Sidharth Malhotra: I think Kareena Kapoor (Khan) is really sexy

posted on : 27 Jun 2013
Call us biased but we think Sidharth Malhotra is as hot as they come. Blessed with a perfect 10 body, Sid's deep baritone and smouldering looks are enough to leave any girl weak in the knees. It doesn't end there. Besides being an absolute looker, this Karan Johar find is as talented an actor too - and his first film Student Of The Year alone is proof of that. And just when you think it can't get any better than this, it actually does! The hunky actor is surprisingly quick-witted and gifted with a great sense of humour. In this month's Wild Encounter, see the hottest kid on the block tackle our volley of fun and naughty questions with his sharp wit, tongue-in-cheek humour and dollops of charm.

Tell us about your first crush.
My first crush was my Business Studies teacher in school. She was the youngest teacher we had in school. I was in tenth plus then. And I took great interest in business studies for obvious reasons. It's a different thing that I didn't learn anything (laughs). But I loved her lectures.

What was your first date like?
My first date was when I was in school. I was about 16 then. I took my girlfriend for a chicken roll at a joint in Saket. It was the cheapest date I could afford. So I took her post school to this place where we had Fountain Pepsi and a chicken roll. I had to make an excuse for this date. I told her that I haven't eaten anything all day and I am very hungry and asked her to give me company. So it was a date for me in my head. At first, the girl didn't understand that it was a date. Once she understood, it took me a couple of days to convince her ki let's do this every day. I had to maro a lot of stupid emotional lines to convince her (laughs). And then finally, we started going out on dates regularly. There was this old movie theatre called Chanakya in Delhi where they screened Hindi and English movies. So we both used to bunk school and go watch English movies there. We went for the regular English films, not the dirty ones or the A-rated ones. Just making it clear (laughs).

What is your idea of a perfect date?
I think it would be going to the beach. The beach, the stars, the moonlight, they do everything in terms of the mood and the setting. So you don't really have to do anything. And the convenient thing is that it is cheap (laughs). Just get two glasses, a bottle of wine and the sand and the waves do the rest of the job for you.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yeah, I would like to. I still haven't experienced it but I would like to feel it. I am romantic that way.

What is the first thing you notice in a woman?
I think that would have to be the hair. I notice a girl's hair before anything else.

What is the one thing that you detest in a woman?
First is body odour (laughs). But then, I detest that in anybody. Otherwise, I don't like girls who are too brand conscious. That's a complete turn-off.

There is an endless debate on size zero versus voluptuous women. Some find skinny women attractive while others feel curvy women are sexier. What's your take?
There's no perfect woman in my head. To each, his own. If you are healthy and yet size zero, it's attractive. I don't deny that. As far as curves are concerned, who doesn't like curves? I am a Punjabi boy at heart. So I definitely like curves. But it's subject to the girl. I don't really have one particular kind of preference. If a girl is thin, I won't say that she is ugly just because she is size zero. If she is thin, fit and attractive, who won't like it? And if a girl is attractive but on the plump side, even that is nice. I'm not too choosy.

What's the strangest compliment you've received from a girl?
I was doing a photoshoot in Delhi when I was a model. So I was wearing these really tight shorts. And a girl there came up to me and said, I like the way those shorts fit you'. So that was the first time a girl complimented me on the shape of my, you know (laughs). I was 18 or 19 then. So initially I didn't understand what she was saying. When she told me first, I was like, Yeah, they are nice shorts'. But then she was like, No, I like the way they fit you'. And that's when I got it. I checked the shorts. They were a bit too tight in certain areas (laughs).

Has a woman ever used a cheesy pick-up line on you?
No, I've never been picked up by a woman with a cheesy line. In fact, I think I am the one using idiotic lines. There was this one time when I told a girl, The music in here is too loud. Let's go some place quiet'. My friends had told me that this line always works. But she turned around and told me, I like the music.' (laughs) So I was like, Umm, okay'. I didn't have a comeback to that. I mean, what do you say to that? So the cheesy pick-up line obviously didn't work for me and it was a complete downer. This was the only time I tried the cheesy, corny line and it backfired so badly.

