I am still the junta's Raja Hindustani: Raja Hasan

Raja Hasan was being touted as the favourite to win Sa Re Ga Ma so it shocked many when Aneek piped him to the post. But Raja prefers to look at the brighter side of things and says that he is happy to be the junta's Raja Hindustani.

"More that being disappointed, I was sad after seeing the reaction of my parents who had lot of hopes from me. However, my mood changed after watching the delight on the faces of Aneek and Amanat's parents."

Looking back at the Sa Re journey, he says, "All three of us worked equally hard. Though I didn't win, I derive a lot of pleasure from the fact I got the highest number of votes from India."

Raja admits that the road ahead is tough. "You can never replace Taj Mahal. Like it even our top playback signers are the best so I have a long way to go."

So what next for him? "I just have to keep on singing which is my passion and now the judges have become like a family to me. So far, I've sung for Bappi da's film, my mentors Vishal-Shekhar have always treated me like a brother. Since they've bestowed this honour upon me, it's my duty to make sure that one day I'll sing for them."

Always the crowd favourite, Raja ends by saying, "I will work hard for my fans."

Life after yesterday

Life has taken an unexpected turn for Zee's SaReGaMaPa Challenge 2007 winner, Aneek Dhar as he eyes the Hindi film industry. The runners-up are two steps behind, writes Rupam Jain

It's a dream come true for three young men. From here, a bigger stage awaits them. While Aneek Dhar, the winner of Zee Hero Honda SaReGaMaPa Challenge 2007, is all set to make a mark on the contemporary music scene, Amanat Ali, the sweet and simple guy next door, has made Mumbai his second home. Raja Hassan, the maximum vote earner, who surprisingly lost to the Kolkata boy, is out to prove his mettle. For the time being, all of them have one destination in mind: Bollywood.

Aneek Dhar, who is just 17, was exposed to music right from kindergarten days. His mother, Rupa Dhar, who is also a singer, has been Aneek's inspiration. "My parents have always encouraged me to sing. It is because of them and my singing teacher Jayanta Sarkar that I have become worthy of this stage."

Just out of high school, this young lad has already lent his voice for some forthcoming films ~ Love Dot Com, Bal Ganesh and Little Krishna. "I look forward to a career in Bollywood. I would, however, like to wait for two more years for my voice to mature a little more. I am only 18 years old now. By the time I am 20, I will have a mature voice." He adds, "I admire Sonu Nigam but I don't wish to sound like him. I want to create my own identity."

The next two years Aneek wants to dedicate his time towards studies. "I will be studying sound engineering in Mumbai and then probably a masters diploma." Being a winner of the competition, Aneek has already bagged a music contract worth Rs 50 lakh with Zee TV and Universal Music. "I had decided that if I win the contest, I will make some contribution towards the development of my ancestral village in Shyamnagar. Now that I have won, I want to fulfil this wish."

The highest vote earner through "international voting", Amanat Ali from Pakistan, has plans to live in Mumbai. "Most singers want to become playback artistes but, unfortunately, the scenario is quite bleak in Pakistan. I want to lend my voice to Bollywood hits."

The 20-year-old, who was once the lead singer of Pakistani band Mekaal Hassan, has no intention of joining any other group. "I don't want to become stereotyped. It's not that I will sing for films, I also want to launch solo albums. I know the band culture in Pakistan is strong but I wish to make most out of my singing abilities."

Does the thought of not being the winner worry him? "No. The fact that at the age of 20 I have gained international popularity is an achievement. I know I have an original voice."

Amanat has already sung for the soon-to-be-released Junnon and is working on an album with Bappi Lahiri. He is also set to work with Bappi Lahiri's son, Bappa Lahiri.

Raja Hassan from Bikaner, Rajasthan, who was unexpectedly adjudged the first runner-up of the competition, has recovered from the shock. "Yes, I scored the maximum number of votes but it's all God's wish. I am happy that Aneek has won. I would have been equally happy if Amanat or I had won." After a thoughtful pause, he adds, "I thought I would win but this is not to say that I am upset."

