Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are now the names of drugs doing rounds in Navratri pandals. Anti-narcotics Cell (ANC) officials said these were the newest code names used by peddlers and Alia Bhatt was nothing but heroin, one of the most expensive contraband.
A source said, "To keep themselves safe from the eyes of police, this year, peddlers have named drugs as Deepika Padukone, Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Sharma among others."
So, opium is selling under the guise of Deepika, ketamine as Sonakshi, cannabis as Anushka, MDMA tablets as Priyanka and acid paper drug as Katrina. ANC sources said the youth used drugs during Navratri so they could dance all through the night.
A top police officer said, "As a precaution, drug peddlers always use different names for drugs. The police too have to keep pace with them and keep unraveling new codenames. Once police decodes the names, drug peddlers start using different names."
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dhanajay Kulkarni told this newspaper, "We are monitoring drug peddlers and when there are festivities or we get inputs about a hike in such incidents, we increase our manpower."
Psychiatrist Dr Rajiv Anand said, "Under the influence of drugs, a person's mind gets clouded which makes it difficult for him or her to sustain."