I think one-liners do not work. It only works in Hindi movies. I've never seen one-liners work on anybody in India. Being a Delhi boy, I can assure you it doesn't work on Delhi girls at least. You'd rather go through the brother to get to the girl than use a one-liner.

Has a guy ever hit on you?
No guy has hit on me but they have complimented me. Being in the modelling world, you get lots of compliments. And frankly, it is quite flattering. A compliment is a compliment irrespective of whether it comes from a guy or a girl.

How would you react if you became a gay icon?
Again, I think it is a compliment. So in that sense, it's great. In today's day and age, it's as good as girls liking you. It's a compliment if even the other sex likes you because they look at you from a woman's point of view. So if the girls like you, the gay community too will like you.

Who do you think is the sexiest actress in Bollywood today?
I think Kareena Kapoor (Khan) is really sexy. I also really like Katrina (Kaif) in Ishq Shava (from Jab Tak Hai Jaan). The way she danced in that song was nice, there was something really sexy about what she wore in the song too. And from the earlier times, I was a huge Madhuri Dixit fan when I was growing up.

In your very first film Student Of The Year, you had a kissing scene with Alia Bhatt. Were you apprehensive about shooting an intimate scene?
I wasn't really apprehensive. And full credit goes to Alia (Bhatt) and Karan (Johar) for making that scene look so beautiful. Obviously, we didn't practise or rehearse for that scene. Alia is very confident for her age and she understands all about the camera, being from a film family. It actually took both of us a while to understand what the camera actually wanted when we kissed for the first time. And we both were very conscious of how we would look during that scene because in India, we've never had any film showing a teeny-bopper kiss. But in the end, it worked out comfortably and the scene looked aesthetic. It was a casual yet great scene.

What was your first reaction when you got to know that you had to shoot a kissing scene?
I was a bit nervous about it because no hero-heroine pair is known to kiss really well on screen. Come to think of it, you can't think of any iconic kissing scenes in Bollywood. So there were no references. Plus, Karan Johar was shooting a kissing scene for the first time. So it was a little unnerving to do it aesthetically and not make weird faces or use too much tongue or less tongue. But we got it right, it looked cute on screen.

Considering you've done an intimate scene in your very first film, are you open to doing them in the future?
See, the kiss was required in the film for Varun's (Dhawan) character to come in and have that conflict with my character. There was complete logic to it and it went with the vibe of the film. So in the future, if a script requires it, maybe. Not that I'm dying to do scenes like these and kiss more on screen (laughs). But if the content is there and if it is done aesthetically, why not?

Have you watched po*n during your growing up years?
Of course, I have.

What is your take on one-night stands?
To each, his own. It's not like I endorse them. But if you want to live in the moment, why not?

Studies show that men think about sex every six seconds. What do you have to say about that?
(Counts till six) No, the study was wrong. It's been six seconds and I didn't think about sex.

It is generally believed that men find intelligent and successful women intimidating. Your take?
No, not at all. I think what intimidates me is those high funda people. I like regular people. People who pretend to be somebody they are actually not or people who put on fake accents - they actually turn me off. I'm not intimidated but turned off by them. And coming back to the question, if a girl is really successful or really intelligent, why should it be intimidating? It is a positive thing, right?

If you had to give one relationship tip to guys, what would it be?
Me? I would want to take some relationship advice from others (laughs). Like I told you, my cheesy pick-up line plan backfired. So I am in no position to give any advice. I still have to learn myself.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how attractive do you think you are?
I would give myself a 6 or 7.

What, according to you, makes you sexy?
I still have to figure that out. I think it's all thanks to my genes and genetics. I guess women like my voice - it's something I get from my father. I think my voice is sexy.