Perhaps, there is just one regret. Raja wanted to declare his love on stage after winning the competition. "Once I win, I will blast it out," he had said a day before the competition. Though that did not happen, Raja's wife Ayesha, who is from Kolkata, was present at the finale.

After spending eight long years in Mumbai, Raja earned fame but is scared. "My passion for music brought me to Mumbai eight years back. I have struggled a lot to reach here and I don't want to look back. I, however, am afraid of maintaining this international status. It's tough being a celebrity."

Well, Raja might not have won the title but has a number of projects lined up. He is working with Shanker Mahadevan, Vishal-Shekhar, has already sung with Sumedha, another contestant in the show, for an album by Bappi Lahiri and has lent his voice for High School Musical 2.

"I am grateful to all those who have showered their love and blessings on me," says Raja before dedicating the following words to the audience ~ "Jab tak bika na tha, toh koi poonchta na tha, tumne kharidh ke mujhe anmol kar diya".
These are young sensations waiting to rock Bollywood.

Raja Hasan now has 7 projects in hand

Posted in Bollywood Music, Mentors, Other singers, SaReGaMaPa, Raja Hasan on October 23rd, 2007 | 32 Comments

Apparently, Raja Hasan has made a handsome start to his playback singing career post-Saregamapa. It seems Raja Hasan now has at least seven playback singing projects in hand. Though I do not have complete details, these are big names, big banners.

Both Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan are extremely impressed by Raja's singing and would like him in future projects. Raja is recording for Vishal-Shekhar this week for a Shah Rukh Khan movie - and most probably it would be for Ravi Chopra's Bhootnath. The Dard-e-Disco version also seems to be a possibility. Apart from this, Raja has a string of other opportunities - with music directors like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Raja has already recorded for Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's High School Musical 2 and Bappi Lahiri's Tere Sang. Tere Sang, directed by satish Kaushik, however has two music directors - Anu Malek (who is doing the songs) and Bappi Da (who has done the background score). Satish Kaushik was very impressed with Bappida's background score in close friend Anil Kapoor's movie, Gandhi, My Father and hired Bappida. However, the song Raja has recorded, would not be part of the main movie, but will be part of the title credits in the beginning and the end of the movie.

And the big news is that A.R.Rehman is also very much impressed with Raja and has promised him a song early next year.

Without a shade of doubt, this is the biggest start any participant of a singing contest has ever got. No winner or runner-up in the past of either Saregama, Saregamapa or Indian Idol has had so many offers right from the word go. While the rest of Saregamapa contestants are still struggling with getting bookings for stage shows done, Raja seems to be roaring ahead. Among other contestants, only Amanat seems to have a recording scheduled with Bappa Lehri, Bappida's son.

A friend who updates me with these details, has another interesting story as well. Zee has been receiving a number of offers from overseas organisers, who would like Raja to perform for them during the world tour. This includes an offer from an Indian embassy overseas. However, Zee has insisted that they do not have a "Raja alone" package. They will accept the offer only if Aneek is included in the show along with Raja. When the sponsors flatly refused to pay for Aneek, Zee was in a fix and asked the organisers to speak with HR for further negotiations!

I am more thirsty for music: Aneek

Press Trust of India
Wednesday, Oct 31, 2007 New Delhi

Fresh from winning the reality talent television show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, singer Aneek Dhar is excited and says his thirst for music remains unquenched.

"It is just the beginning and I have to go a long way so I want to forget that I am the winner. I want to work hard and travel the world and want to learn the nuances of different sorts of music till I reach the end of music," said Aneek.

The Bengal lad couldn't thank his stars more for what he has achieved. But he says, his success stands on four pillars.

"I am thankful to Himesh Reshammiya, my parents, my fans and last but not the least the almighty. They are the four pillars of my success," he said.

Aneek, who had previously won the title of Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has already sung a few songs for Bollywood.

"I have sung two songs for Bappida in two different films, one is called love.com and the other is Shivaji, which is a Bengali remake of Shivaji-the Warrior. I have also sung in Sameer Tandon's Bal Ganesh and Little Krishna, whose music has been directed by Shantanu Moitro," he said.

