We got an opportunity to sit in on jodi no. 9 – Kiran and Ritu Janjani's practice session as they prepared for the second round. This week's theme is Fusion – a mixture of Indian and Western. Kiran and Ritu's rehearsal was full of laughter and confusion as their choreographer Sownya tried to get the couple to learn their steps.
Kiran and Ritu were rehearsing at Nirvana. Initially the duo spent time discussing the articles and reviews on Nach Baliye in the newspapers before they began their practice. Speaking about the controversies in the papers the couple said the two had often been sidelined as they stayed away from controversies and they had nothing to hide.
"Since we are already married there isn't much that can be written to create any controversy around us. But we would rather have it like that then have a negative image," says the straightforward couple.
As the couple begin practicing it leads to a lot of confusion. And as usual Kiran is trying to convince their choreographer to listen to his suggestions. He asked Sownya to introduce a flying kick knowing well enough that Ritu isn't a very strong dancer. On hearing his suggestion Rit said, "I know Kiran loves flying kicks a lot and if you get a chance to kiss girl then you are going to get used to them a lot!"
Kiran kept stopping his rehearsals to answer calls and Ritu was left practicing all alone on more than one occasion. At one point in the sequence Ritu was expected to kiss her hubby Kiran but she flatly refused saying that he was sweating too much for her to touch him.
"Main uski khoon pasine ki kamai kha sakti hoon lekin uske pasine wale chehre pe kiss nahi kar sakti!" And had everyone in splits!
However, fun aside the couple also had their own set of frustrations as Ritu was finding it difficult to pick up one particular steps. Despite having practiced it she just couldn't get the hang of it and kept stopping in between. The choreographer decided to call it a day at that point…Here's hoping she doesn't mess it up at the actual performance!