If you had to change one part of your body, what would it be?
That would have to be my lanky arms. I would make them an inch shorter. You know, with these arms, it's tough to buy jackets off the rack. Every jacket has to be altered for me. My tailors and designers will be very happy if I could reduce my arm length.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how hot do you think Varun Dhawan is?
Varun is very sexy. He has got a great body, superb abs and I think he is the fittest guy. He is much more fit than me. His body is much more toned than mine and much fitter. You see my abs and see his abs; his abs are much more defined. I think he is easily a 7 or 8.

And how much would you rate Alia Bhatt?
Alia is cute. She has got a bubbly, very cute, infectious energy about her. Alia is very attractive. I think Alia gets even more than Varun. She is an 8 or 9 on the attractive scale.

Everyone loved your bromance with Varun in Student Of The Year. So if you were offered Dostana 2, who would you choose to be your partner in crime?
Varun and I would be really superb in Dostana 2. Otherwise, I don't know. From the younger lot, it's tough to pick. Everyone is good. Ranbir Kapoor would be great at doing a role in Dostana. We've never seen him do that. However, I think Ranbir and I might look odd; we both are too tall. But then, Ranbir is one of the cooler actors to do it with; he has a great sense of humour. So yeah, it will be Varun or Ranbir.

I remember him talking of his this pick-up line during HTP promotions on Zoom with Madhureeta.
I remember him once telling how Alia and he had to rehearse for kissing scene so many times that after a while it became boring (interview where he also said how he would enjoy kissing Deepika )but in this interview he said that they didn't rehearse. Am I confused or it's contradictory in two interviews.

I also remember him talking about rehearsing the kissing scenes. But even here he's a bit contradictory by saying Alia knew everything but then she didn't and they weren't nervous but there was nothing for them to use as guide etc. I think for some reason he's not comfortable talking about kissing Alia and he starts yammering 😆. I know that after EV and even HTP he's said that kissing scenes shouldn't be taken as a big deal as they are too technical and not romantic at all.

Is it just me or did he seem a lot more open in older interviews. You kind of see more of his sense of humor in this interview than some of his newer ones. He's become more reserved.

Oh and I agree with him. His kissing scene with Alia is one of the aesthetically more beautiful kisses in Bollywood. And it totally fits the plot. It wasn't just there for the sake of being there.

I don't know if he's ever really said that he's lying about his personal life. He's said things form he's single to how he likes to keep his private life private. He has said that actors are professional liars because you have to pretend to be something you are not in front of the camera and convince people of it, or something like that.

There were so many interviews during Brothers' promotion that I'm honestly not sure which comment was made in which interview. But yes the past couple of months he's been very vague about his personal life from one interview to another. He has said everything from I'm single to it's complicated to very specifically saying what's between him and Alia is scared to him, or some variations of these.

Whatever is going on between him and Alia is a new situation for him. So it's not that he's learned to lie, but more that he's never been in this situation where the media gets into his personal life, not to this degree anyway. Like you said, it's his private life and he's got every right to handle it any which way he pleases. Beyond that he's still a very consistently sincere and honest person. I wouldn't compare him to others. His comment about being professional liars was specifically about selling a character and the movie.

I think,he can lie in print IV's,but he can't lie in video IV's!Have u seen that video where the reporter asked him how Alia liked Brothers? He was literally blushing! He wanted to hide it,but unfortunately couldn't! That's the 1st time when I felt there something is really going on between them!Although I like Alia,n I think she is the only real friend he has made in Bollywood!N she is always there to support him!But still I will never believe any of the rumours associated with him, till he don't confirm them himself! But do you think, there is something really going on between Sid n Alia?

Ahh the million dollar question, especially here on IF where everyone has their own ideas of what Sid is like 😉.

Whatever is going on between them, I don't believe that it's for the sake of their movies and careers. Romance, friendship or whatever anyone wants to think, I think they genuinely care about each other and support each other.
