Not just star kids..
With the newcomers almost taking over
Bollywood, we look at the five who have had
the biggest successes and who have been
celebrated the most in the first half of this
decade. How the list below is dominated by
star kids and if they have it easier, is a
discussion for another time!
Alia Bhatt
Just three years into the industry, this 22-
year-old has seen some serious highs in her
career. With super hits such as Student of the
Year and 2 States to her name and critical
successes like Highway, the youngest child of
yesteryear director, Mahesh Bhatt is making
sincere efforts to do her job well. However, the
trait which catapulted her to superstardom
was her GK, or rather, the lack of it. Her Koffee
with Karan appearance followed by All India
Bakchod's (AIB) Genius of the Year video
ensured that she was talked about for a long
time.
Varun Dhawan
Another Karan Johar find, or so they say,
Varun Dhawan has done enough since his
debut with Student of the Year to ascertain that
he is here to stay. With five releases in the
past three years, he has proven his acting,
dancing, having a six-pack' and generating
money at the box-office talents. His choices of
films reflect his keenness to experiment and
keep the audience interested in him - having
played romantic and playful characters in
Student of the Year and Humpty Sharma Ki
Dulhaniya, comedic in Main Tera Hero and of
course, the dark and intense, Raghu from
Badlapur . It will be interesting to see what
made him do Dilwale, in which most of the
attention is clearly on his co-star, Shah Rukh
Khan.
Parineeti Chopra
Her first film, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl had three
other actresses, one of whom was Band Baaja
Baaraat's Anushka Sharma, and yet all that
was spoken and written about was her acting.
The film was easily forgotten except that
Parineeti Chopra took home every single debut
award in 2011 for her performance in it. It
would be hard to believe that she has been
part of just five films since then (two of which
were serious flops), considering her
popularity. Either due to her relation with
cousin, Priyanka Chopra or the endless copy
being written about her size, this Yash Raj
protg is mostly in the news.
Arjun Kapoor
Arjun Kapoor managed to get noticed in his
Habib Faisal directed debut film Ishaqzaade
despite the presence of Parineeti Chopra (that
does not happen too often). Since then, he
has delivered a super hit, 2 States , played a
double role in his second film Aurangzeb and
has taken risks by opting for a not so
commercial film like Finding Fanny. Also, his
bro-mance with Ranveer Singh has ensured
more than enough publicity for the both of
them. To add to it, he was part of probably
one of the most talked about events of the
last half decade - the AIB Roast, which surely
didn't do much for Tevar, but revealed a
different side of Kapoor - that he can take a
joke.
Sidharth Malhotra
One factor that definitely distinguishes
Siddharth Malhotra from the four above is
that he has no direct connections to the
industry. Other than that, if you've debuted in
a Karan Johar directorial venture and have his
mentorship, along with having looks as good
as his, the only place you will be going is up.
No wonder he gets to be cute in Student of the
Year and the opposite in Brothers. Also, the
box office collections of Ek Villain proved that
he can deliver a solo hit, even if the only thing
worth mentioning about the film is its music.
Besides, constant speculation about his
personal life has ensured he remains in the
news. He is filming for another Dharma
Production, Kapoor and Sons, currently.https://www.dnaindia.com/entertainment/report-the-5-best-bollywood-debuts-of-this-decade-2137580
