Not too long ago in high school, I had to do a project in my Global Studies class on a current world issue.
I live abroad, but I still like to keep in touch with my Indian roots, so to say, as much as I can, whether by watching these shows and teaching myself Hindi, or reading the news. So I decided to do my project on Child Brides and Child Widows, because I knew that this was an issue in India and I hypothesized that it probably existed elsewhere as well.
kudos to u for this 👏...among the so many options available, u opted for the one troubling ur sole country and this is much appreciable 👏...
When I submitted by project proposal to my teacher, I was shocked by her response. She asked me what Child Brides and Child Widows were. She had no idea this was something impacting millions of girls around the world today, and that no one had ever done a project on this topic in her class in all her years of teaching. That shocked me more than anything. When I presented my research to the class, no one had ever heard of child brides or child widows before.
My presentation was supposed to be thirty powerpoint slides and twenty five minutes. It ended up being sixty slides and fifty minutes.
i too have come across such things many a times 😳...my personal experience, i have made lot of friends here, to many of which, i am now in contact by mobile...many of them live abroad...when i am thinking of some issue, and talk out with them, most of the times they are like what 😲..something like this exist?...and i only realise where our country is lagging behind ...
Throughout all my time researching this topic, I became aware that girls face the obstacles of child marriage and the consequences that follow, in many different countries. Their futures, their health and their wellbeing are all impacted. I was aware that girls were widowed at young ages, but the extent to which this still exists today came as a huge surprise to me, and reminded me once again of how lucky I am to have the opportunities that I do
exactly yar...for many of us what is being shown in the show may look filmy or over hyped but this is a bitter reality of which we are not aware standing in a safer environment...we are blessed enough, can't be more thankful to god, that we are safe...my teacher always tell us that our first task in the morning should be thanking god for giving us whatever we have as many are not having that either rather than complaining, why i am fat, shy, dumb etc etc...But this fact saddened me even more, that there are millions of girls out there, like Dhaani, who not only feel like they are invisible to the world around them and have no voice, but who are seldom noticed by the rest of the world, who are deaf and blind to their situation. My teacher has not heard of them, the students around me had not heard of them. If I had not researched this project, I would probably not have heard of them as much either.
That's where media comes in. I am so grateful to Colors for breaking the silence on widows and attempting to use the positive power of media by talking about an issue that has been ignored for too long.
i also appreciate colors for their superb concepts 👏...be it BV, uttaran, LTL, udaan, code red, Bani (sorry if i missed any) and now IKRS...league breaking shows allowing us to explore more of the world we are unaware of...getting a reality check...
I am so hopeful that this show can actually make a difference by teaching and enlightening others on the struggles of women who are forced to live like ghosts in this world.
Sorry that this was so long.. it was just a personal thought I had, because I have been passionate about this issue ever since I did research on it and gave that presentation- and I am so happy to see the media talking about it in this way :)
Happy Sunday everyone :)
bang on post dear..fabulous 👏..keep sharing ur more experiences like this..
