redemption.
A story of two people who were meant to be together but a single mistake and some silence altered that.
P.S: I am the kind of person who when gets obsessive over something does everything to attain what desired and if I lose hope I lose every ounce of hope from that particular thing.
