CHAPTER 5

HEART'S FIRST VICTORY!

Manik stormed inside his room banging the door behind.His eyes were bloodshot red.He paced to and fro across the room and then sat on the couch .

"Maa"His eyes narrowed with contempt "That woman didn't deserve to be called Maa.She betrayed my father.She killed him . And those sisters!Why did I trust those sisters" He growled as his hands balled into fists."Whyyy?" He yelled and banged his hand on the glass table with full force.

There was a loud crashing sound and the glass got shattered into tiny pieces.

"Manik" Navya screamed and came running inside.He was breathing heavily and his eyes were seething with discontent.She got petrified when she saw blood oozing out of his hand.She ran back to get the First Aid box.

Manik sat like a statue all the while Navya tied the bandage around his hand.Silent tears rolled down her eyes seeing her brother in pain which he did not express at all.

"Doesn't it hurts..!?"She asked killing the awkward silence.

"I have suffered much more pain than this small wound can give me Di"He spoke firmly while his gaze was fixed on the floor all the time.

"Manik" Navya placed her hand on his cheek " itne stone hearted mat bano .You are punishing Nandini for no fault of hers!"

"Di, I dont want to talk about her"He replied ruthlessly.

"Then dont talk " Her lips curled in disgust as she spoke sternly "But agar thoda se bhi emotions baaki ho naa tumme then do visit her .She is in City Hospital"

She stood up and stalked out of his room stomping her feet in rage.

"Emotions" He smiled wickedly as his mouth quirked in annoyance.He got up and made a drink for himself.

FLASHBACK STARTS

"Tujhe pata hai aaj kal teri har baat Nandini se shuru hoti hai aur Nandini par hi khatam hoti hai.Nandini aisi hai , nandini vaisi hai..nandini ko ye pasand hai . Mujhe to lagta hai tujhe Alya se nahi Nandini se shaadi karni chahiye" Cabir said sipping his drink .

"What nonsense Cabir?"Manik retorted "Nandini is just a good friend.Its just that aajkal uske saath jyada time spend kar raha hu bcas we are shopping together so am getting to know about her likes and dislikes !"He gulped down his entire drink in one go.

"I think you are over drunk!" Manik continued "Just go and sleep"

"Over drunk to main hu"Cabir stood up and stumbled forward while Manik got up to provide him support. " But Dude! Main tera jija baad me hu aur friend pehle hu.So dont try to fool me"Cabir slurred while jabbing a finger into manik's chest" Close your eyes and listen to your heart...kyunki heart hota left me hai but phir bhi hamesha right hi hota hai!!"

Manik was stunned hearing Cabir's words.For a moment he froze on his place.

"Abhi main jata hu...gud night!!!" He said while he staggered away leaving Manik engrossed in his a chain of thoughts.

"Hamesha apne dil ki baat suno manik...it will always guide you on the right path"Manik recalled Nandini's words as he thumped back on the couch.

Reluctantly , he placed his hand on his heart and closed his eyes.

Smiling face of Nandini flashed before his eyes.Her chirpy voice,her,her bubbly face,her zest for life,her love for rain...everything came in front of his eyes.

"nandini"he mumbled as he opened his eyes with a jerk "Kya sach me!!!! I should tell this to her before its too late...I should!"

FLASHBACK ENDS

"I need to see her"Manik muttered to himself as her face flashed before his eyes.He stood up and walked towards the door.

Where are you going Manik?'His brain stopped him "she is Nandini Murthy...have you forgotten that she left you even after you confessed your love'

Dont listen to him'Heart spoke softly "It isn't necessary ki tum jisse pyaar karo , wo bhi tumse pyaar kare'

"You're THE MANIK MALHOTRA..!"Brain spatted "No girl has the right to walk out on you!'

"Zaroor uski kuchh mazboori hogi..!' Heart replied

This mazboori word is all bullshit!!" Brain spoke

Oh shut up you mindless brain..! Don't misguide him..! Manik..! She needs you...She is in pain.She is suffering..because of you...!'Heart spoke its bit. "Just go and see her once ...only once..!'

"Only once"manik mumbled and looked at the watch.It was quite late.

Tomorrow'He said and retired to bed.

Manik woke up early in the morning.Navya was still asleep when he left for office.He had to go to the hospital on his way.

AT THE HOSPITAL

Manik enquired Nandini's room number from the reception desk .He reached there and found Mr. Murthy talking to the doctor.He hid behind the pillar and heard their conversation.

"Hows my daughter doctor?"Mr. Murthy asked in a concerned tone.

"She's fine now Mr. Murthy.But she needs complete rest and so we have given her sedatives.You can take her back but please take care that she keeps away from any kind of mental and physical stress." The doctor said.

"Ok I will take care"Mr. Murthy said.

Mr. Murthy walked away with the doctor to complete the discharge formalities while Manik sneaked into Nandini's room quietly.

He was taken aback at once seeing her pale face.She was sleeping peacefully but she looked very weak.Manik's anger faded away seeing her face.He approached her with heavy steps and sat beside her.

He leaned forward and caressed her forehead.She was still warm.He touched her hairline where he could see very light traces of vermillion.

"Manik"She mumbled ,her eyes still closed .

Manik gasped and pulled back his hand with a jerk.

But she was in deep slumber.She didn't open her eyes.

"She responded to your touch in unconscious state and you think she doesn't love you..!!!" Heart popped up with its justification again.But this time brain did not reply.May be because brain was also convinced with the justification.

Manik entwined her hand with his .

"I don't know why I am so rude to you.Its not your fault that you did not love me..!'He spoke softly looking at her as silent tears rolled down his cheeks.

"One last time..!'He said to himself and bent forward to kiss her forehead.

She clutched his hand tightly and Manik gasped.

Nandini opened her eyes slowly " Manik , I...I knew ki tum aaoge" She stammered in the weakest tone "You cant see me in pain naa..!"

Nandini was delirious.She was speaking incoherently.A lone tear escaped her eye.Manik felt a twinge in his heart.

"Just close your eyes Nandini"He spoke in a low tone and moved his hand vertically over her eyes "You need rest"

She closed her eyes and once again drifted to sleep.

He knew that Mr. Murthy would come anytime so he had to leave.He got up and stepped backwards,his gaze still fixed on her face.

Reluctantly he turned around and walked out...!

Have been really caught up due to festivities.Will try putting up a longer chappy next time.