Aneek has a number of live shows lined up for the forthcoming days, which also includes a world tour.

But after all that is over, he wants to settle and concentrate on his singing.

"In these last seven months, my voice has gone through a lot, so after these shows are over I would like to take a gap of two to three months.

Aneek who idolises Sonu Nigam, has won millions of hearts with his romantic renditions but the 18-year-old says he doesn't want to stick to a particular genre.

"Although, I have been appreciated for my romantic numbers I would like to sing all sort of songs, romantic, hiphop, sufi, classical everything as it would help me to be a versatile singer," he said.

Aneek said he would like to learn guitar and try his hands in composing.

Although his first love is music, Aneek also has a passion for cricket and being a food-lover he knows cooking too.

Little prodigy aiming for the top

Submitted by rashmijsr on Mon, 2007-11-26 09:16

This little one has stars in his eyes and fire in his belly. With a mischievous smile, twinkling eyes, and studious looks, this lad will surely surprise you.

He is young, energetic, fresh and full of life. Rohit Shyam Raut, one of the participants of Sa Ra Ga Ma Pa L'il Champ, a reality show aiming to find the new singing talent. The programme is aired on Zee TV every Friday and Saturday at 10 pm. It is actually a homecoming for this 12-year-old lad who belongs to our very own city, but from the past two years, he is in Latur. In an exclusive tte--tte with The Hitavada, this little champ reveals his dreams, inspiration, hobbies and lot more...

Q: When did you begin singing and did you receive any formal training?
Rohit: I began my singing at the age of three and got the privilege of learning under able guidance of my guru Pandit Vitthalrao Jagtap. From an early age, I was inclined towards singing and used to sing songs as a hobby, but looking at my talent, my father inspired me and now this hobby has turned into a passion.

Q: How do you manage singing and studies both at the same time?
A: For this competition, my concentration is solely on singing and for the time being studies are on the backfoot.

Q: Where do you think you stand among your competitors and who is your toughest competitor?
A: I have a fair chance among others. I know my strong and weak points. Sagar, Aamir, Anamika, Vasundhara, and Smita are capable of giving me a close fight.

Q: What are the negative and positive aspects of your singing?
A: First let me start with the negative one. I easily come under pressure, if a contestant performs well and receives wide applause, the pressure increases on me to perform better or at least at par with him. The positive aspects are numerous. I am basically a classical singer and if one can learn classical, one can master anything. My high pitch notes are my strongest point.

Q: Being born and brought up in Nagpur, what do you like most about the city?
A: I am visiting Nagpur after a gap of two years and I find the city much cleaner and greener as well. And I love the thing for what our Nagpur is famous for - oranges and 'orange burfi'.

Q: Do you think reality shows are a good platform to make you a known singer?
A: Of course. Earlier we used to sing in our colony or at school and the audiences were limited. Now, with so much exposure through this programme, I have become a known face throughout the country.

Q: How do you prepare for a particular song in a competition?

A: We get little time to prepare for a song. We have Mukesh Parmar and Sanjay Vidyarthi, who are working relentlessly on our sur and tal. First I learn and remember the lyrics, then I work on getting the pitch and notes right. As 'practice makes a man perfect', I practice throughout the day till I receive perfection.

Q: Apart from singing what are your other hobbies?
A: I like drawing and I have received an award earlier. I also like composing music.

Q: Who is your inspiration? And with whom would you like to share the mike?
A: Some day I would like to compose music with Ismail Darbar. Suresh Wadkar and Sonu Nigam are my idols and it is my dream to share the stage with them and also with Alka Yagnik and Shreya Ghoshal.

Q: Are you satisfied with the voting system? How would you woo the audience?
A: See, today people are smart enough to make a correct judgment and my talent will do the talking and as for the voting system, it is fair enough. Apart from singing, we are groomed to be made presentable under the guidance of Charuvyas Naik and you would see the change in me in the coming episodes. And you certainly need to have the X-factor in you to charm everyone and I think I have that in me.
