I will update this post but right now i am too busy hearing amanat's ghazal and classical songs repeatedly. I think he swept it clean today. I have no doubt that he is the best singer in this show and way above Raja and Aneek. Yes i really mean it. I admire both Raja and Aneek but Amanat is the real GAWAIYE here. He is the best. Simply the best.
I would really appreciate your comments here. I am so overwhelmed today that i would really like to have a long discussion on his musical nuances today. I will also request the mods if they can make this topic sticky as i strongly feel Amanat's performance today needs a special address.
Here is my update................
Believe me i have become so ecstatic watching him today that i feel like creating a thousand threads in his name. The way he sang 'Albela sajaan' deserves to be in the top 5 of saregama history. Just yesterday i was watching the old episodes of Parthiv Govil and Md. Vakil and felt that they were tremendous though Md Vakil might have difficulties in reaching out to many especially in a society where Himesh is the musical God. It feels so bad to see the current state of Indian music. It is not true that there are no talents now. There are probably more talents now in the industry than it was before due to the immense competition.
The energy is directed in the wrong direction. I am not a Himesh fan but will still acknowledge him to a good and not great composer. The disco culture is in and its not bad. If he is targeting that audience i am sure he will suceed. Again in songs like Apne and Main jahaan rahoon he has done a fairly good job. But the problem in the industry or society now is that even though we enjoy good music we don't bother to promote them. A 'kuch kuch hota hain' number or a 'bole churiyaan' performance is pleaded with 'once more'. Again there is no harm in that because those are catchy numbers. But just have a look at the audience today. How engrossed they were when the contestants were singing. That proves that we still have those listeners who admires good music more than some love antics.
To me music is meant both for your ears and mind. Thanks to all these Shefalis and Rakhis that it has started to be meant for your eyes and kudos to Himesh ji who has transcended it to another level. For some music can even reach their butts and legs. That is a completely different story altogether. I will definitely prefer to hear something like a 'Aashique banaya aapne' when i am semi intoxicated and want to let my foot loose. But please don't bring it to the saregamapa stage which has the reputation of bringing pure musical talents.
Now speaking of talents i need to mention that Amanat's performances today were just out of this world and the comments he got from Pt Jasraj and Jagjit Singh ji are enough to prove him that he is the best. When i watch saregama i sit with the intention of listening to some pure darama-free music that will glue me to the TV. That was missing since the last few episodes. The last memorable episode i can think of was the independance day special where all the participants focussed on their music and gave a damn towards the dancing audience and the episode was so beautiful.
I believe in one thing...
'It is the singer who should drive the audience'. Hence if you raise your hands and start jumping the audience will do the same and music will be sidelined. If you get involved with your music completely the audience will take a plunge into your music and that is the ambience is what we look for in Saregamapa.
If this post is read by any person who has some reach to the saregamapa directors or mentors i would earnestly request them to please ponder over this and try to make episodes more like this. Bring the maestros like the episodes of late nineties and you will see that how the scenario changes. Believe me there will be no love story, no sasur ji, no triangles, no maa ki roti but just music in its purest form and that's what we are cribbing for.
