Mumbai: In an industry where all too much importance is placed on opening day (and weekend) collections, Nishikant Kamat's Drishyam' is quietly picking up momentum in its third week at the theatres " a development fuelled by the strong word-of-mouth feedback for the film. Multiplex chains in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata are increasing their screen count for the film following increased requests at the ticket counters.
Leading distributor Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines from Mumbai confirmed this development. He said, "Yes more screens are being allocated to Drishyam by the end of this week. The truth is that Drishyam picked up very late because Bajrangi and Bahubali were still going strong at that time Ajay's film released. Now both the movies are towards the end of their run and word of mouth has kept Drishyam alive in the theatres. Also, Brothers, that released this week, has fared average and its numbers on Monday had a big drop. This is only in multiplexes in the metro cities."
'Brothers' got a huge opening on Day One and its weekend collection is among the highest in 2015. However, it hasn't picked up much after the weekend, as opposed to what was expected.
Sanjay Ghai, a leading distributor for the Delhi/Punjab region added, "Ultimately good content has found appreciation. Initially, Drishyam suffered because of Bajrangi and Bahubali but eventually, it has got its due. Also, Brothers won't last for long and thatregoers will need to be given the option of a good film. All is Well is releasing this Friday but Abhishek Bachchan is not a crowd puller. I would say currently there are around 500 shows for Drishyam and by Friday, it will have 750-800 shows in major multiplexes. It's remarkable for a film which is in its third week."
About the films coming this Friday, distributor Hemant Shah said, "Yes, so far there is no excitement about the films that are releasing this Friday but I haven't checked on Drishyam yet." Raj Bansal, a multiplex owner in Jaipur, tweeted, "After a long weekend, Monday shows its effect at (the) Box Office." In another tweet, he wrote, "Major drop in Brothers' collection."
Drishyam grossed 6.25 crore nett in its third week taking its total to nearly 63 crore nett. The three week nett business till date is as follows.
Week One - 39,97,00,000
Week Two - 16,71,00,000
Week Three - 6,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 62,93,00,000
The third week figures are the fourth best of the year ahead of successful films like ABCD 2 and Gabbar Is Back but as opening week was low it has not fared as well as those films.

Drishyam grossed 3.25 crore nett apprx in its fourth week taking its business to close to 67 crore nett. The weekly business till date is as follows.
Week One - 39,97,00,000
Week Two - 16,71,00,000
Week Three - 6,96,00,000
Week Four - 3,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 66,89,00,000
The film has fared poorly outside Mumbai circuit where it may just about touch 30 crore nett but collections in North, East and South India are poor. The film will do a distributor share of 31 crore which is not much higher than what Action Jackson (30 cr) did last year. The only plus for the film is that it has not done as bad as Brothers thanks to the Maharashtra area. The film will finish with around 69 crore nett on a best case scenario.
