Ragini stirred as the veil of sleep lifted, her eyes adjusting to the bright light of late morning streaming through the windows.

And what a sight to wake up to - her sleeping husband, turned towards her with an arm thrown haphazardly around her waist (no longer shy about how low his hands dipped, not after...)

She blushed hotly at the memory of last night, thankful he was still asleep and she was spared from the inevitable teasing at her reaction to the mere thought of what he had drawn out of her with his fingers and his mouth.

And now, in the sober daylight, she studied this man that had been the root of her highest highs and lowest lows, who had found his way back to her not once but twice, against all odds. At his steady breathing she felt bold enough to reach out and gingerly run her fingers through his soft hair.

The tickle of his hair against her skin brought her back to hours before - in the darkness, her hands desperately clutching his head against her body - his teeth, scraping against her shoulder while pulling down the thin strap of her nightie - digging her nails in (did it hurt, she wondered now) as he mapped the newly exposed peaks and valleys with his hot breath and eager tongue.

She had always thought he had beautiful eyelashes, long and dark frames to his expressive eyes. The same eyes (resting peacefully now) that had branded her with his desire; she had felt his gaze over her as acutely as his touch - and in the moments after, the softness in them had called to her heart.

Ragini lightly traced the contours of his face: the "royal" nose she often teased him about which he loved to nuzzle against her neck, his proud chin that fit just so as he held her from behind to do just that. That mouth, curved into a small smile, with his soft, insistent lips...

Her eyes were drawn to his broad shoulder, and she puzzled for a moment over the bruise that dotted his skin, until the familiar curve of the injury brought to mind his tense body hovering over hers, her hands gripping his back, and as he took her higher (and higher) her mouth had found his heated skin, biting down just before fireworks exploded behind her closed eyelids and they crashed helplessly, together.

Seeing the evidence of her passion in broad daylight gave her pause. She had known their first night together would be special - her body had not forgotten the feel of him even after all these years - but could they truly pick up where they had left off when they were younger and foolish? And when the novelty wore off... would everything else still be enough to hold them together?

Ragini wandered into the living room and pulled her robe tighter around herself as she surveyed the scene. Her eyes widened as she took in the pillows on the floor, the coffee table haphazardly askew, the lamp lying on its side next to the sofa.

"Nachiket!" Fear seized her heart. "Nachiket, come quickly!"

She heard his heavy footsteps hurry down the hallway and he was next to her faster than she thought possible. "Ragini, what happened? Are you ok?" Even with his bleary eyes he looked at her with such concern that she leaned into his comforting embrace.

"I think someone broke in last night...what if they're still here?"

He peered past her at the damage.

"They are," he said gravely.

She looked up at him in horror. "How do you know?"

"Because I think I've caught her," he tightened his hold on her and an easy grin slid over his face. "But I hear she's extremely dangerous," he whispered in her ear. "In fact, I have the marks to prove it."

Ragini stood stunned, heat rising in her cheeks. "You're saying this was...us?"

"Your shenanigans in particular...shall I remind you?" His mouth hovered over her ear, tongue meeting her earlobe before moving down to her neck.

Her eyes fluttered closed and she sighed as he nibbled at the sensitive skin at her throat, his morning stubble creating a delicious friction. Her hands moved over his back to trace his spine and she relished the hitch in his breath as her fingers dipped below the small of his back.

He slid his hands over her arms and brought them back in front of him. She was dimly aware of her robe sliding off her shoulders, but could not dwell on it because soon his purposeful fingers were climbing their way up under the hem of her nightie.

"Nachiket," his name rushed out of her as if he was the breath that filled her lungs.

He brought his mouth level with hers and looked deep into her eyes as they opened. They could not hide her want from him, no more than her traitorous body could hide her response, but her mind rallied valiantly.

"It's all right," he murmured against her mouth. "Let me, sweetheart...I've got you."

She hesitated for a moment before his touch broke something inside of her, and as her walls crumbled against his onslaught she held onto him and that was okay, because he was solid and he was there, in front of her and around her and in her ear, urging her to new heights, telling her he loved her, the deep rasp in his voice sending shivers down her spine until she could feel only bliss and him, as if that was all that had ever existed.

"I love you." The words tumbled from her mouth as her world tumbled around her.

As dusk gave way to night, they found themselves lounging on the sofa once more. Content with just each other's company, Nachiket mindlessly flipped through the channels, his other arm around his wife tugging her just a little bit closer.

He paused as a thought occurred to him. "What time does your mother get back tomorrow?"

She raised an eyebrow. "Oh, now she's my mother?"

Nachiket smiled sheepishly. "What time does Maa get back?"

"Not until the afternoon, why?"

He furrowed his brow as if deep in thought. "I was thinking of something we could do until then."

"Oh?" She rested her head on his chest and dropped a kiss over his heart. "What might that be?"

"Apartment hunting."

Ragini shot up and tried to gauge his level of sincerity. "What?"

"Sorry, you're right. House hunting."

She gaped at him. "A house?"

He nodded. "With plenty of room for Maa, and Naani, and...us." Nachiket paused. "Maybe not as much furniture to knock over."

Ragini smacked him on the shoulder and rolled her eyes. "Aren't you forgetting someone?"

"Sunny Tai?"

"The kids," she laughed. "And Pam."

The smile dropped from his face. "I don't know if that's possible," he said gently.

She smoothed his hair back from his forehead. "It could be, if...the house was in the US?"

Surprise registered in his eyes and he clasped her hands in his. "The US? Are you sure?"

"My home is where my family is...wherever you are."

"I don't want to force you into a decision. In fact I am completely ready to make my life here, with you."

"I know," she squeezed his hand. "I see that now, everything you were trying to do to show me..." she trailed off, tears glistening in her eyes. "And here I was all these months, waiting for the words."

"Hey." He brought her closer and settled her against his chest. "I should have said them long ago, when I knew... but promise me, no more looking back. Only forward."

She sighed, his steady heartbeat reassuring and evocative of the constant march of time in a single direction. "Only forward," she agreed.

There were no witnesses, save their eyes. No fine print except for the quiet contentment radiating from their smiles.

And in lieu of signing on a dotted line, they happily sealed the deal with a kiss.

After reading all the gorgeous parts of this story, I am out of words to tell you how beautiful this one is. There could not have been a better ending, you could not have chosen better words. It was better than perfect, Nidhi. <3 <3
I have read it thrice already. Again, the dialogues were apt. Ragini melting in his arms was sensual, them deciding to go to US was mature, and their love-making was hot! :D Perfect! Perfect! :D
