In SRK's mind, his finances in his youth are obviously going to seem lower to middle class to him considering how wealthy he is now. A homeless person would consider a Nano owner to be rich. It all depends on how you look at things.

Fact is people who grew up in India in the 70s and 80s didnt have so many luxuries and consumer goods that even middle class families have today. Those were simpler times, people didnt have computers, electronic gadgets, they were not even invented then, heck even telephones and fridges were considered luxuries. So in hindsight it seems as if we led a very humble life, free of trappings of luxury. No wonder SrK says he had a humble childhood.
Again, the Maruti car SRK had in 80s was not when he was a kid, it was after he grew up, he was already doing TV serials in 1988, right?
