If there was ever an award for the best time manager then Pooja Bedi definitely stands a strong chance of winning. From being a single parent to two children to balancing her work to rehearsing and performing for Nach Baliye, Pooja sure seems to be donning quite a few responsible hats.
"It's very difficult to manage home and work. I often say I wish I had 10 hands like Ma Durga. I have to look after the house, my kids and their homework, go for the rehearsals. I have no time for my friends! After 6 hours of rehearsals if I have any energy left in my body then I go out. It's been a while since we did that," she says.
Recently Hanif and Pooja made sure they took out time for a Breast Cancer Awareness charity function earlier this week where they performed the opening act with a Latin dance performance following which they walked the ramp with other very well known celebrities.
"Yes we did do the show. Doing charity is very important for me and so I make sure that I make time to do something for those people who have nothing at all. Charity and my children are two things that are closest to my heart and something that I will just not compromise on!"
But with all this going on how does she make sure that her kids don't get neglected?
"I am really lucky that I have such understanding kids. They never cry… they are always very happy. They are very nice and they understand that only if mom works can she take them for holidays and buy them nice things so they understand that. They know their mum works very hard. I try and get most of my rehearsals at a time when they are at school so that when they return I can spend time with them. And then when they come home they give me massages – someone presses my head, someone my shoulders, someone my legs… they are just so sweet! They are just lovely children. And then Hanif takes them on drives, to eat ice cream. My son is very fond of chess and he has played at the state level… and Hanif plays a lot with him. So all in all I have a very good support system," she says fondly, "They are so sweet… they are just happy with whatever marks I get. When I leave they always wish me best of luck. They are very loving and understanding kids. Nowadays when I come home they are practicing with their own kids and having their own competition so it's a complete dance atmosphere at home."
Both Hanif and Pooja were quite apprehensive of managing Bollywood moves in the show. However, if their past performances are anything to go by they have more than impressed everyone on the show.
"I think we have bought a whole lot of variation in our dances on the show. In the first one we did Rock n Roll, then we did Bharatnatyam on a western song for the fusion round, then we did an act with a lot of ched chaad between college kids in the next round and now in the episode coming up we have done a fantastic Latin performance. So in each performance we have experimented with each style. Somehow or the other we are bringing our Bollywood elements in the acts – drama, emotions. I am having a lot of fun – no doubt about that! There have been some tears but there have been a lot more laughs!"
In the last performance Hanif and Pooja scored 27 marks.
