Shillong showers love on Amit

Amit Paul signs autograph on the arm of a little girl during an interaction programme with his fans and supporters at the State Central Library auditorium on Wednesday.
SHILLONG: Shillong continued to shower unprecedented love and affection on Amit Paul -- an undisputed local celebrity - when he mingled with his fans at the Soso Tham Hall here on Wednesday.
Rare sights like a Khasi woman gifting her 24-Karat gold chain to Amit Paul and a child getting an autograph of Amit signed on her hand were samples of hero worship witnessed at the auditorium.
The programme, which was organised by Amit Paul's family members, received a huge response from the general public here. Hundreds of Amit fans and well-wishers, including school children, thronged the venue much before the scheduled time of his arrival, as they were eager to meet and interact with Amit.
It was a pleasant scene to see parents bringing their small children to the venue, as these tiny little children were die-hard fans of Amit.
While some of the popular songs of Amit were being played in the background, majority of these children ecstatically rose in chorus. The auditorium, which was filled to the brim, saw Amit in an obliging mood to sign endless autographs, answer questions and sing long enough to everyone's satisfaction.
The State Government will felicitate Amit, the State Brand Ambassador for Peace and Communal Harmony, at a function to be held at Jawaharlal Sports Complex on Thursday at 3 pm.
However, Amit would meet his fans and well-wishers at the venue from 10 am to 12 noon. After the felicitation function Amit would also perform from 3.30 pm to 5 pm.
