Hi all,
So clearly , I'm doing a good job of avoiding studying by being on this forum and posting 😉 .. but everyone here is so awesome that what can I say ...
So this post is just a personal story I wanted to share, about what really attracts me to this show and why I'm so glad I found it when I did..

Not too long ago in high school, I had to do a project in my Global Studies class on a current world issue.
I live abroad, but I still like to keep in touch with my Indian roots, so to say, as much as I can, whether by watching these shows and teaching myself Hindi, or reading the news. So I decided to do my project on Child Brides and Child Widows, because I knew that this was an issue in India and I hypothesized that it probably existed elsewhere as well.
When I submitted by project proposal to my teacher, I was shocked by her response. She asked me what Child Brides and Child Widows were. She had no idea this was something impacting millions of girls around the world today, and that no one had ever done a project on this topic in her class in all her years of teaching. That shocked me more than anything. When I presented my research to the class, no one had ever heard of child brides or child widows before.
My presentation was supposed to be thirty powerpoint slides and twenty five minutes. It ended up being sixty slides and fifty minutes.
Throughout all my time researching this topic, I became aware that girls face the obstacles of child marriage and the consequences that follow, in many different countries. Their futures, their health and their wellbeing are all impacted. I was aware that girls were widowed at young ages, but the extent to which this still exists today came as a huge surprise to me, and reminded me once again of how lucky I am to have the opportunities that I do

But this fact saddened me even more, that there are millions of girls out there, like Dhaani, who not only feel like they are invisible to the world around them and have no voice, but who are seldom noticed by the rest of the world, who are deaf and blind to their situation. My teacher has not heard of them, the students around me had not heard of them. If I had not researched this project, I would probably not have heard of them as much either.
That's where media comes in. I am so grateful to Colors for breaking the silence on widows and attempting to use the positive power of media by talking about an issue that has been ignored for too long.
I am so hopeful that this show can actually make a difference by teaching and enlightening others on the struggles of women who are forced to live like ghosts in this world.
Sorry that this was so long.. it was just a personal thought I had, because I have been passionate about this issue ever since I did research on it and gave that presentation- and I am so happy to see the media talking about it in this way :)
Happy Sunday everyone :)

hey pj, i actually loved ur post yaar! it is really good to know that u were able to create an awareness abt this topic, to some who were totally oblivious of these practices. and i hope these kind of stereotypical practises and thinking get abolished totally so that the sufferings of those women end.
and i am also crazy abt this show because of VIDHA and vips rgt now!! 😳😳 and i would like to know how they will handle this issue in the show!!
