@Underlined, Thats soo cute. 😳 I wish we would have got to see that in the show too. We never got to see Maan Singh ever even talking to little Rahim. Unfortunately, our CV's were more interested in focusing on negative or fictional characters, rather than showing the bonding between the positive or real ones. 🥱

I know...😔 But at least they showed bonding between Jo and Rahim.

I read a little bit of Muntakhabh and even Badayuni, the bigot mentions this marriage in a very respectful manner.
I recently read a book by Afzal Husain, who is with Aligarh Muslim University. It is called,"Nobility under Akbar and Jahangir". This is an excellent book and is a great supplement to Akbarnama, TA and others. A lot of key players and how they were connected to Akbar became clear to me.
Anyway, in that book it is mentioned that it was on the suggestion of Chagatai Khan that Bharmal made this marriage offer and Akbar readily accepted, Hmmm.... I remember Abhay had already mentioned this before somewhere. This was very well done in the show.
Another thing I read in the same book which I found super cute was a little snippet about Rahim and Man Singh.
It seems that Rahim's kids used to call Man Singh "Dadaji".
When 11 year old Man Singh came to Agra after the Ak-HK wedding, he was asked to take care of Rahim and play with him.
How cute is that? The author has given a reference for this I don't remember but it started with a Z. The book is at home and me at work.😆 This book is a compilation of the research that the author did for his PhD.

Great Info Devki. Ha ha ...dadaji That's super cute. I really really lament the lost opportunity in this show to showcase one of Akbar's great and secular navratanas...Abdul Rahim Khane khanam.

Very tragic considering the no study of Hindi is complete without his Dohas and pearls of wisdom.

I feel really sad about his life and the tragic end for him and his sons. Uff I have not decided yet whether I like Jehangir or not 🤢

The book by Afzal hussein sounds really interesting

The book by Afzal Husain is really interesting. It tells in detail about the role played by and importance of all the major families during the reign of Akbar and Jahangir including Bairam Khan's Family and of course Raja Bharmal's.

The reference given by him for ManSingh- Rahim relationship is Zakhira tul Khawanin by Sheikh Farid Bhakkari who served in the reign of Jahangir and Shah Jahan.

Devki,
Thanks for sharing these beautiful snippets.

The present blog post about marriage of Akbar and MUZ also made use of this rare book, while mentioning how and why Akbar married Harka Bai, courtesy Chugtai Khan & Bharmal's helplessness due to Sharif-ud-din. The scan is present in the post.

The book is out of print now, the ONLY original manuscript is with the Pakistan Historical Society at Karachi, no English translation exists as far as i know - which is sad for all of us, as no one here would command proficiency in Persian.

This is the same book which contains the incident of ill treatment of grandsons of Mirza Hakim by Jahangir, which we were discussing few days back on another thread.

BTW, I have the original text of the thesis of this person (1978), taken directly from the university. :-P

It is these kind of small things which matter a lot while deciphering the relations of the royals. Such crisp - short incidents speak a 1000 times better than the bulky decorated paragraphs.

I knew you would know about it Abhay. Whatever I have read so far just confirms your research and reinforces my belief and trust in your findings.
Now how did you manage to get the original text of Mr. Husain's thesis?😲 That book is such a great read.
Oh so ZK is tucked away in Pakistan now? They should allow it to be translated into English. I am sure there are a lot of people who are proficient in Persian. That is really sad.
You are right, it is these isolated little findings put together that give us a picture of the royals' personal lives.

Devki,
They have the original manuscript in Pakistan, the only one known to exist. It can be translated provided any one is ready to do so. Hopefully, someone does it.
The thesis can be obtained by visiting their university library.
