Sonam Kapoor and Salman Khan in a still from Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

Salman Khan has beaten his own record at the box office with his latest release Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which has become the biggest Hindi opener of 2015. The Sooraj Barjatya directorial has received a mind-boggling start with superb numbers at the box office on Day 1. The deadly combination of Salman and Sooraj has yet again worked wonders for the duo. The incessant promotions and the perfect Diwali release has got the family entertainer the much required numbers at the ticket windows as it has managed to raked in Rs 40.35 crore on its opening day.

MOVIE REVIEW: Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh took to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the box office collection of the film, calling it an "outstanding start."

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which brought Salman and Sooraj together after a gap of 16 years, was released in more than 4500 screens in India. Salman is back as Barjatya's quintessential hero Prem in the family entertainer and the actor is happy that filmmaker Sooraj has tried to bring back the innocence in his latest release.

Keeping in mind Salman's fan base, the makers had opened the advance bookings of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo five days before its release.

The family drama also stars Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Armaan Kohli. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo hit the screens on November 12.

However, Salman has yet again failed to break the opening day record of SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali. The epic war drama, which hit the screens on July 10, raked in Rs 50 crore on its opening day and Salman's last release Bajrangi Bhaijaan failed to come anywhere close to those numbers at least on Day 1. The Kabir Khan directorial, which hit the screens a week after Baahubali, had minted only Rs 27 crore on its opening day, thus, becoming the second biggest opener of the year.

Baahubali had minted Rs 50 crore in all versions on Day 1, but it seems unlikely that PRDP will be able to collect much from its Tamil and Telugu versions owing to the big releases like Thoongavanam and Vedalam down South.

BB wasn't enough isliye Bahubali went to break all records every set by anyone n record ke liye aap movie dekhne jaate honge baaki log nahi 😆 n itna hi record hai n i feel bad for salman kyunki some of his fans care only for records so jab he had no records tab uske fans the bhi ya nahi 😕😆 n don't yu think it matters to beat bahubali as some fans only want records 😉

🤣 The extent that people go to pull down a Salman movie...can't they just accept that its a earth-shattering opening and beginning of something "ridiculous " records...

On Topic, Bahubali had strong South Indian audience, where as PRDP doesn't have that many Tamil-Telgu people watching BW movie. It still sells , that's why they dub it

Lastly, if people get some relief and burnol with this...enjoy
